For people confused as how night owls do it: It’s just at night, we tend to be more relaxed and creative because our daily duties are done. Once our jobs and works are over, we have a sense of comfort and motivation to do all sorts of things since now we have “free time”. Alongside the fact that, at night most people are asleep and we have the “night to ourselves”. It’s quiet, peaceful, and comforting. Doing homework/jobs, cleaning, listening to music, doing art, it just hits different. Plus: 2am thoughts do be wildin so it’s an experience HAHAHA Reply about why you like working better at night down below to see what else i missed, this is personally from my experience
Less light (I'm not a big fan sunlight sneak into my room for the whole time) and my room temperature is low (especially rainy day). This time nobody distrubs you to do whatever you wanted and needed.
Everything is asleep so the only thing that can distract you are the hallucinations. Anyway what's your weirdest 2AM thought? Mine was probably the time I spent 20 minutes having an argument with myself over why grilled cheese is called grilled cheese and not a toasted cheese sandwich.
Less light, less movement of people /social disturbances and like OP said most of the tedious things are usually out of the way. I'm not sure why but some reason my brain feels way more efficient at like 10-11pm and onwards when studying/essay writing. Also a personal thing but I really dislike sleep and I don't feel tired until 3am ish
I dont sleep at all, two nights in a row, and then oversleep the next, literally zero sleep. Or my sleep schedule is literally all over the place [EDIT] JESUS EVERYONE! Thank you so MUCH for the support on this one singular comment I made a year ago! I really appreciate everything you've all said and the advice you've given me! Thank you so much! And btw, I have improved, and my sleep schedule has gotten better, I do have better control over it. Thank you, I wish you all the best!
@@Psych2go no...to be honest, it more so just me not feeling tired, and my brain have thoughts and ideas running all over the place constantly, not wanting to calm down and rest.
Throughout all of high school I would regularly go to bed around 1-2am and wake up around 5am to get to my first class at 6am. I hated sleeping with a passion for a lot of my adolescence, I wouldn't even take naps, I also never drank coffee or energy drinks, but I somehow still had the energy to get through the day. I can't function with a sleep schedule like that anymore, but I'm still not able to take naps, even if I try to, not matter how tired I feel.
I'm definitely a night owl. I don't like going to bed early, and by staying up late, I feel like I can get more time to myself. When it's later at night, I'm less likely to be pestered by emails and more likely to have the kitchen to myself. And there were times when I really wanted to finish (or at least make significant progress in) a project, before going to sleep. I can wake up early, when I have to get ready for something specific, but I tend to get sleepy later on in the day.
yup, I'm a night Owl as well(4 am atleast) thought I've a constant fight with my parents about it since I sleep till 11 am them but Like I finish all my lectures and work in the Quite and cozy atmosphere of the night so why shouldn't I.
I'm an extreme early riser and believe it or not, we're not that much different. I wake up for the day at 3 AM and enjoy using the early AM hours for creativity and working on stuff. I like to joke that if you're enough of an early bird, you warp back around the other side like Pac-Man and become a night owl.
100% a night owl. I can wake up early, but I have to plan it. Let me do my thing until 2 am and you'll get me at my best. That's what I love most about my flex hours. Outside my early morning meeting every so often I can start my day at 11 without a single person taking issue. I have gotten remarks about me doing stuff at night, but as long as I do my job it's not an issue.
Im the same I usually stay up till like 5 or 6am, and usually my natural clock wakes me up at 11am no matter how much sleep I get. I can wake up earlier if I have to, but if I get woken up early without warning I get really bitchy. My roommate learned the hard way if she's going to wake me up early at least bring my a donut or something as a sacrificial offering. Otherwise I'll either purpose sleep through her attempts or I get snappy and will either cry in frustration or fight someone 🤷😂
I’m a night owl and an art student (3D modelling student) so that statistic about art students is spot on. I feel the most productive and get random burst of productivity sometimes at 12am or 2am
I'm kind of atypical, I'm a hobbyist artist but I'm an early riser, although I'm so much of an early riser that I might as well be a night owl, haha. I wake up for the day at 3 AM so there's a lot of overlap between my "work on art and other fun stuff" times (about 4 AM to 6 AM most mornings) and times night owls use, except mine's at the beginning of my day. I live in a tiny rural village where everything closes at 8 PM so amazingly, my social life is unharmed by my weird schedule. It's cool I think that extreme early risers and extreme night owls actually have lots of common ground.
