Brotha, a month ago i would have paid you for that used fluid. I picked up 2008 dodge grand caravan for $300.00 last month. It never had any TLC and she was hurting! 208,335 miles and she got her first tranny fluid change. It was the blackest, stinkiest, nastiest, fluid I've ever seen come out of a transmission but the magnet had about the same metal as yours, a little more. When the pan first let loose it did a whosssshhh thing and spit about 2 quarts in the drive. Pressure wash, Dawn, Scrubbing Bubbles, The Rain, Cat litter, oil dry, Carpet Fresh, all over a month ago and it still smells when i walk outside. It was worth it, shift better, no slips, and much quieter. I blame the neglect on not having a stick. Keep making the videos, drive safe!
That is an AWESOME success story! My trans is like new since I changed the fluid. So impressive to hear yours responded so well to the fluid change :) Thanks man! Drive safe yourself!
Thank you, Im just about to change the trans fluid and filter in my 2014 for the first time. This was very informative. The only thing Im doing different is changing the tranny oil pan to one that has a drain plug so I can drain and refill it in the future. My understanding is that when you only drain the pan itself you are leaving a lot of potentially contaminated fluid still inside the trans, so with a drain plug I can drain it more often without removing the pan and doing the filter.
Awesome 😎 It makes things a lot cleaner! And you’re right there is a lot of fluid left behind. About 50% in the torque converter alone. So the next time you change it you need to replace the filter again cuz it gets filled with metal shavings and clutch material which kills your line pressure and causes shifting problems. That’s why there isn’t a drain plug in trans pans. Cuz you have to drop the pan anyway for each fluid change so you can replace that filter.
People need to be aware if someone pays for a power flush of all of the fluid it could lead to slippage. I like dropping the pan and cleaning all of the gray matter.
I've changed the fluid/filter twice, every 60 thou miles in my '12 grand caravan. Runs like silk. The 'lifetime fill' fluid is good for the lifetime of the transmission 😂
I recently got a 2009 Grand Caravan, 105K odo. Getting used to the ins and outs of this model. Had an oil change, and am going for transmission fluid change. Color of fluid is fine, but I guess I'll do it anyway as I don't know the usage history of van. This vid is great, gives me a whole bunch of embedded knowledge tips.
I had my filter and fluid changed a while back from a shop but i later found out they dont use ATF+4 so i did my own change this time a couple days ago and it went great thanks to videos like these to learn from. I also used the appcar diagfca app and did a tooth counter and vlp reset and transmission quick learn procedure and its running great! The fluid that came out was not this red but now she's happy again lol
I've done the same job on cars I've owned using the silicone gasket material like you did and never had any problems. However, my dad always said he didn't like the silicone as he was worried squeeze out inside the transmission would eventually break off and get into the system.
I think that it's just as likely that a chunk of gasket could break off into the transmission. Besides, nothing can get into the transmission unless it can make it through the filter :D We're safe!!
@@voygerr19 I will probably have this done in the shop, I don't think the mechanics have time to do that 24hr wait period, and I am guessing they will use a solid gasket.
I have a 2003 and 2013 dodge grand caravan and replaced the transmission pan with one with a drain plug on both of them. So every time I do an oil change, I also change out the transmission oil. You won't get everything, but over time the old is being swapped out for new oil and after several times (5-6) your transmission oil will only have old oil in the single digit percentage range. Once the percentage of new transmission oil is over 90%, you can change it at every other engine oil change. I have done this method on my 24 year old Honda Odyssey and the transmission runs like a top.
I do understand why you would so that. 50% of the old fluid is still in the tc. I would still change the filter at least on the second pan dump. When it gets filled with clutch material and metal it becomes less efficient and can lower your line pressure. That’s just me 👍 I’m glad it’s working for you.
@@sstressfl I was not clear. My bad. What I did (for my odyssey) was drain the tf then added the same amount back. At the same time added a WIX inline TF filter. (The OEM TF is buried deep in the transmission, and short of tearing it down, you can't get to it). Drive for about 50 to 100 miles. Drain again, refill, drive. Repeated this about 5 times. After 5 times of doing this, the TF fluid was bright cherry red. I replaced the wix filter, and now only need to change the TF at every oil change or every other. I noticed on the odyssey, the rpms have dropped about 200 after doing this. I am in the process of doing this process with my caravans. They are on their 2nd cycle of drain, refill, drive a bit cycle., and yes when it is done replace the filter.
