Also, rally crashes are much less controlled than F1 crashes, which use the many safety mechanisms incorporated into the track. Rally is safe, but not as safe as F1.
Alex Owen Yeah but Rally drivers have MUCH more uncertainty regarding the course layout. F-1 drivers know every single inch of the track, they know every straight, every corner, corner severity, so on. Nothing from the course layout itself comes unexpectedly for an f-1 driver. Knowing the course like the back of your hand removes much danger. You know yourself how much more easy it is driving a road you know as opposed to driving a road you don't know. The paving of Pike's Peak kind of ruined it in my opinion. It's still amazing driving and great to watch, but without the dirt/gravel section there's just something missing.
I agree, the extra part of different surfaces makes this a completely different challenge then a full tarmac stage... despite that it is still quite a thrill to watch.
I agree as well, loeb has some serious driving skills, but when I saw it was paved the whole way I kind of lost interest. Just not the same as unpaved rally driving.

I don't understand why so many people compare him to all the other? Sebastien Loeb is Rally Legend there is absolutely no one that come close to his WRC records I mean not even close. Dude is perfection behind wheels. Loeb is simply the Best the world has ever seen so far. I'm not big fan of his but I have huge respect for him!
I_THE_ME No I completely disagree with that comment. I understand that Rally isn't what it used to be back in the days! But you can't take credit away from him. He was on the rise 15 years ago when he was competing against some of the best WRC has ever seen. He is on a whole another leval of competition now. He is smooth with little risk when he drives. I find WRC boring because he always wins but I have full respect for the Frenchman!
+I_THE_ME I saw him beating McRae, Sainz, Burns, Makkinen in Monte carlo rally 2002. He was disqualified at te end because of he changed a wheel just before he s arrived to Monaco. But he won the rally... everybody knows that..
i watched past pikes peak runs and the road was dirt not tarmac. I think half of what made pikes peak great was the fact that it was a dirt road and you were powersliding on the edge of the bend, this asphalt run is not impressive at all.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pikes_Peak_International_Hill_Climb#Race_Records so vatanen had a wr of 10:47 on dirt in 88, loeb has 8:13 on full tarmac in 2013. I think there is more skill involved in driving full power on dirt especially in this race versus on tarmac. I also think it was much more beautiful and exciting to watch and in my mind dirt was what made pikes peak great

Loeb Who ???? Sorry but Kankkunen Is Absolutely the best of all time not Loeb that win without competitors, with an out of shape co-driver and only for Citroen.. KKK win in gr B gr A First wrc and (modern wrc Subaru padle shift argentina and Finland 99) all this with makinen rohrl McRae Sainz Biasion panizzi burns mikkola Salonen Auriol Vatanen Alen Blonqvist like competitors.. not villagra Duval Wilson rautenback gardemaister as loeb had, they were not fast drivers. Somebody rember a strong opponent for Loeb ? Ok Gronholm, and then ??? nobody else..consider that hirvonen was not a great driver, that gronholm retired in 2007 and ran with the 307 wrc which was the worst car in history, that solberg ran with the subaru that from 2004 onwards has never been competitive .. and that the rest were mediocre drivers like duval, wilson ecc. Better 4 very strong titles that 9 Easy and weak titles. Put Loeb in the 80 or 90 years.. maybe he win an handshake but not for sure 9 titles. .. did he win in rallycross? NO (Solberg win 2 time), did dakar win? no, (Kankkunen win the 88 Dakar) returning to the wrc did he win? no, he win in the wtcc ? No, because he has found real opponents, Rohrl won the pikes peak on the gravel without electronics beating vatanen, loeb same race on the asphalt with a spaceship against anyone. Evidently he is not so strong. Look Sainz.. 57 years old and win the Dakar 2020.. the same was KKK that win Dakar in 1988, and also Carlos Sainz he developed Subaru Ford Toyota polo wrc and Peugeot and mini for the Dakar, Loeb drive only for Citroen, with cars full of electronics easier to drive, the 80 and 90 drivers won with the H gearbox. Its all logical Loeb Is not the best. the 9 titles were clearly won without opponents, the subaru after 2003 was no longer competitive, gronholm retired in 2007 and in 2004/05 he ran with the 307 which is the worst wrc in history .. ogier sent away by Citroen because was a good opponent ..sorry but the rankings don't lie, just look at the top 6 drivers of the rankings of those years, any wrc race from 2005 to 2012 if you find a strong driver and opponent for Loeb let us know. This Is mathematical
Loeb probably never think about risks. He is simply just driving, and seldom do anything wrong. That,s why he win World Rally Championship 9 times. From 2004 to 2012. The best ever, rally driver.

