Jesse was nothing but a liability after walt secured the tuco connection. He was dead weight that ever-increasingly caused problems necessitating Walter’s last-second saves. The writers later must have figured they needed to give Jesse some value and so had him come up with the magnet idea that would have been all Walter, and then the train robbery without detection which would've been up Mike’s sleeve. Even Saul and Skyler would eventually tell Walter to get rid of Jesse. He was a virtue signaling idiot, stealing from Gus, selling to recovering addicts, throwing money out the window.... They took Walter’s father figure devotion and ran with it to the ninth degree... Too far.

That’s why in Chinese medicine, there have been quite a few accidental poisonings with aconite, because the amount of aconite from plant to plant isn’t the same so that dosage is more difficult to predict and get consistently right.

After Gus was killed, there was no one holding back Walt from his desires for power (except for maybe Mike). With no Gus, Heisenberg is totally free and all his remaining morality is gone. After poisoning Brock, Walt reached a point of no return, sending a mesage that he would do ANYTHING to get what he wants. After season 4, Heisenberg staged the murders of 10 prisoners in 2 minutes, went to Hank's house after the muders just to see his misery, killed Mike out of rage, psichologically abused Skyler, became the only leader of the drug trade, and makes Saul scared by just looking at him in a certain way. By winning over Fring, Walt gets all the power for himself and ultimately becomes the one who knocks during s5 ep1-8

Jesse, for example, wanted out of the business. Walt didn’t want to believe his own mentee wanted to quit and give up. He tried placing blame on all the murders on Jesse “Gale, and the rest.”. this is easily one of the best scenes of the entire show for me. it is very poignant and the emotion is palpable. they both have a moment to breathe and relax as a team. sure you can say walt lied and all that, but it was really for the greater good. he really didnt do any harm to jesse nor brock. their handshake here is genuine and sweet. imo jesse was moreso manipulated by gus to be turned against walt. jesse was in a very emotional state up until this point, which is why he needed the reassurance ("right?") that killing gus was the objectively right move for both of them to carry on a better life together as a duo. through the handshake, walt is genuinely happy to have jesse back on his side again (emphasized visually as they're both on the right side of the red pole) and i'd like to think walt missed him when they were at such odds in the second half of this season. as jesse leaves and walt realizes his crazy plan has finally culminated, walt is overrun with the emotion he's gone through with jesse and with himself. very touching scene in all.

@MX 3 pride is pretty important. The world could use more of it.
With regards to the kid, it was a smart play, and maybe the only one. You could argue it's Jesse's fault for getting so emotionally involved and allowing loved ones to be vulnerable...
