  • During operation after having mixed 28 bags of cement pinion shaft/pulley/bowl gear came apart causing internal damage to the pinion shaft as well his loss of The flat key for the bowl pulley as well as the bowl gear. The bowl gear is attached to the pinion shaft via a hex bolt and washer, from the factory it was not Torqued tightly enough to remain fastened and seated. The gear hex bolt which was torqued from the factory came loose, allowing the bowl gear to slide off of the pinion, allowing the pinion to come loose causing the pulley to become detached resulting in massive failure. Resulting damage includes marring of the pinion side of the pulley as well as pulley side of the pinion as well as loss of two flat keys as well as damage to the pinion on the pulley side as well as damage to the plastic cover on the gear side as well as multiple abrasions to the bowl from misalignment.

I just assembled mine and will be taking it apart to check the pulleys. The instructions suck, if it wasn't for some good videos it would have been a nightmare putting it together. Thanks for taking the time to give users a heads up.

I used heat treated lock washers and bolts with blue lock tight..did not make a clearance problem for me but if it does adjust to make clearance by using a Torx Head bolt..Torque to specs..four years running and no problems..for those with motor issues..do the maintenance..blow the dust out of the motor from time to time..if the motor has sealed bearings replace or if you tinker like me..re-grease them..for bushing motors..Take supporting ends off motor ..drill holes on both supports(if lube holes aren't already there)..lube the motor shaft ends..tap the drilled holes and fit with choice of hex screws/rubber inserts/zerk fittings...reassemble supports..then you can lube bushings whenever you can..you can do a sealed bearing the same way but some skill and patient is required to perform that task..I'm retired so time is not that big of a deal for me to do extras!!..Good luck..this is not a bad mixer..just the people that engineered it for low cost and productivity is what gave it it's faults..

I used a cut nail or two. They got lost too but the last two have lasted a pallet of 80lbs bags of quikrete so far and a few mixes of my own sand, stone, cement, and lime.

Seems to be a common failure point on these mixers. I'm about to assemble mine for the 1st time and plan on using thread locker on both. Well on every bolt for that matter. Thanks for the heads up!

I haven't had that problem with mine but it has been laying covered in the yard for over a year with no use. I tried mixing some mortar this week and the motor could not turn the drum when it had the mix in it. Stupid me I forgot that it runs with a belt and pulley and the belt is probably stretched out and possibly rotted from sitting unused. I will check it and replace the belt if needed. The bolt that holds the drum on the swing arm came loose and I had a hard time getting it to stay. it came with a lock washer which I think caused it to turn itself loose when spinning. I put a lot of loctite on the bolt and did without the washer. I also took the washer from the drum side off because it was keeping the runners on the drum too far from the spindle and it kept jumping the gears on the drum. That little bit of space got the spindle gears to go deeper in the runners and it doesn't skip some now. I am planning on taking it apart and putting loctite on the bolts that hold the spindle and pulley. I am also thinking if possible of putting grease fittings on the bottom of the drum where it spins and on the part where the spindle is. The metal might be too thin to be able to put grease fittings but I will look into it. Has anyone added grease fitting to this mixer?

Adding a grease fitting seems like a great idea. Did you ever get a chance to do it?

@@zjedinite I'm afraid not. I got lazy and too much stuff going on around the house. I will try and do it before end of the year.

No big deal, easy fix. retread, or weld it back on.

Thanks for making the video, gonna address that issue when putting it together as I just Picked one up.
Does anyone know what should the bolts be torqued to?
I also believe you could get replacement keys, the part number should be on your manual, from what I’ve heard. I haven’t open my box yet lol.
    Hope you got it fixed!

The key is a 5 mm by 5 mm by 12 mm. I had the same exact issue. I bought some 3/16 square steel stock and cut a 12 mm ish section off. Then I added an additional lock washer. I think that when they assemble it, they don't have anything to stop the shaft from spinning, which is why they can't get the bolt tight. Message me if you want I can make you a key and mail it to you.

I called the 888 number and they don’t have a replacement part for the key. Lost the key so now have a huge orange thing. I’ll pay you to make me a key.

I had assembled mine backwards. The motor and pulley wheel is on the wrong side. Any idea how I can remove the pulley wheel ? I tried it last night but could not get it to release.

Would you recommend this product? I'm looking at buying one, but also am looking at the kobolt mixer which is more money.