I had our (2015 Town and Country) transmission stop working on a recent road trip. Was told the transmission was bad 7 hrs from home. Pulled it home on a tow dolly, changed the fluid and the filter and its been working just fine since. First change since we've owned it, at ~150k and we bought it at 65k. It appeared to have been opened once before but I don't know when. Looking in the bottom of the filter, it looked pretty clogged.
@@sstressfl for sure. And if I didn't have the check engine light on for a bad thermostat I would have had the check engine light come on for the low line pressure. Found that code later when I replaced the thermostat and clearing the codes.
Those 62te transmissions like to leak. ours went out at 150k miles. Had the dealer install a Chrysler re man. 100,000 mile warranty. Had a few issues after. Dealer screw ups. But so far so good. pulled 4500 lbs 980 miles with no issues. Roll on 160k
We’re at about 120k and still rollin. No leaks! The minor one I had was from hose clamps that loosened up on my trans cooler. All good now. Smooth as can be. We just went to Florida and back, 2800 mile round trip. This van has impressed me. Glad yours is still rollin 💪
So I completed this job on Thursday. Odd thing is, you say, or by oem standards, after dropping that fluid; 5.5 qts are supposed to be put in. But I collected almost 7qts of nice red (purple glow) AFT+ fluid into my oil pan. Don't see how 5qts will do. I had let that RTV gasket dry, and today I decided to replace the cooler lines before adding the fluid. I didn't drive the van anywhere bcuz I was sore all over. I did add 5.5qts, it moved forward and reverse, but stick did not show much, just the tip. Tomorrow after Church service, I'll check level again, and perhaps buy another 2 qts and add if it needs it.
I had to top mine off afterward until the dipstick showed the correct level at the correct temp. It I didn’t use 7! Other people I have communicated with used about 5.5. But again, go by that dipstick 👍
@sstressfl Yes, I sent in the first 4.5 qts.. then after a good drive, I checked it, it was low in looking like it needed another qt/, so I added 1.5, and ran it again, but this time it was over limit. So I ordered a siphon removed the over fill. Then after another good hot run, she was perfect. Thanks for your input.
🙏🙏🙏 If it was mine, I'd go for it. I just put third set of shocks on ours (150k now) and suprised (shocked?) how smoooooth it still is. And I get 20-25 mpgs with it! I wish they didnt stop making the GC. Praying for your success with the transmission!
If I am not mistaken the transmission fluid service interval is 120k miles. I hand the fluid changed in my 2011 VW Routan (same vehicle) at 130k. So far at 165k, no issues.
You are correct. But if you tow, the recommendation is 60k. I started towing 4 years ago-ish so I'm sure I should have done it sooner but it seems to be a-ok!
Sometimes, the "Transmission Fluid" leak could be from the oil cooler housing, especially from the Pentastar engine. There are other videos on how to change the oil cooler housing as well as an aluminum oil cooler housing (OE Fix) from Dorman.
Did you have transmission issues after changing the fluid? I was told not to change mine and get rid of the van. Mine seems to stutter a little when going in reverse. I was hoping new fluid will help but they said it could cause the transmission to degrade faster? I am at 120,000. I dont think it's ever been changes
Mine has been perfect. The manufacturers fluid and filter change recommendation for "normal" driving is 120,000 miles. Change it! :) I used to think the same thing at such high mileage but my fluid came out red and healthy looking. The new synthetics are not like the old transmission fluid of yesteryear. But be prepared that a fluid change is not a fix if your trans is already broken. But most of the time that stutter is due to dirty fluid/blocked fluid filter which reduces line pressure. Praying for your success whatever you decide :)
Hi, thank you VERY NICE VIDEO !!! I have a Caravan 2012... and i want also to change my oil transmission... DO YOU KNOW if i can alson take my phone to check up oil temp ... if yes what is that you use to connect it to the car ? BIG THANKS from Canada !! P.S i considering changing cooling pipe... but not shure... My garage changing the cover transmission and just add 5 liter of oil after that... he doesn' t recommend me to change the filter right now... just run a little bit with that and make a big oil change in few months ( maybe 6 months...). For what i know, for now it is a little bit overfill, but he doesn't care because we will change it in fews months... ✌✌
Hey man! For the phone, you need a Bluetooth OBD 2 Scanner. They sell many of them on amazon. Like this one amzn.to/3TSkgFC and then you need to buy and download an app to your phone. I use this one OBD Fusion www.obdsoftware.net/software/obdfusion and then you need to add a PID (some code that you add to the app so it can report trans temp). I got the PID from this forum chat: www.chryslerminivan.net/threads/trans-temp-w-obd-fusion-app-and-obd2-dongle.160906/ Transmission stuff is always a little like myth busters. No one is actually sure what is true. Your mechanic is being careful, afraid that he could cause your old transmisison to start shifting funny.