I sleep around 2-3 am. When im having anxiety at night I just stay up throughout the night. I like to wake up during 11am-12pm because I enjoy the Afternoons and im able to function during the Afternoons. For me 5-6pm is when im the most energetic but after 7 my body starts to wind down. I physically cant do anything during the mornings.
I'm a night owl, and because of school starting so early I've been consistently getting sick every month due to a lack of sleep. I can't fall asleep until around 2am, sometimes later, so during the week I only get 5-6 hours of sleep every night. I just wish I had the option to exist on my schedule, so I wouldn't miss so much school. I just missed two weeks and I have to go back on Monday, and I'm totally unprepared.
Bro why don't you go to sleep like 2pm to 10pm or some variation of that? Then you can enjoy your night, go to school, pass some time with your family and sleep well
@@murraarrum9042 I would try that,, but unfortunately I dance after school every day and sometimes don't get home until 9:30. I'm hoping next year's dance schedule allows me to take a nap at home between school and driving to the dance studio, plus I'll probably take less classes so I'll only be there 3 times a week maximum. Taking a nap in the middle of the day usually helps, so I might start doing that on the days I have time, which is only some Tuesdays + Fridays, but hopefully it'll help.
I had the same problem when I was in school. I always tried to just go to bed earlier but alot of times I couldn't so I would just drink coffee to stay awake.
i consistenly get a horrible amount of sleep on school weeks, this last week i got such little sleep that not only did i take a 6 hour "nap" after school on friday (i forgot to set an alarm -_-), i was still able to get a full night's sleep afterward too (which for me is like 9-10 hours)
I'm a night owl too. I have to force myself off electronics at least 30 min before bed and try to start winding down by 9 o clock that way I can actually fall asleep at a reasonable time. Tbh the only reason I actually bother trying to fix my sleep is because I have to drive my brother and I to school every morning and I don't want to be falling asleep at the wheel since it's a 45 minute drive.
There's a really big contrast between the sleep schedule my mom has and the one that I preffer (not do bc I am still in school and HAVE to abide to the schedule that they have [I do the schedule in summer vacation and such]). My mom is a morning lark while I am a Night Owl, which is weird bc the rest of my family are Morning Larks, guess my personality and inside chemistry take more from my dad's part of the family.
I find it crazy that in the two years I’ve been subscribed to the channel, it has grown from about 4M to 10M subscribers. I’m glad more and more people are finding this channel.
I’m a night owl. Miss most of the morning, usually waking up around 1-3pm. Night is the time to let my mind run free, and the latest I ever go to sleep is 7am. Assuming I can sleep, which can be a problem as a night owl. Sometimes your body just has too much energy reserved from how late you wake up that you end up going a day without sleep. That’s really the only drawback I’ve experienced. I do want a more productive sleep schedule, since with how late I wake up it gives little time to get things done that my night time usually gets cramped with things to do. I’m not a morning person, but I at least want to be in bed by 1am and up by 1pm. That’s a goal, and if I can keep that consistency I will be more productive with my time.
Bruh I am the exact same as you literally everything you said is spot on so now I don’t have to comment this 🤣 the biggest downside me with this sleep schedule is when I have to work early which luckily is only a few times a week I end up getting less than 2 hours sleep or none at all which ain’t fun while working long shifts but luckily most of my shifts are afternoons/evenings so I’m good most of the week ☺️
Wow, this is basically me since the world shut down in 2020. Was definitely still a night owl before, but without those obligations to be up sooner my sleep schedule drifted later and later into the day. And I definitely feel that crunch when it comes to work or personal projects, there are some things I just haven't been able to get done because by the time I feel up to working on them, everyone is is winding down and we just get in each other's way. If you can come up with a way to reset things that actually works, ping me.
