    Most of the test runs on asphalt which is not what this bike is designed for, and if you want to climb more hills you need to change this tires and the chainring, no more than 36 teeth, ideally between 32 and 34 teeth ,you will lose some top speed but you gain in cadence to climb, electric motors, unlike gasoline ones, work better turning at higher revolutions, so it is always better to have a high pedaling cadence on an electric bike.

      I still have my Maxxis Minion tires, but I swapped those out for Vee Speedsters for the winter. I'll put the Minions back on in the summer when I plan to do more trail riding. I did a video: E-Bike Ride | Testing the Vee Speedster 26 x 3.5 Tires | Biktrix Juggernaut Ultra Beast 2 | Ep. 5

    Considering the Juggernaut Ultra Duo 2. Still the same Bafang M620 1000w 160Nm motor as yours,. I think. I've got a hill near me that climbs 550' in the first mile and 1000' in the first three mikes. Will this bike/mid drive motor cope do you think?

    • @twowheeltim
      @twowheeltim  ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely, as long as you're using pedal assist. Using throttle on that kind of climbing will really drain your battery quickly.

    I had a hub drive and loved it 1000 km no issues. But iam not so sure about owning a mid drive

    • @twowheeltim
      @twowheeltim  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mid drives will generally have more power because they use the ebike's gears more effectively. What I mean by that is, because the motor is in the bottom bracket and it spins from the chain ring, the motor's power is enhanced by the ebike's gears.
      On a hub drive, the rider benefits from the gears changing, but the motor output remains unchanged by the gears because the output comes from the rear wheel.
      Because of this difference, the mid drive requires the rider to shift the ebike's gears more effectively. This is because the change in the motor's torque directly impacts the chain and chainrings. If the rider shifts carelessly, sudden and extreme changes in torque is can cause damage. I don't believe this is too common, though.
      I don't think one can go wrong either way, but it really depends on the rider's preference and usage.
      I hope all this makes sense. 🙂 👍🏻

    WTF. That motor is HUGE. Everything is huge. How much can you help this monster by pedaling?

    • @twowheeltim
      @twowheeltim  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're too funny! 🤣
      If you haven't ridden one, you'd be surprised. With PAS 5 and using the full range of gears, I can get up to nearly 40 mph on flat stretches. On descents, the only thing that holds me back is my own common sense! 🥴
      While climbing, the PAS levels and gear ratio work so well together that I rarely need to go above PAS 3 on 10-15% grades. I guess that's why they call it "The Beast." 👍🏻

    Nice video. Next time it would be nice if you showed the battery life at various points, especially after the climb.

    I just installed a larger cassette on my eunorau fat-hs. I needed larger gears in the back to keep the motor spinning at a good speed. It's stock lowest gear ratio was 1.26 I got it down to 1.0 for now. What's the juggernaut's lowest gear ratio? I found it, 44÷42=1.05. That's pretty low factory. Nice bike.

      Nice!!
      The Beast is a fun bike, too. So powerful and fast, and I can get good mileage out of its two 47v 15ah batteries. It's definitely a beast, though, weighing in at about 90 lbs with the batteries installed.

    • @twowheeltim
      @twowheeltim  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just looked up the specs on your bike. Very nice! You take it off road much? Did you get the second battery and, if so, does it mount on the top of the down tube?
      I've been sticking to the road on my Ultra Beast 2 riding longer distances. I want to eventually do some multi-day touring on it. I did a 3-day weekend trip back on Easter.

    • @--JohnDoe
      @--JohnDoe 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@twowheeltim I take it off road very often. The fat tires get more grip than 2.3" tires. My second battery comes in 2 days, yes it mounts ontop of the downtube. Our tires are similar, kinda knobby, I was looking at a road type of tire, for less rolling resistance, but I do go offroad often. If you keep yours on road, get a road tire, quieter and longer range, lol like you need that.

    • @twowheeltim
      @twowheeltim  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @John Doe I actually do have road tires on it. I bought Vee Speedster tires quite some time ago and absolutely love them. Here’s the video on it.

      That was my sentiment, too. Plus, I love blue! You may have seen my truck! 😆 I bought some really nice anodized blue Race Face pedals because the stock pedals, while surprisingly nice, were a little narrow for my wide feet. • @twowheeltim
      @twowheeltim  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Eric. I really don’t use the throttle much, but when I have it really kicks in with good torque. On the Beast, the throttle’s torque is actuated by the PAS level.
      I’ve been thinking of doing a video riding using only throttle to test out battery longevity and to see how it handles the uneven terrain in my area. Stay tuned. 👍🏻

    • @Eric-hz7ei
      @Eric-hz7ei 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@twowheeltim That would be awesome to see. Thanks for the response and one more question if you dont mind? I’m a bit of a newbie, so does that mean that the speed you hit using the throttle depends on what PAS level you’re in? And in that case, do you shift while in throttle to increase speed? Thank you 🙏 I’m super close to pulling the trigger on one of these

    • @twowheeltim
      @twowheeltim  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Eric,
      I can't speak for all brands of e-bikes, but on the Ultra Beast 2 the amount of torque from the mid-drive motor while using the throttle does increase with the PAS level (1-5). 0 (zero) PAS level is simply manual pedaling and you will have no response from the throttle. I think this may be standard for most e-bikes, but I could be wrong.
      You can change your PAS level on the bike while using the throttle, but I've never tested exactly how it responds and how fast I can go using only the throttle. That will be something I'll emphasize when I do a "Using the Throttle" video. Hopefully I can do that ride this weekend and have the video edited and published by next weekend.