Are you just using the oil dipstick to check the level? Does it go all he way in like the oil tube, or do you go until the tip hits the bottom of the trans pan?
Just until it touches the bottom of the pan. You can see how I marked up the oil dipstick on the opposite side with measurments for the trans. th-cam.com/video/M6pWgxTBDmc/w-d-xo.html
Just an FYI, the dip stick doesn't go to bottom of the pan. There is a stop bracket installed in the trans about an inch or so just below where the tube goes into the trans, so even if there is very little or no read on the stick, there is still probably 2-3 inches of fluid in the pan. Just don't force it or it could slip past the stop bracket and give you a false reading.
Hey Michael! So, it's been 9 months since the change, how many miles have you driven and how's the shifting? I've got 120k on mine and am hesitant but you inspire me. Be well!
I dont know how I missed your comment! Sorry so late :) The van now has 115k miles and its smooth smooth smooth and very quiet. I couldnt be happier. Also, the leak was an easy fix!! Turned out to be the hose clamps I used when I installed the trans cooler loosened up. I tightened them. No more leak :D
@@rayray2613 For towing :) made a huge difference. Here’s the vid Install & Results | Transmission Cooler 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan th-cam.com/video/9m3Bdovn1tk/w-d-xo.html
You said it! The idea is to change the fluid before it’s burnt. If it’s burnt, you’ve got problems. In regards to the dipstick, there is a simple work around. Did you watch the video?
We are looking to tow with our 2016 T&C If you don't mind what size trailer are you towing? Do you have any recommendations besides Self Leveling shocks / Brake controller / Weight Distribution Hitch ?
Our trailer is 2400 lbs dry (big popup). Fully loaded we are definitely maxed out :) I added a trans cooler and it made a huge difference in the hills. I’m adding a small manually operated fan to the cooler this spring for slow mountain climbs. Other than that, prayer 🙏🤗 I hope that’s helpful! We are so looking forward to camping this season. Enjoy!!
@@sstressfl Were looking at a camper thats 2840 Dry. but I dont think we will fill out 700lbs in additional gear. and I plan to remove the 3rd row seats and the fresh water tank from the camper to cut weight.
@@t1design796 it’s going to be close to your max! Oh one more thing, I need new tires this spring and I plan to buy the highest load rating I can find. That will give me more towing stability and security 👍 Have fun 😁
Hey Michael. I have the same '15 Grand Caravan and I'm from Ontario Canada. I'm moving across the country to NB in 2 weeks, approx. 1500km, and I'll be towing a single axle enclosed trailer that will weigh around 3000lbs. I have it weighted to 60F/40R as best I can, and I installed the Air Lift 1000 bags as per your other videos (they are excellent!). I do not have the fancy weight distributing hitch. I gave it a good 1 hour tow test and all seemed well. What suggestions or advice would you have for first-time towing a good distance? My straight hitch is about 1" too low and my riser is about 1" too high, but otherwise I feel pretty comfortable.
That sounds pretty good expecially since you gave it a test. I think you'll be fine. Of the top of my head.... if the trailer sticks is tall, you'll find the wind can really make it harder on the van. If that's the case, be prepared to move a little slower than expected. When towing the popup camper, the only time I was really worried was in the steepest mountain passes. Long steep rises for many miles create a LOT of transmission heat and if you're forced to move slow (25-35 mph) you have less air for cooling. I installed a trans cooler and I have a small aux fan I'm going to install on the trans cooler for those slow climbs. That made a HUGE difference! And regarding the nose height of the trailer, as you know, level is best! It can get squirrely when it's angled. And nose down can increase tongue weight quick. But if you drove it and it felt good, then you should be ok. :) Praying for your safe travels!