I am a night owl, have always been. But I am also a neurodivergent person and sometimes I just can’t function so I nap. Sometimes I wake up feeling better but most times it makes it worse. I think the reason why we function so well at night is because there are no distractions and is easier to just exist without a restrictive frame, I do so much at night, but in the day I get distracted so easily. 😅
I'm a Night Owl. Night is a very calming time for thinking, a lot of ideas coming into my mind and I enjoyed it. It's also quiet and peaceful to start project or assignments, no disturbances. I calculate my time of sleep, 4hours of sleep is good for me to stay active the whole day. I can just take a nap at night for two hours and wake up again. I can just sleep at morning if there's no schedule and avoid people. But I think things would be different after I graduate and get a job.
i felt like I’m a morning lark, napper, and a night owl all combined. I wake up naturally at 7am, always have a nap time after class, then I’ll be energized again for the rest of the day until 2am max. For me, I find out that my brain easily memorises things early in the morning, but at night its more towards creativity. I’d study and do my notes neatly at night so that I can revise it early in the morning. I’m way more efficient that way 😬
I'm a night owl and a music producer. I do agree that we, night owls, feel more creative at night. But personally, I feel more relaxed at night since it is quiet and nighttime is colder and it makes me more focused on what I want and need to do. Although being a night owl has disadvantages like most shops are closed at night so I sometimes need to wake up earlier in order to buy stuffs outside or some people I work with are morning larks so I sometimes don't get sleep at all. At first, I thought it was a bad thing being a night owl but as my life goes on, I realized that I can live my life at the fullest even being a night owl.
Glad that you got a job as music producer... I am a lawyer and a night owl so I work standard office hours, have been struggling to focus at college and at work throughout my life. :( I always think I would have performed a lot better in every aspect if I don't have to wake up at 8am...
what songs have you made? i kinda want something to do something in the music business and have considered a music producer but i know nothing about music (i played flute in band) and recently i've had the problem of wanting to do literally nothing but watch tv...
@@victoriah1448 I have been making songs around 3 years now but currently im just ghost producing with my friend (His artist name is ReVine) since I am still not quite sure which type of music I want to make. I think if you want to go deeper in the music industry, I suggest you learn music theory as it helps you to grow more as a musician/producer. Although it is not easy at first, I think anyone could do it with enough dedication.
@@stephanietang3716 this is really relatable. I’m lucky to be self-employed, but as most of my customers are businesses I still have to put up with waking up early regularly. “Waking up at 8am…” really reminds me of the girl I’m dating. If I would say anything like that she would be surprised I consider waking up at 8 am early. She even calls 9am sleeping in. I totally disagree though.
My boyfriend's a musician too and a night owl (although when he told me he went to bed at noon and woke up for the day at 7 PM, I almost spit out my drink, haha, there's staying up late and then there's staying up so late it's almost early). I'm an atypical art type (artist, writer) in that I'm an early riser, but I'm such an extreme early riser (I wake up for the day at 3 AM) that I share some characteristics with night owls (and we probably have lots of overlap times since I work on stuff in the first part of the morning).
Thank you for this video...my family hates the fact that I am a night owl and often miss out on morning plans and activities, but seeing all the comments I'm glad that I'm not the only one
I’m definitely a night owl, but there are what I call “early bird cycles” where I find myself sleeping at or before midnight and/or sleeping late and waking up early. Idk what causes these. They aren’t regular either, but they just happen occasionally and only last up to a week. As a night owl artist, I am more creative around 22:00 (10PM) and knowing there is less activity at night gives my mind a little more peace. Not having to worry about guests and awkward moments around strangers; however, I do get anxiety at night b/c of the risk of robberies and murders. No matter how “safe” a place is, chances are slim for where I live, but they are never zero. playing music or listening to commentary while I draw helps me focus on getting art done.