Always gonna be haters out there... Thanks to the internet these days we now know who they are.. The guy is a legend and he is beyond proving to others.. His racing team is following his steps and they are winning championship after championship..
People said exactly the same thing when Ari Vatanen posted his time way back in 1988, for a start as other people have said there was gravel back then & car technology has moved forward in leaps & bounds since 88 & will continue to do so. To answer your question YES I personally think someone will beat it eventually.
+Siddharth Rajkumar Yes, any taller gearing would be wasted engine potential. That's why it was hit only once and briefly on the entire run. Perfect gearing for the course..
IamScoHo "That's why it was hit only once and briefly on the entire run." Indeed that indicates perfect gearing for this course. Glad you pointed that out. You have to admire how engineers and race/rally car drivers work together. While one may have a more important role than the other, if one slips up, the whole team loses.

It was the yanks who saved the French in WW2 so the I the French should have a little more respect.
And the Yanks saved Britain as well.
People seem to have very short memories.
What a living LEGEND.
I think for most gearheads, we kind of want one pov the entire time
Aye aye
There is on the red bull channel
I could never thought you could get 188bpm heartbeat rate for driving a car. What an athlete!
i thought the pikes peak course had a gravel part on it...
They paved the last of it a few years ago.
James Roberts
It was a sad day for motorsport
top racer regardless of category !!!
When did they pave it the whole way?
1st October 2011..... R.I.P Pikes Peak.....
Will never be the same... not even close.
A true master at work. Makes it look very easy.
A tachometer would be pretty more useful than a crappy fake altitude counter
250 km/h au rupteur ! you can see it from time to time...
He hasn't had any good competitors against him so he has had really easy time winning his 9 rally championships.
I think half of what made pikes peak great was the fact that it was a dirt road and you were powersliding on the edge of the bend, this asphalt run is not impressive at all.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pikes_Peak_International_Hill_Climb#Race_Records
so vatanen had a wr of 10:47 on dirt in 88, loeb has 8:13 on full tarmac in 2013. I think there is more skill involved in driving full power on dirt especially in this race versus on tarmac. I also think it was much more beautiful and exciting to watch and in my mind dirt was what made pikes peak great
qpmkro True. But that doesn't take away from Loebs accmplishment, and I'm sure he could have nailed in on dirt, too.
+Benedocta I would've, his WRC records on dirt prove your point.
+qpmkro ABSOFUCKINGLUTELY...... these Loeb fanboys just don't get it......
Pikes Peak was a DIRT TRACK.... not a fucking paved road......
My Grandma can drive on a fucken road....probably quicker than Loeb
seanosomething Loeb is a WRC champion. He can handle dirt.
ONE of the top three best drivers in the world easily. AMAZING! :O
1: the best race driver 2: the best race car 3: the best time of all time........It is mathematical!!
Smooth inputs, rarely spins the wheels, gets on the gas early. Fast without over-cooking it. Awesome work. You know you're fast when it looks easy!
Yanks shut it ,there is not one man in the USA that could beat this guy even in the same car he's that good .
Loeb probably never think about risks. He is simply just driving, and seldom do anything wrong. That,s why he win World Rally Championship 9 times. From 2004 to 2012. The best ever, rally driver.
european power beating the shit out of the american muscle
"The biggest record of them all was taken by Rhys Millen, who took his 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe race car from bottom to top in 9:46.164"
"Hyundai Group (Hangul: 현대그룹; Hanja: 現代그룹; /ˈhjʌndɛ/)[1] was a multinational chaebol (conglomerate) headquartered in Seoul, South Korea. It was founded by Chung Ju-yung in 1947 as a construction firm and Chung was directly in control of the company until his death in 2001."
Since when is Korea in " 'murika"?
Unlimited France Sébastien Loeb Peugeot 208 T16 Pikes Peak 2013 8:13.878 145.27 km/h Overall
GRIDLEGEND S And? Rhys Millen (NZ born) wasn't driving a US car. Nor was multi time Pikes Peak trial overall winner Nobuhiro Tajima which drove EXCLUSIVELY for Suzuki.
They are all great drivers mate, thats true.
America 2-0 In World Wars
Bravo Sébastien et bravo Peugeot. Nous avons les meilleurs pilotes, meilleurs ingénieurs, meilleurs pneus donc c'est la victoire logique à la fin!
