Also, I spent WAY to much time mucking about with the audio editor this week. Because when i get a dumb idea, i follow through on the dumb idea. So i hope someone enjoys the outro.
I really quite like Abyss. The reason it doesn't quite get the gold medal is while i enjoy playing it, its not a game that i think about much after i play it. Which is not a knock on it. But games I really dig get into my brain and make me think a lot. This one is definitely staying on the shelf of permanence though.
I've had my eye on this one for a bit. I never could make the push to pick it up. Not huge into set collection but really looked interesting with the push your luck and the keys and all the going on. Keep up the good work!
I played this game when it first came out and it just wasn't my favorite. But then I couldn't stop thinking about it in the past couple of years and finally bought it. It's a different experience now and I really enjoyed this review.
I had this game, played a lot! it was one my first modern board games and I made good use of it! it definitely fun, beautiful and the mechanic is not like any game I ever played before.
Wow, you went all out in this one haha. Love it. Definetly one of my favorite games and one that see play the most for it is simple to learn (and remember) and has wonderful art plus interesting mecanics to collect. My group is lazy when the need to learn new rules arrives. Thankfully more complex games often sports solo modes so all is well.
I heard Kraken was ok, but we have Leviathan and it really makes monster hunting much more interesting. Abyss is a lovely game and all of our kids enjoy playing it... and that art! Thanks for the review.
@@3MBG I believe there are only 2 expansions (& new 2 player game). Leviathan is the 2nd expansion, which I had to order from Europe at the time. I believe it's now available in the US, & think will be included in an upcoming 2nd Ed.
kiwi board game reviews in just 3 minutes!!! it cant get any better than this!! (wait he did spongebob theme song into too hahaha i love it man! subbed!)
I grew up in Wellington and live in Canada now days but the accent always feels like home man! And board games in 3 minutes so so impressive and so helpful!
I'll give the base game 7/10,mostly because of its stunning artwork, the set collection and push your luck aspect is smooth but not particulary stand out for me. The 2 expansions is very good though and add more complex side to it,especially the Leviathan which fix the ( kinda ) lame monster fighting mechanic. Not a game i would usually play but i'll keep it and would always play if someone ask ^^
Very much my line of thinking as well. Its very good, but not great, but the art rocks. I really would like to have a go with the expansions as everyone says they add a lot of good to it
Looks nice, but I am basically a solo player even though I do play lots of wargames/both sides. Right now I'm running crews in B-17 QOTS, Amerika Bomber EQOTS and Silent Victory. Soon adding Hunter's n B-25 POTS. Even retired there is sometimes just not enough time. And as always another great video. Thank you.
@@3MBG The one with the big model submarine that intimidates the heck out of me. Retired almost three yrs. Started playing again almost two years ago. Gone from 30ish games to 140 and about 28 plus or minus unplayed that I'm trying to get all played by the end of the year but I do love those true solo games. Also got hunted and night fighter ace...though I'm trying to play I want hills dragon Hunt without punching the counters to keep it pristine...lol
This game is so hard to get for a reasonable price, I just bought "Conspiracy: Abyss Universe" instead. THAT is also a FANTASTIC game. Is it better than this though, as BGG suggests?
@@3MBG amazon canada still carries the kraken n expansion in english for now. I'm not sure it can be delivered to your location tho. If not Bombyx studio sells the expansions via their online shop directly in french and english. (20 euro each, around 14 euro shipping plus 5 euro tax to canada for reference). If it helps the link is here: studiobombyx.com/en/shop/
Hi, I love this game. When looking up "You tube" I found a video done for a solo game using dice but it was in French 😞, are you able to do how to play this game in solo?
@@3MBG Yes Im talking about Abyss - problem is that it is in French. I was hoping you could find out and show in English - link attached th-cam.com/video/jOV3-_evy0o/w-d-xo.html
I really tried to like this game. This is probably the most played game in my collection but it just don't click. Think the fact that you are doing things on your own without messing with other player for most of the game is a bummer for me. I tried with different groups, experienced groups, new groups, 2 ppl, 4 ppl, but none made me like this game.

Pineappley!
If you _didn't_ include a whimsical Lovecraft parody I would have been sorely disappointed!
Bravo on the intro song alone

3 Minute Board Games the two expansions, especially Leviathan improve it dramatically
@@andrewkeane9077 agree, they really kick it up a notch. Highly recommend them both.
The Leviathan expansion is absolutely essential for this game. I highly recommend grabbing a copy whenever you can.

I recommend the Leviathan expansion!
However adding the 5th player will increase playtime as well.
There are a few expansions right? I've tried finding them locally and they are quite hard to get. Is leviathan the first one?

Kia ora Charles. I too do a fair bit of solo gaming. One soloable game on our horizon, that sounds like it might catch your eye is UBOOT.