I'm a mix between night owl and woodcock. I always stay up late and feel least tired at night. But I have an early riser job so I'm always dead tired during the day until the sun sets, then I suddenly have energy and can't sleep.
Hello there. I’m a night owl by accident after 5 years of poor sleep habits and staying up later and later. I now usually fall asleep around 3AM to 5AM and wake up between 11AM and 2PM. It certainly helps that at my last few jobs I’m ALWAYS the evening shift cuz no one else can or wants to work closing shifts. Which is great for me cuz I get to sleep until 1PM and chill before work a bit.
I certainly fall under the night owl schedule. It's just easier for me although it comes at the cost of doing activities with friends and family. Might spend the odd week as a morning lark as the sleep pattern is not consistent. But more often than not. I quickly fall into a night owl again.
@@Psych2go on the rare occasion my pattern is sleeping early and being active in the morning. I find myself a bit more relaxed. Still anxious but not as bad. But when I'm a night owl. I become more anxious and unsettled. I get unsettled in the day if I struggle to sleep because of noise.
I am most productive from 6pm to 12am, can concentrate better. I don’t nap during the day. Naturally falls asleep by 1am and get up by 9am. It was a struggle and torture for 25 years working for public sector because it caters solely for morning ppl. I was punished and sited for staying at work late. I was also the only one chose to get to work at 9am. Every year I used most of my benefit time for being late to work. I am retired since July. My body can’t be happier to follow its bio clock.
This is interesting to me. Back when I had seizures (which were most likely during my sleep) I had a ton of trouble getting to sleep. After having brain surgery which stopped the seizures, I could easily sleep, but almost never dream now. Back before the surgery, I had vivid dreams almost every night.
I lovingly call myself a midday pigeon 😂 I like waking up later, and am very energized 1-2 hours post wake up, get super tired around 3 and 7pm, reenergized by 8pm, and want to be home chilling by 9pm. I go gremlin if kept up past 2am and wont sleep until 6 or 7am if kept up. I *did* notice that 4am wake up felt really good though, but maybe that was because my dog always wanted a 4am walk and we would go see the sunrise every morning lol My sleep ritual also takes 3 hours, so I start that at whatever time will give me 8 hours with a 1-2 hour insomnia buffer I've suffered from debilitating insomnia for most of my life, so sleep has become part science for me 😅🙃
As a night owl I found a perect routine for me is to go to sleep as early as I can and wake up as early as I can because I used to sleep like 3-4h before TT Lemme explain: What I love about staying up is the calmness, darkness and just the quiet, comforting atmosphere sooo to be able to experience that and still lead a normal, healthy life (mainly get thay 8h of sleep and be able to do my day to day tasks) I tend to go to sleep around 9 pm and wake up at 5 am when everything is still quiet and calm~ So you get to sleep 8 hours, get that quiet night vibes and still get everything done during the day! It's a win win situation (tho I have my weak days when I stay up sometimes x'D trying to avoid it most days with this method tho and really recommend it!)
It takes me a whole lot of time to be productive when I wake up and even getting out of bed takes me longer than it should. What makes you think that early in the morning would be ideal, when all the energy I have is already at hand at night?
@@cerebrummaximus3762 it would be ideal because if you wake up really early you can let yourself lay in the bed longer, make a coffee, just chill for a while and enjoy the ongoing night and still have time to be productive All you do is mirror the routine, instead of waking up late and going to sleep late, you can wake up early and go to sleep early so you experience: Night=>day instead of Day=>Night I'm just sharing what helped me to make a productive schedule to, as a night owl, enjoy the night, have a healthy routine and be more productive. It doesn't have to work for everyone. My aim was to just make a routine that let's me enjoy the calmness of the night while still getting my beauty sleep to be physically and mentally healthy. So Yeah you do you, It just worked for me to get the best of both worlds
Would definitely love a video on an updated study especially post-pandemic with many people 'morning larks' spending 50% of their time working from home.