I pull scrap metal with mine . When i roll across the scale at the scrap yard with my trailer and van full my vehicle wieght is over 10000 pounds and it drives very well for that much wieght, and my trailer is a custom single axle with no brakes no problem. The trailer goes on my van spring summer and fall. And gets put away for the winter. I dont do much maintenance. I blew a trans at just over 100000 km and i put a used one in with 360000 km on it ive put over 40000 on the used trans so its over 400000km on the trans and pulls fine lol
HA! Me too my friend. Me too. Trans was making noise (now I know due to the leak, slightly low fluid level). I did not want to let it go any longer so I had to make it a priority.
Uhhhg the '08 was always in the garage... or worse.. emergecny repairs in the driveway in the dead of winter. We really liked it when it was running but the brakes were tiny compared to the 2015s brakes and seemed to fail often. Locked up calipers. Warped rotors. Failed struts. Shocks. Growing rust issues. I changed the sway bar bushings but the bolts broke off inside the frame due to massive rust. I ended up welding the sway bar brackets to the frame to hold them down. It worked! But it seemed like that van never stopped breaking. Engine and trans were solid though! No interior issues. Our kids missed it when it left the family. But they have grown attached to our 2016 with 130,000 miles on the odometer :) Lots of family trips!
Pretty cool right? I listed them in the video description. - OBD2 Scanner amzn.to/3lvAPER - App is called OBD Fusion - I used a custom PID for the trans temp that I stole from this site, post #20: www.chryslerminivan.net/threads/trans-temp-w-obd-fusion-app-and-obd2-dongle.160906/
Awesome job my friend,, I am also starring at this job soon. I'm wondering if you noticed a power boost increase in take off..? This is how I was able to determine, that the filter needed replacement. I'd turn her on, and within about 45 -50 seconds I'd put it in D, and drive off and she would accelerate nicely. But after she was warm, the drag feeling came on. Its a drag or resistance feeling as if the parking brakes were slightly on, not much, but you could notice a drag. My 2015 Town and country has 87,K. Dealership told me fluid and filter would need replace at 100k, but I think that pushing it. It is a wise thing to watch out for clutch material (asbestos and metal) formation in bottom of pan. I am glad you didn't have a ton of it, and fluid wasn't close to coffee, otherwise tranny would have begun drive problems. Please tell us how she ran or is running. (PS) I am considering installing a small After Market Tranny cooler, that would help you better, if you tow. .Thank you and God bless.
I’m over 150k miles and it’s like new. And the rule is, if you change your fluid on a trans, you always change the filter. And before I changed mine it was making a light noise but shifting well and driving well. Also installed a trans cooler a long while ago. It worked beautifully. The noise I heard was from low fluid level. I discovered the leak was from a loose transmission cooler hose. Easy fix :) God bless you brother!
@sstressfl thanks,, mine is shifting well, and drivability is good too, but there's that slight resistance. And that began in about 75k. My fluid is still red and I forgot to mention, I also created that hack on the oil dip stick to check trannny fluid level. When I was under it last month doing motor oil change, I also noticed the two trans oil covers (pan and top rear pan) kinda sweaty with oil. No drip leaks on the floor, only that sweat on the metal. I wiped them down clean, but I didn't pursue it at that time. However, I do wonder from where that oil formation is coming from. I will have to do a pre-check under there, prior to the tranny filter/oil change. My only issue over here in NYS, is that it's been Super 🔥hot, the temps. So I am waiting for good steady 78° temps. I did want to ask, did the silicone gasket hold up good? The rubber gasket is available, but I'm curious as to why, Chrysler didn't use one in the first place. 🤔
@@MusicMinisterJP7 the dip stick hack works well! :) The oil on the pan is most likely from a leaking oil cooler. I had the same but did not know it at the time. I ended up changing the oil cooler but did not do a video. And yes I agree the weather has been a bit crazy this summer! Sometimes I drag out the 10x10 camping canopy to give me some shade. But sometimes I can squeeze into my one stall garage and close the garage door and turn the AC. The silicone gasket held up perfectly. No leaks. I can only guess the factory used gasket maker for speed? Cost? Either way, some have shared with me that they used the gasket plus sealant with success. I simply followed the manufacturers assembly and it worked out.
