- A short relaxing edit of some footage I shot at Lake Geneva/ Lac Leman during a super brief visit to Switzerland to give a talk to the Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne. This is a truly stunning area I wish I had more than a couple of hours one evening and the next morning to capture it. I most definitely have conquered my fear of flying over water!

I feel i need to state the obvious. The natural sound is not real of course. All done in post from sound effects sourced online. Hard to get good sound when the drone goes bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I love the way you use sound in your videos. Most people would be content with the music alone, but the subtle foley really adds a whole lot of atmosphere. Great video!

What is the reason for the jerky boat movement around 0:15 ? Shutter angle?
And the water on the left around 2:00? TH-cam compression?

The flection at 2:00 will be over exposure, water is very tricky to film particularly shooting straight down, as for the boat i'd guess changing FPS in post possibly or too low FPS when shot, it could have been avoided by using ND filters to decrease shutter speed causing motion blur.
@@Paul01 I would love to understand why the water on the left is so smeary and shaky. I don´t mean the overexposure on the right. Thanks.
@@elvagabundovatti i believe that's probably an issue with shutter speed or from change the framerate in production, both can cause this issue.
@@Paul01 Hmmm. Might be. But somehow i believe, that Philip B is setting always the same shutter speed. And i see this issue very often in moving structures like water. It´s weird.

Very relaxed soundtrack. I love the tonality of the video, especially the red and teal tint in a lot of the boat/see and the city behind the lake shots. Always looking forward to your videos, very inspiring stuff. Especially after the NAB vlogs, where it shows that it's not just me struggling with gathering "strangers'" trust when filming in public. That keeps me back the most when doing what I love.
This put me in a state of meditation and inner silence. superb!!

Really? I thought it was amazing for the scenes which had mainly water in, but theres something not right for me with the town scenes. It just feels so heavy. hard to explain!
Almost brought me to tears, it was so beautiful! The sounds are what does it. The foley sound of the water and the rowing. As a drone pilot myself, I know you all you hear in camera is loud buzzing, but replacing those sounds so perfectly works so well. You also have a huge talent for pacing and music choices. Philip, I always love your work. Your story of rising from news cameraman to being recognized as talented DP you are is a journey I hope to one day accomplish myself. Cheers to your talent, my friend!

Just beautiful and so relaxing. Also, something about the directly overhead shot of the rower and the sun's reflection really makes me feel very aware of the relationship between the Earth and the Sun.

I see some artefacts when watching on my 4k ultrawide LG display. Maybe TH-cam compression? Although doubt it because other 4k videos e.g. RED camera look pristine.

I didn't dislike it, but it could be drone overload - I've noticed a lot of dislikes on drone style videos - unless their is a solid hook and some guts to a story.

Chribit Its a mystery to us all, what is even stranger is camera reviews, if it says Sony A7s Review and then all the dislikes and comments saying effectively 'Canon / Nikon til I die dude, Sony sucks.' Some people are just weird, some people are broken, some people are awesome - I aim for awesome but most of the time settle for weird :)

The choice of including the noise of the rowing was such an awesome touch. Also, that UHD downscaling makes me just hnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng!
Really cool video.
The "noise of the rowing" was just part if the song. You'd need to record sounds far away from or when the drone is on the ground otherwise you'd only hear something similar to a swarm of bees.
Sam Caldwell I know it wasn't captured by the drone. I was thinking it was a stock sound effect added in post most likely. Its inclusion was a great touch regardless.
As for it being part of the song, I doubt that's the case. It would be really odd to have the instrumental music mixed with rowing noises that synced perfectly with this video.

yep that was not part of the song. foley! all done in post with sounds sources online. the rowing is in sync...hard to find a track that had that!

looks ok , I flew camera for the movie Dark Highlands using a p3 and it's camera . surprising what you can achieve with "standard" equipment ... back on doing the opening credits next month would love a Matice for that .

Just one tiny note (and it could be my monitor or TH-cam compression) to me there is some strange moire effect in the water on the bottom 3rd of the image at 25'' in: its less when I turn the quality up to 4k, but still there. Any explanation?

Phil, another wonderful effort of artistry with images and sound. I think you do it as well as anyone does it--an inspiration for us all.
After seeing this I want a drone. No! After seeing this I want to BE a drone.
I really like how this was put together with all the elements. The grade and music really complimented each other in my opinion as well as the footage from the drone. I also enjoyed how there was little to no panning of the camera on the drone. I like simple camera movements. :) Best as usual!

How do you get audio from that boat? Was it added in later? Because I'm pretty sure the copter isn't good enough to pick up decent audio, especially at that distance.

How did you manage to remove the drone sound and leave everything else? Sorry if that's a stupid question, I'm only curious because every drone footage I see has that annoying humming...
No sound is recorded with newer DJI drones. All sound is fake here doe in post

I'm wondering is there any sharpening done? Especially in the first few scenes. Or is it what comes out of the camera?
i don't think so. He likes to set sharpness on the Phantom 4 to -2 or -1 I think