Night owl here. Used to play guitar till I slept back in high school. This semester is the closest I've been to a morning person for a while, and I usually fall asleep around 12-2 (as opposed to 3-4:30 from prior semesters). Nights are quiet and alone, and since I'm very sociable and distractable I prefer to socialize when everyone is up and about, and work when they're asleep. I like mornings, but they come to an end quickly and are hard to catch. I miss them but I'm not a functional morning person.
I am so happy to be an afternooner. I go to bed by 2am to avoid the depressing/weird thoughts. I sleep in until 10am, something most people envy. It's beautiful to be right in the middle.
This is very well timed! I’ve been desperately trying to fix my sleep schedule and failing to 😅 I just don’t get tired in the night easily, and so it is hard to convince myself to go to bed.
I just can't go to bed, my friends are like "just go to bed when you want to." Problem being I'm not tired so I just lay there and wait until I do (which usually isn't for another 5 hours)
My schedule forces me to be work with coworkers from 9am to 4 pm. Most of my coworkers only do day-time work and always like to have a laugh when I show up lethargic. "good morning sleepy" they cheerfully say as I respond with my deep crackling voice. However, when graveyard shifts (9pm to 6am) happen, I always volunteer along one work mate, and we always have a good time talking philosophy until the sun rises. NO larker EVER wants to do it (been at my work for 10+years). No matter the work, we always enjoy those times. That's when, I feel, most introverts would benefit socially if they all took up graveyard shifts. We'd all benefit socially then. Then, the larks come out happy and we go to sleep happy because we could work on our own time.
The best jobs I've had allowed me to be evening or night shift then again those aren't always easy jobs I've done two person jobs by myself during those hours cuz no one wants to work night shift without a differential
I’m very annoyingly only a night owl. I can make myself sleep and go to bed early successfully for like two nights before my body naturally returns to the midnight shift. Worst of all is that I’ve been like this since I was like five and it’s been such a difficult thing to deal with…
for me, it's weird, i used to wake up normally around 6:45 am to around 7:00 am, but then in a quick period of time i started waking up at 8:00 am, and now around 9:00 am. I usually go to sleep around 10:30 pm. I prefer waking up at 7:00 am tbh though. maybe the sudden waking up later is because i got darker curtains, because i got tired of waking up so early. maybe i can use an alarm to go back to waking up around maybe 7:30 am? (context for waking up so late: I do homeschool. not religous homeschool though, i still learn at a normal pace)
I'm a total night owl. I literally hate being out during the day. I hate the hustle and bustle of everything going on during the day. At night, I feel far less anxious, so, more calm, focused and undisturbed. This compliments my INFJ personality. The downside of this, for me, is that I still have to find ways of operating during daytime hours. Most businesses are open during the day and things like Dr appointments have to be taken care of during daylight hours not to mention being around extended family. I also don't want to be doing things like grocery shopping too late at night because, well, there are crazy people out there and a lot of crime happens under the cover of night. Being a night owl comes with challenges but I've always leaned more towards a nighttime lifestyle and it may even be rooted in the fact that as a child, both my parents worked graveyard shifts. At least my years of moon light have saved me from the ravages of the sun. I am constantly told that I look far younger than I actually am. Find the positives where you can!
experience tells me I'm a night owl. I wrote almost all my papers for university between 10pm and 4-5 am. My uni has very adaptable schedules, as most classes can be chosen from a list that ranges in schedule from 8 am (for morning types) to 6 pm (my favoured timeslot). This way I can get up around 10-11 am, do some light activity until noon and still follow all mandatory classes in the afternoon.
My friend and I were good examples to this video. He was a morning lark and I am a night owl. While he struggles in college, I was taking a scroll through the process. But he has a better social life than me of course. But that never really bothered me since I am an introvert myself.
@Can Tin it makes sense, my more extroverted friends tend to be up pretty early and enjoy socializing with lots of people throughout the day, while myself and the other introverts I know tend to be night owls and we tend to enjoy not having to have to interact with people and having time to our selves.