@sstressfl Thx,.. So are you saying (aside from the tranny lines going to the tranny cooler block on the radiator, there's another cooler behind tranny that's not visible? I'd need to really check where those lines go to. Also, does that "Gasket Maker and Gasket Plus Sealant" you mentioned have a name brand? I'd like to purchase the better one.
The oil cooler is mounted on top of the engine underneath the intake, nestled inside the oil valley. It’s a common failure for it to leak. The leaking oil primarily exists off the top of the engine toward the drivers side. And when you buy your new transmission filter most of them come with a gasket. As to what sealant you want to use is up to you. I used www.walmart.com/ip/Permatex-Ultra-Black-Maximum-Oil-Resistance-RTV-Silicone-Gasket-Maker-3-oz-75190/499434268
Hi,, I'd like to ask,, what's your take on tranny fluid type. Synthetic ATF+, Or, Conventional ATF+..? Which would be best, for today's modern-every-day performance?
@sstressfl I see.. but doesn't the 2015 Town and Country, Caravan And Grand Caravan use the same 62TE tranny? So in short, the 2015 Town and Country touring 62TE can use full synthetic atf÷ with no issues..?
My transmission has 180,000 miles on it it just crapped out would you recommend put a new one in or just scrap it for parts? It’s a 2013 Dodge grand Caravan
Hmmmm.... cars are very expensive right now so it might be worth putting in a junk yard trans, or even a complete rebuild. But also, depending on your situation, you could sell it and make some money! Dealers and car selling services are paying top dollar for used cars right now. Check out www.carmax.com/sell-my-car to see how much it might be worth. If the math works out, then maybe consider getting the trans fixed/replaced and then sell it to one of these services. Or maybe a dealer would buy it from you and fix it themselves. They need cars to sell desperately! But if you need the car... get it fixed :) New and used cars are selling for way too much money. My 2 cents!
@DieElspethDie Its an aftermarket that adds to the factory trans cooler built into the radiator. Here's a video I made of the install. th-cam.com/video/9m3Bdovn1tk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=qGTuY0KqK_pY7zUK
Hi Michael, I have a 2011 Dodge Caravan with a tow hitch. I'm under the understanding I have A 3700 LB limit.. I bought this used with 72,000 miles on it and now it has over 94,000 miles. I was hoping for some advice. I have zero transmission issues. 1) Should I bring my van to my tranny guy to do a tranny tune up? 2) should I buy a transmission cooler? 3) Should I install a weight distribution hitch like you did in a different video? 4) any ideas, advice and or suggestions as I continue my search for the perfect camper for me to tow with my Caravan? Camper weights? shocks? suspension and all that? It's only my wife and me. No kids, no guests. Thank you much in advance.
Pretty low mileage van for a 2011 :) Nice! 1) The guideline on the transmission is a fluid change at 120,000 miles or at 60,000 miles if it has been under extreme conditions. If this isnt something youre comfortable with, you can always work with an experienced well known trusted shop :) 2) Yes!! 3) If you are towing a camper with a boxed frame (not a c channel frame) I would highly recommend a wdh. The van will sag horribly without it and the ride will be unstable feeling. 4) Weight is not the only factor when shopping for a camper to tow with your minivan. A tall camper will push wind and kill your poor van at highway speeds. Youll find your engine spinning at very high rpm to maintain speed. A popup is tucked down low and even with the same weight as a tall camper is MUCH easier to tow. I am towing about 3500 total pounds with all of our gear and people and camper combined and on flat highway I have seen 19 mpg. In the hills 14-16. In the mountains around 12. Also, buy only the best brakes for your van. Downshift while towing to engine brake while braking. And of course make sure your camper has excellent functioning brakes as well :) Use premium fuel while towing. Add 1 or 2 pounds of air to your tires. Fresh oil in the engine. Buy tires with an adequate load rating. I'm currently using Ironman RB SUV tires with a 102 load rating (1874 lbs per tire). Make sure your van has healthy suspension components, shocks and such. I put booster shocks on the back of mine and I like the way it rides more firm. But the wdh really is the key to a proper setup. Realistically, to be safe, don't buy a camper that's over 2500 lbs. Even that is on the heavy side. My current one is 2400. But the previous one was 1700 and WHAT a difference a few hundred pounds can make! I think the best way to look at a minivan is "it's not a truck". Treat it with care and be conservative. As you approach its max tow capacity you will start to get less comfortable with the way it drives. I hope that helps! God bless you my friend. Happy hunting!!
