      I've had a goldfish for about 3 years. For 3 years it's been living in a 1 gallon tank with no lighting. I just recently moved it into a new 6.5 gallon tank with LED lights. Do you think the goldfish should be stressed out by the new lights?

      Fun video, but I have kept planted tanks for 30 years, you have not... Kelvin and par is important. One example, blue gets you algae! Ask me, anyone. I have spent tooo much time and tried almost every light out there. Tell me about your setup, and I CAN tell you what is best, or what is the cheap best, but will still work. 😀

      Couldn't agree more! The Fluval App is amazing and I like the sunset and sunrise feature to provide a more natural setting for the fish as opposed to the lights just coming on and off! 11:05 - I LOVE that Fluval-app. All my tanks are live-planted, two-dirted, and all have lights costing between $100 & $300. I HATE two of those lights (Current Serene Sun) & am looking to replace them, one of the reasons is they’re so hard to program, the other because they flicker and at only a year old, don’t seem as good as they originally were. I’m Looking at your Luma & Aquarium Co-Op’s light…but neither have that app.
    So sorry, but if I’m going to shell-out another $300+ to replace my largest tank’s light, it’s going to have a stinkin’ app😅. In your next, rebranded-light, can you re-think the app. I’d totally buy it!

    SO agree about lighting being subjective! The most extreme example I can think of is the lighting on saltwater tanks. I ABHOR the blue lights most often used on saltwater tanks. It looks nasty to my eye, makes all the colors funky, no matter how nicely laid out the tank is. I've only seen a couple of tanks (thankfully, nicely laid out) actually use full spectrum lights, but I LOVED them! The colors were so great!
    When I finally got back into aquariums, I wanted planted tanks, but I had a 29g kit from Petsmart. You know the one. It has a very dim light built into the hood. So I bought crypts they also sold. Those thing grew great in that very low, very narrow light. When I wanted more variety, yeah, I had to upgrade the lighting, but that base light worked great for the crypts.
    I have a variety of lights now, none of them expensive or high end. And I have all planted tanks, some heavily. I just buy the types of plants that work well with the types of lighting I have. People really need to stop overcomplicating this stuff. LOL

    • @AquariumAficionado
      @AquariumAficionado ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Always quarantine bro. I used to think it didn’t matter much with plants as long it didn’t have signs of pest snails and you gave it a wash
      But somehow I introduced hydra into my tank on some plants or hard scape and it’s everywhere now
      Easier to get rid of hydra by not letting it in to begin with
      Now it’ll likely be a few months before I can have snails again as the hydra treatment kills snails for months on end even after multiple water changes
      The treatments lingers in silicone/hard scape. Just a mess. Do yourself the favor

      Have you tried house plants yet? I personally am NO green thumb and not ready for the financial add on of plants (even though that alone could cause major lecture, lol) i decided to try adding spider plants to the top of 2 tanks saying if they live I'll be happy. 3 rooted parts have been doing great with no maintenance on my end other than a little pruning and rinsing the roots now and then. Less daunting for me and no coast as we already have a big spider plant as does my mom.

      I only use flourish excel, flourish advance, and flourish trace. That’s all you need bro
      Excel(co2) everyday; work your way up to 1.5-2.5x recommended dose to prevent blackbeard algae and stay consistent or you’ll get algae blooms. Advance on Monday Wednesday Friday Sunday and Trace on Tuesday Saturday.

      Also pothos is the best
      Will pull out more “toxins” than any 1 submerged plant ever could
      The secret to get it really anchored in the water is to let it grow across the surface of the water that way it sends roots into the water the whole way across. More roots=more growth=cleaner water/bigger leaves👍

    I've had one or another aquarium set up since I was ten, so over 50 years. I've always liked tanks that look like you walked up to river or lake, sliced a chunk out and wrapped it in glass. Lighting had always been an issue. Starting off with incandescence that in order to grow plants you practically had to boil the tank, they were "hot hot hot". Then florescence came along, but was still a while before you could get $$$ grow bulbs. Then I discovered reef tanks and VHO lighting. But ballast $$, bulbs $$$X, and electric$$. Now we got energy efficient LEDs; lowering $$ in many ways.
    And now fully programmable lighting, dawn to dusk with color shift. But I'm still suffering from the same issue, I B POE. I have a 40gal tall I want to set up as a reef face tank, with LEDs today the lighting isn't cheap, but cheaper in many ways then the old reef/planted aquarium lighting.

      Too much light can stress some fish, which prefer lower lighting. Floating plants can alleviate that, if you don't have a light that can be dimmed. Also, there's a great video about how blue lights people use on aquariums at night not only create algae issues but cause health issues in many (all?) fish over time. It affects their hormone levels and such. Really interesting info when I saw it. If you want the link, holler. I'll find and post it.

    I hope you realize that a lot of people do like app controlled lights. Setting a scheldule without having to muck around with idiotic and unreliable timers is amazing. Fine tuning the color balance of the light to suit your preferences and needs is also great. You made a whole speech about the reds being redder etc.. Yeah. You can do that with Fluval's 3.0. You can do that with chihiros and their app. You're unwilling to use an app to unlock the potential of your light, but somehow a button with many preset modes is great..?
    By the way; Is the light and all it's components made in the USA? Or is it just assembled in the USA? There is a huge difference. I'm willing to bet money the light is actually just assembled using chinese parts.

    My main two items. How it looks and timers. I like the set it and forget it. The Hygger lights have a simple timer and no app.

    Yo, you going to offer these lights on your site in the larger sizes soon? I'm moving in a few weeks, and I've just been given permission to have the basement... the whole basement. Going to need some serious lightning!

    The fluval light has interesting weather effects that really add to a natural feeling of a tank. Nothing beneficial to the fish but I rely on the app for automatic timers and schedules.

    I was literally just wondering about lighting and plants today... i love keeping fish and I need my tanks to look natural... and that means plants and more plants but... im also scarce on money... so I'm just collecting wild native plants from nearby creeks and ponds... but are there any easy plants you could point me towards that aren't just green... lol?

    Not a fan of the purple hue. Maybe I’d run them when we are not in the room if it helps the plants grow better but white light looks better in my rooms setting.

    I just give him light when I'm around on so I can watch it but I leave my window shade open the so they have some kind of light I'm not going to waste electricity on fish

    Ok, totally off topic, but can anyone tell me what that wood is in the background of the cichlid tank in the beginning? It doesn't look like the driftwood I usually see in these vids and I really like it. Looks like a branch fell off a tree into a river! Beautiful!

    When it comes to planted tank lighting, Asians are a step ahead, I have no doubt that these lights will grow plants but the pinkish hue will steer a lot of people away (I've tried grow lights from GE, didn't like them) they gave my plants a very artificial look, and your are saying that these lights are not cheap up front, anyways I guess it's great news for people that like how they make the plants look, and are willing to pay the price, if I could afford an expensive light system I would probably go with ADA or Chihiros but that's just me.

  • @leedibiasio9229
    @leedibiasio9229 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wonder how these compare to the Chihiros lights. They certainly seem more affordable

      I have not tried them, people talk good about the light, but the app seems to be bad and it require an account and app updates on appstore is only in chineese