@cantin8697 if you are more easily able to attend events or meet people because the rest of the world is "forcibly" pushed into a morning lark routine than it only creates more trouble for night owl type people to meet. There are not a slew of midnight coffee shops or bookstores, shopping centers close around 9pm, movie theaters too. This means that you are fighting both the social norm as well as a lack of ability to function on your own and have places to go to outside the social 9-5, leaving night owls to isolate after about 9pm every day. Once you get into a routine of self isolation then socialization becomes more difficult as you are not practicing it daily. Two pronged problem :) The world really should run in a split lifestyle, would be quite interesting to see this happen, more ultraviolet lights after 9pm, more businesses to have day and night shifts (I am talking big businesses, ones that normally only have a 9-5). Until that social support exists night owls will be more apt to learn self isolation.
For me it differs. It definitely depends on stress and other factors(like what exactly am I expected to do either that day/week/month) but most of the time, I go to bed either at 10pm 12am or 2 am. Then I’d either wake up at 3am(mainly because of an alarm if I needed to do something really important),6am, or 9am. The sleep times correlate to the wake times. I normally go to bed at 10 if I’m wanting to get up at 3, same for 16, I go to bed at 12, and I don’t ever want to get up at 9 but that happens on days off usually when I want to get up at 6 but don’t because I’m still tired. I normally stay up til 12-2 on the nights before a day off because I know I can risk not getting up at 6. All in all. I sleep like this because I just can’t bring my self to do homework. But, if I wake up at 3(and if I even get up) I need to start working or else imma fail. This was working for some time and I implemented it because of my adhd not allowing me to focus on anything and me not having the will power to work. TLDR:school fucked me up man.
What I do is wake up super early (at 5), go through school, take a 2-3 hour nap around 3 or 4 and then stay up until 1. It honestly works for me, I don’t mind missing out on the afternoon because I like nighttime more. My friends all understand I take naps so we just chat at school and later in the night :)
Oh i am absolutely 100% a nightowl. What isn't covered in this video are Circadian Disorders such as Delayed Sleep Phase Disorder. DSPD is mostly genetic, though it is still being studied, and sadly, very much not a choice for those who suffer ): In short, DSPD is like permanent jet lag, your brain does not start producing many of the chemicals required for sleep until much much later in the evening (this has a huge affect on the orexin system, as well as your digestive system!) Many people with DSPD are forced into an earlier schedule due to societal norms and requirements - this is always a recipe for a slow moving disaster because it means we often move about our world unhappy and exhausted. It also means that health wise, we're prone to being overweight, and at a much higher risk for diseases such as diabetes. Worst of all, though, is that DSPD cannot be cured. Light therapy, sleep hygiene, antidepressants, everything under the sun only give temporary relief, but one evening of going to bed 30 minutes later causes a reset of a process that takes sometimes over a year to solidify - it is the most rigid and unyielding of circadian rhythms, and we can't even go to sleep when we're exhausted unless it's a certain time. This does make those with DSPD at risk for falling into Freerunning disorder, or non-24 hour circadian rhythms where our biochemical 'day' can be anywhere between 26 and 48 hours long which is a much more severe circadian disorder. However, when we're able to live by our natural clocks we're happy, creative and healthy - it just rarely works out that way! That being said, us biological night owls were probably the ancient watchers of the fire at night, when the majority of the tribe slept, we kept them safe from ambushes, attacks from animals, and kept the fire going. We just don't have that use or recognition of importance anymore ): I will say though that I am EXTREMELY excited for the research into orexin antagonists going on - it's a whole new world for us, and there might be hope in a year or two! for a more socially acceptable schedule.
I have two phases that switch quite randomly. They can switch in days or months. First is Insomniac - I sleep max 3-5 hours a day, sometimes even less. Few times I couldn't fall asleep for 2-3 days and then slept for whole day 😅 But otherwise I function relatively normally Second is Hybernation - I'm able to sleep even up to 16-18 hours a day and feel always sleepy, still am able to function if I don't have busy schedule.. I've had it like this since elementary school, now I'm in college.. ppl are always horrified, when I tell them about my sleep schedule 🥲
I watch these vids when I feel at my lowest. This channel has helped me through some rough times. Also the person narrating these has a very relaxing comforting voice. Thank you Psych2Go for making me feel less alone in this world ❤️
Like many others night owls have said, I like being up at night because I'm not bound to be interrupted from whatever I'm doing by anybody. Additionally, it means I don't have to deal with the cold mornings to the same degree, instead asleep in a warm bed at those times. Unfortunately it means I don't experience as many hours of sunlight...