@@sstressfl Thank you Michael. I really, really appreciate your detailed advice and I will refer to it as I progress. I’ve been looking for the lightest camper possible. I have always known of the drain plug since I was a kid (drag racing family). But since I always drop the pan and replace the filter every time I never felt compelled to buy one. 👍 But I can see why someone would like it.

We had a 2008. Same thing. VERY disapointed. All I ever did was work on that thing. My wife insited on another one when we traded it in, mostly because she likes the sto and go seats. So we bought a new 2015 (the one we have now). And it has been a night and day difference. 111,000 miles and still going strong. And we tow a heavy load multiple times every summer.
I knew mine was factory filled and assumed the level was full. So I measured what came out and put back in what I measured. It was 6. There is a method for making sure the level is correct. After filling you remove a drain bolt from the bottom of the pan, and I think at a certain temp, and any extra fluid will come out and self level. You can check alldatadiy for a manual. I think its $20/mth! Great value.
I was surprised but it came out basically the same color as the new. I suspect it’s not so much changing the fluid but putting in a new filter to renew line pressure. That synthetic mopar stuff is amazing.

I think that it's just as likely that a chunk of gasket could break off into the transmission. Besides, nothing can get into the transmission unless it can make it through the filter :D We're safe!!
I have a 2011 it does have a gasket, i saw on mine and thr mechanic put a new during trans fluid change, 2008-2020 trans are same
@@voygerr19 I will probably have this done in the shop, I don't think the mechanics have time to do that 24hr wait period, and I am guessing they will use a solid gasket.
Best video I have ever seen.
Thank you 🙏 you’re too kind 😀
Great video sir! About to change the fluid on my Journey, which is long overdue. Hoping for the same outcome.
Thank you 🙏 I’m sure you’ll do great 👍 come back and let me know how it went! thanks for the feedback.
A clogged filter will lower your line pressure and make your trans doin all kinds of funny things. Nice fix! The best kind of fix! Cheap!!👏👏👏
@@MusicMinisterJP7 So glad to hear it! Nice job brother 🙏
2010 with 180k. Semi regular oil changes, spark plugs twice and still runs great. I’m about to do what you just did😬
🙏🙏🙏 If it was mine, I'd go for it. I just put third set of shocks on ours (150k now) and suprised (shocked?) how smoooooth it still is. And I get 20-25 mpgs with it! I wish they didnt stop making the GC. Praying for your success with the transmission!
Great Tutorial
Thank you 🙏
If I am not mistaken the transmission fluid service interval is 120k miles.
@@sstressfl Hmm...I tow my dog club's cargo trailer (approx. 3000lbs) once a year 60 mile round trip. Ooops!! (LOL).
Sometimes, the "Transmission Fluid" leak could be from the oil cooler housing, especially from the Pentastar engine. There are other videos on how to change the oil cooler housing as well as an aluminum oil cooler housing (OE Fix) from Dorman.
Turned out to be the clamps I used to attach my transmission cooler loosened up. I tightened them and no more leak 👍 low hanging fruit!!
We have the same van. I just changed ours at 180K miles. :o
Nice! Is it doing ok? All is well?
Can you please shared the PID for transmission temperature? Thank you
Go here, scroll the very last post at the bottom of the page: www.chryslerminivan.net/threads/trans-temp-w-obd-fusion-app-and-obd2-dongle.160906/
looks like you need to change the oil cooler housing too
I didnt know it at the time, but figured it out later. I did it recently but due to an injury I didnt make a video.
I got the PID from this forum chat: www.chryslerminivan.net/threads/trans-temp-w-obd-fusion-app-and-obd2-dongle.160906/
Transmission stuff is always a little like myth busters.
@@sstressfl how much was the trans cooler ? You did this for. the towing ?