***** ah ah ! Tu es un petit plaisantin toi non ? Ils ont gagné quoi audi ?
Everybody is talking about the "dirt" missing part. Are you sure you want to talk about dirt or gravel missing parts as a way to making a point of that with the NINE times in a row WORLD RALLY CHAMPION?? Put some dirt part and he breaks that record too as he checks his mails on his cellphone.!!
Always gonna be haters out there... Thanks to the internet these days we now know who they are.. The guy is a legend and he is beyond proving to others.. His racing team is following his steps and they are winning championship after championship..
maikicba I
another awesome fact of him, is that he lapped on catalunya circuit just 2.752 sec slower than vettel
Dirt rally has better graphics O_O
Rode up Pikes Peak on my bicycle in 3.5 hours, took 24 minutes to ride down!
they putted aspahlt on pikes peak and should be punishable by law
HE DESTROYED THAT OLD RECORD!!!! GOOD LORD THAT CAR LOOKS FAST!
8:31 I knew it, the World is flat.
1ls376 haha funny
I knew Seb was good, but this just showed HOW GOOD
Fantastic driver as always!! But Ari Vatanen and Peugeot 405 T16 was the best combination ever ......
People said exactly the same thing when Ari Vatanen posted his time way back in 1988, for a start as other people have said there was gravel back then & car technology has moved forward in leaps & bounds since 88 & will continue to do so. To answer your question YES I personally think someone will beat it eventually.
06:52 Did he hit the rev limit in 6th gear??
+Siddharth Rajkumar Yes
+Siddharth Rajkumar They ave that gearing welded down.
ramairgto72 You mean short gearing, biased to acceleration?
+Siddharth Rajkumar Yes, any taller gearing would be wasted engine potential. That's why it was hit only once and briefly on the entire run. Perfect gearing for the course..
IamScoHo "That's why it was hit only once and briefly on the entire run." Indeed that indicates perfect gearing for this course. Glad you pointed that out. You have to admire how engineers and race/rally car drivers work together. While one may have a more important role than the other, if one slips up, the whole team loses.
It's very nice to see Peugeot's power "RAWR"
Very Pikes
wow
+Stephen Sutcliffe such wow
145M/h on a road with no crash barriers and at pretty much 4k feet is just mental
Thats not POV
+SkiiLLeDxRoyaL POV "from the car perspective"
+SkiiLLeDxRoyaL You´ve watched too much porn man.True story.
congratulation sebastian Loeb !!!
Pourquoi je regarde ca avant de dormir ?
parce que c'est une comptine...
thats just insane! with all that people so close to the track i would be worried and holding in my trottle i guess. that differs us from the pros :-) (that and skill lol)
ich würde behaupten Röhl wäre schneller auf der heutigen strecke
this engine has enogh power. The Problemm is only the breaking. With 240 km/h accerlerating towards the abyss. Nice done Loeb. Great performance.
uphill is easy... downhill would be a challenge
Jenson Button Good point!
+bdcash i believe the queen of the peak said that also
+Jenson Button 🏁 Just watched this video for the manyth time! Been Loeb fan for ever. But also a Jonson 'blue' Button fan for ever. When I get my Basenji I'm calling him... Jenson 'blue' Button 🐶 meow... (can't bark)
both can be cool !
have some of the cars air pressure cabine?
with O2 i mean?
or is it just plasic or fiberglas body ?
+Jenson Button you've clearly never driven a car, or just think with your ass...
S. Loeb the best rally driver of modernity. IMHO.👍👍👍👍🌟
Guy Martin would take a good minute off this time.
+Ivor Biggun Guy Martin the man from another planet ^^
Nah
+Wavy Handles easy guy martin has no fear
That's easily one of the most stupid comments i've ever seen ...
DK0207 Stick around.
La FRANCE QUI GAGNE .
MERCI champion !
Soyons fiers de lui .
as a comparison on 1980 years on pike's peak that aint wr as long as its tarmac and a lot of better car... Even can see from hands of Loeb, he barely even has to move steering wheel, lmao VATANEN, RÖHRL KINGS OF PIKES PEAK FOREVER! LEGENDS. Like Kankkunen said b group was for mens, WRC is for boys...
B group was a thrill and huge rush of deadly adrenalin.
Bit sad that they laid tarmac all the way to the top, would be more fitting for Loeb with half/half.
Crazy Run,in sixth gear he gets in the limiter at 6:53. Nice Racing :)
pah on asphalt Walther Röhl forever on Gravel much better than this shit
+Octa's Gameplay and he was shifting by hand !
Vatanen beat Röhrl´s record one year later with worse weather conditions.
what a rage, i love it
La adrenalina de esa carrera no lo dejó dormir en varioss días creo...
