Buddy was the greatest drummer the world ever saw. He is gone 36 years now and here we are still watching this guy and getting blown away by his incredible technique and natural talent. I think that speaks volumes right there.

I was just as fortunate to see him and to meet him twice, once at Ronnie Scott's, then at Cheltenham Townhall, at Ronnie's I was privileged to shake hands with him and to have been given two sets of his drumsticks, what more could someone want when meeting your Hero and having his sticks. I will never forget that night at Ronnie's. Sadly missed the Master, RIP.

I like to correct the years above , it was April 1967 till 1973 , 67 was his first British tour when most of the sparse audience was made up of Britain's best drummers , Buddy produced an unbelievable 15 minute drum solo on 'West Side Story'. Istill have al lthe programmes from those concerts.

Buddy used a 16 & 18 floor tom. He changed drum makers a few times. Sometimes even keeping snares from one maker and blending them with his new sponsor. And remember as early as 1959, Buddy had his first heart attack. So yes he sweat a lot when he played. He played a concert then went to the ER having a heart attack in 1982. While recovering from yet another heart attack in 1983, Rich was presented with a 1940s-vintage Slingerland Radio King set, refurbished by Joe MacSweeney of Eames Drums, which he used until his death in 1987. Got to meet him once in Enid, OK circa 1979.

No. Not Jackie Cooper! It was Jackie Coogan, also known as Uncle Fester in the Addams Family TV show back in the day. He appeared with the likes of Charlie Chaplin in "The Kid", among many other films as a child. Jackie cooper was, as you said in Our Gang/The Little Rascals, who also played in the movie, "Superman", as Perry White. And, oh, that guy who played the drums, was non other than, just kidding!!!!!

Saw his band many times. West coast. It always was such a tight show with a super star at the helm. He would riff on the HH and then call the chart #. The band would scuffle through pages and he would bring 'em in. It was so awesome! His right foot was very busy. A blurr. I would be in shock on the drive home. I have an Identical set to his last. Mine has a 24 bass instead of his 26. Incredible drums. GOAT for sure.
