Been studying Gregs video for 2 or 3 years. Bought my farm in March '22 and got a small flock of ewes and one of Gregs rams. I recently secured a custom grazing contract for 115 sheep and 2 land leases for 55 acres on top of my owned property. This man has changed my life for the better. Still going to be a few years before I can quit my job working from home, but I couldn't have done any of this without the knowledge this man is putting out there.
Thank you Greg. I may have made the mistake you mentioned. I approached my neighbor, an older gentleman who lives in town, and 30 seconds into the conversation I was asking to lease his land. He said no, despite having a land exemption about to expire. Country folk like to take things slowly. I knew this from when I was a child and watched my family deal with a lot of ranchers and farmers, but after 20 years in corporate America I had forgotten it until I watched your video. Maybe next time I'll approach him a little slower.
I grow veggies and some meat. The biggest mistake I made in leasing this land last year was not getting EVERYTHING in writing. We had a (small) lease, but it didn’t cover much/enough. It covered use of the land, use of the water, and the term “livestock” was used because I also had chickens, quail, and rabbits. But when I wanted to add turkeys and pigs, he wanted to add extra fees. Even though the lease didn’t define “livestock” specifically. Throughout the year he kept changing the rules, adding restrictions etc. He demanded we repair his irrigation system that was damaged BEFORE we started leasing. His reasoning was always “his land his rules”. Sadly we are walking away from this property this year. I am disappointed. But it has been a learning experience. The next property we get will either be ours or leasing property that doesn’t have the landowner living on it and getting EVERYTHING in writing!!
Greg, the principles you promote here are useful in more professions than I think even you realize. That's just plain good wisdom; thanks for sharing, I'm sure many of your viewers won't get this anywhere else.
As someone who does poultry, create a chicken managed compost heap. Bring in food scraps and organics from the local restaurants. Let the chickens break that down. And spread it around the pastures. I’ve turned dessert into black soil with this. You can also go a step further and spread wood chips thru the pasture also. Fertile fertile land in no time
Been building fence this week and clearing fence row, id prolly be further along but those ponds distract me and i end up fishing. lol Im living the dream brother.
You mention bringing them some meat. I know you are busy, but I think a good video for your series would be to show people the meat, the quality, marbling, possibly improved cuts, maybe Ribeyes have more of that tender wrap-around of that eye of fat. You could give that project to someone you know, if you are too busy, someone who you would like to help get started, but I'd like to see you do it. Thank you for your time.
From my own experience so far, many farmers want the money and move to the beach. Not willing to lease or private note . I ended up purchasing a pasture farm in Alachua FL.
May I know how much you paid for the land, and the size of land? How much you put into fencing, water system... I moved to Jacksonville for half a year. Trying to move to countryside. I am so done with city life.
Yeah I know leasing land is probably the best way to go but when you're moving that many had a cattle shouldn't the lands be connected or within short distance of each other or should you keep your herd smaller?
I am currently looking for land to lease in my area but no luck so far. A lot of farm land has been bought for development and building neighborhoods. My question for you is, if you were starting from stratch would you consider leasing land from a custom grazing operation?
hello sir, Sir, I am Anil Arya India I am very impressed with your video. You have given very good ideas. I respect you. Sir, I want to take agriculture land on lease at cheap rate. I am a poor farmer. leasing land for sustenance I want. Please help me. Thanks
What? Ranchers always keep their trucks totally clean! When has a rancher ever had manure and clutter in the cab? Actually your description sounds somewhat familiar 😂.

Just buy land, try a private note or mortgage and get it