The part about night owls doing poorly academically in spite of their statistically high intelligence, likely because grade school classes take place during the day, hit me where I live. Taking tests used to make me so nervous for no reason I could see; but once I got into online college and could do my work on my own time, that nervousness went away. I just FEEL so much more confident in my academics, and I think the work I produce is genuinely better, too.
The problem I run into as someone who naturally wants to stay up and wake up late is that nights are difficult. I always get so sad at night and it just highlights how alone I feel and am. It's as if everything I've been trying to avoid gets the spotlight when the sun is down and all I can do is wait until my sleep med kicks in. It's been slow to work recently though, and now that it gets darker sooner these painful feelings just last longer. So overall, very frustrating
I get that, I usually hang around my friends all day and can function just find without them, but if I go without them for a couple hours when gaming alone, I end up feeling really lonely and depressed. Next thing I know I'm blabbing on about one of the things that's got me down to my friend. It's not like my friends aren't night owls too, it's just that they actually have lives outside of gaming, they go outside and do things (even if some of them don't want to) and some even have a SO. They end up going to bed much earlier then I do (around 12-3am) and I just sit there and try and find out what I'm gonna do since I'm not tired and don't have any sleep meds, so I cant sleep until I'm tired.
I'm a night owl, and I get that the quiet nighttime is when your mind wanders (usually to the bad directions) especially when you are depressed. Since I'm not tied to any work schedule, the way I did it was to simply have fun whenever I'm depressed. Be it at 1 am in the morning or 3 am, just get up from bed and play some games, watch a movie, read a book, whatever your hobby is. Fatigue will naturally set in your body and that's a good time to fall asleep. I know this advice might not work on everyone especially if you're working in the morning, but you can try it out during weekends or holidays, or even by taking a paid leave if necessary.
The best way to avoid getting depressed when you're alone is find something to do that you can only do alone, something creative, a project of some kind.
You should keep a notebook or sketchbook by your bed to write or/and draw in at night. You can write down what your worried about, or what makes you happy, or whatever! It doesn't even have to be anything amazing or specific. You could just doodle in it whenever you feel this way. That's what I do and it helps clear my mind. It's like transferring all my thoughts into the book so I don't have to worry about them anymore😊 I hope this helps!
I wake up terribly and need like five alarms but after that, I'm pretty energized. I honestly have a easier time waking up at 4:00 am to catch a plane than waking up for school. I don't know why though. I'm in highschool, so if I have school that day my energy slowly drains away. It immediately goes half way down from all the noise and stress on my bus, then slowly drains till lunch were I eat, feel more energized, but at the same time I usually have a headache or just this feeling that my head is full to the brim of things. Like when you eat too much, but in your brain. I then rush through my afternoon classes, spacing out for most of them. After that, I take two hours after school to recharge in which I become very active, then I usually do swimming afterwards and go home, eat, do my homework, and take an hour to fall asleap. Yah, I have no Idea what I fit in 😅
I had bad insomnia to the point of hallucinations and near sickness, doctor refused sleep study recommended by therapist, still tired, but now active at night
And here I am watching this and being proud of myself for being a night owl.. 'cause I'm actually awake studying for my test... haha night owls are last minute workers too.. Not to mention , I actually stayed up studying and did my exam , came back home and then had a good sleep ..Studying late night actually works .. 😇
I prefer to be an afternooner/night owl, but I currently work a 9-5. I have a pretty regular sleep schedule, but I have the ability to adjust it easily (as long as it doesn't involve waking up earlier 😋)
Same here. I prefer to sleep in later and to wake up later. I have a 9-5 and really dont have much energy until after lunch. One thing I really despise is the time change in the spring. For the afternooners and night owls, the last thing I want is to be forced to wake up an entire hour earlier.