If it's red and not burnt it is fine . The problem with these is that they do not have a dipstick to measure the fluid .
Remove 6.5+ qts 2015. I measured it
Mines 2011, and its same as 2008-2020 caravan for trans fluid change, there is a gasket available
There is a gasket but the manual calls for goop so I used the goop 👍👍👍
Do you happen to have a part number for the coil springs? Thanks in advance 😃
I got them from rockauto! They actually have quite the selection including progressive and higher spring rate coils springs. Take a look rockauto.com
What do you think about using the gasket that came with my transmission filter instead of RTV?
The gasket will most likely split and leak. the rtv is the way to go as long as you follow instructions 👍
I prefer to do this in July rather than March
HA! Me too my friend. Me too. Trans was making noise (now I know due to the leak, slightly low fluid level). I did not want to let it go any longer so I had to make it a priority.
Huh?! 50's PERFECT car repair weather. Sure beats 95!
Ha. what issues. did you have with your 08.
What is the name of the scan tool that you are using on your phone called
Pretty cool right? I listed them in the video description.
- OBD2 Scanner amzn.to/3lvAPER
- App is called OBD Fusion
- I used a custom PID for the trans temp that I stole from this site, post #20: www.chryslerminivan.net/threads/trans-temp-w-obd-fusion-app-and-obd2-dongle.160906/
It won't make things worse, the filter is full of clutch material and it starves the transmission.
Def synthetic. And for the grand caravan only use the oem mopar atf+4 fluid 👍
@sstressfl I see.. but doesn't the 2015 Town and Country, Caravan And Grand Caravan use the same 62TE tranny?
So in short, the 2015 Town and Country touring 62TE can use full synthetic atf÷ with no issues..?
Thank you for your informative help .
Yes 👍 and I would use this amzn.to/3SUKNSe
@MusicMinisterJP7 happy Sunday! 🙏
My 2 cents!
The cooler lines are notorious for leaking. And should be replaced
They are known for leaking but I discovered mine were solid but the clamps I used to install my trans cooler just needed to be tightened. Leak fixed 👍
@DieElspethDie Its an aftermarket that adds to the factory trans cooler built into the radiator. Here's a video I made of the install. th-cam.com/video/9m3Bdovn1tk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=qGTuY0KqK_pY7zUK
Hi Michael, can I please ask what is the brand of your obd? Thanks
Sorry took so long to reply! Here it is: amzn.to/3lvAPER the app I’m using is OBD Fusion 👍
It’s great to have this expert advice moving forward. I don’t want to destroy this great van, and or hurt myself ,my family or anyone else on the road.
Your channel is great. You’re informing, compelling and entertaining. That’s podcasting on ICE. Thank you.
I had bought a tow hitch for my Ford 2002 Windstar, but never installed it. Now I have a Dodge 2009 Grand Caravan, I wonder if there is any chance I could retrofit that hitch into my van? Probably all the holes are different, but maybe it's close enough? suggestions welcome.
So, how is that transmission doing now?
155k miles and still smooth and quiet! 👍
They make a cheap drain pan with a drain bolt. Worth the $
I have always known of the drain plug since I was a kid (drag racing family). But since I always drop the pan and replace the filter every time I never felt compelled to buy one. 👍 But I can see why someone would like it.
Kissing the tip is crazy
I change mine every 30 to 40 thousand miles!
That's incredible! Do you tow a lot?
I just do a drain and fill every 15k-20k miles.. fluid is SO cheap compared to my $8k transmission..
My 2012 with 105 000 kms had transmission fluid change as you did, hasn't worked right since.
Slips gears, burning smell hesitant
BTW my 2012 is a total piece of crap. Never towed, babies, original owner
No more chrysler, dodge, fiat for me
We had a 2008.
So you ended up going 6 quarts roughly total? Weird it's very difficult to get a sure # on how much to use after changing...
Great value.
do it every 10,000 miles
I would honestly do it again every 10k miles until that fluid is red, At 100k miles I’m sure it was super black
I was surprised but it came out basically the same color as the new. I suspect it’s not so much changing the fluid but putting in a new filter to renew line pressure. That synthetic mopar stuff is amazing.
I can't believe you ruined a nice microfiber cloth using it like that... So Sad
😂 i do tend to treat them poorly