I am an early bird by nature and I wake up early even in the summer without any alarm, it's because I have a light sleep which means that any sound I hear can make me wake up even if it is just a fly. This is a wonderful video I absolutely loved it.
I often listen to music during day and night while commuting to school or behind my desk in my room. It tends to be that the night is much more quiet so, I'm able to concentrate more on that one thing(ex. the music) as there aren't much interruptions in information which are much more frequent in the day. Ig this is also why I really don't like it when my parents wake up in the middle of the night and come to my room for some reason. Just too much interruption there.
I'm a mixture of early bird and night owl. Used to be the latter but the older I get the easier it is to wake up early 😊 But there is no consistant schedule sometimes I can go to bed at 9:30pm and sometimes 1:30am but lately (for the past 6-8 months I'd say) it is usually between 10:30pm - midnight. Then sleep 4-9 hours depending of many things so there is a lot of variety 🙂
This sounds a lot like me. I used to stay up till 2-3am every night, but most times now I go to bed between 11pm and 1am. Most days I wake up around 6:30 but occasionally I sleep in till about 9.
even though most people i know are early birds, i'm a night owl myself. like, the ideas just flood my mind at about 1am and i honestly really enjoy being like this. only downside is that i usually wake up at 12pm or so, but that's kinda perfect because my duties take place during the night, from like 6pm to 11pm. after that, i feel pretty relaxed just by getting home and drawing or playing games or listening to music. i tried being an early bird once, but my body just can't handle it and i don't get enough sleep by doing so for some reason, usually waking up at 3 when it happens, so that's why being a night owl is waaaay more convenient - v - also, thank you for the video ^^ i love your content :D
My day depends of the day of the week 😅 for example a normal Monday for me looks like this : Wake up : 5:00 am Think of my life: 5:05 am Brush teeth and wash face : 5:10 am Change: 5:20 am (usually already have my clothes ready since the day before) Read: 5: 25 am (News, a book I just started, recipes, biographies, etc.) Get ready for school : 5:50 am (Notes, pencils, highlighters, and everything else) Turn on TV: 6:00 am Breakfast: 6:05 am - 6:30 am (Depends if I cook or just eat cereal) :| Log into school : 6: 40 am School Morning: 7:30 am - 10:30 am (start of first class) Lunch: 10: 35 am - 11:10 am Home : 11:20 am Nap: 11:30 am - 12:30 pm Brush teeth: 12:35 pm School afternoon: 12:40 pm - 2:30 pm Cook or think of what to eat: 2:30 p - 3:00 pm Clean: 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm Actually eat dinner that I made: 4:00 pm - 4:30 pm (I don't know why I do this 😑) Wash dishes : 4:35 pm - 4:45 pm Watch TV: 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm Shower: 8:00 pm - 8:40 pm Get the random inspiration of doing crafts: 8:45 pm - 9:50 pm (Between this time I switch from crocheting to threading to gem placing to painting or just sewing) Do homework and class work: 9:50 - 10:30 Wash face and brush teeth : 10:30 - 10:35 Read or listen to random music: 10:35 - 10:45 Dance in the middle of the night: 10:45 - 11:00 Sleep: 11:00 Then wake up again at 5:00 am I don't know how I am still alive 😅
I love that you stated that it's like the social mental and genetic part of you that makes your schedule. I am a morning person I love waking up very early 5 o'clock 4 o'clock in the morning and love waking up but when I am very stressed out I am an insomniac and I can't sleep. Ever and I get nothing done throughout the day. The sad part is that I can feel my normal morning's encouragement and motivation slipping through my fingers as I either sleep or I'm still awake because I haven't slept yet Slipping past me and I get nothing done and I feel like crusty mildering installation. But also ironically I am very artistic and some of my best paintings and written chapters for my books has happened in the middle of the night so I'm always very conflicted about my sleep schedule but I've noticed that my sleep schedule when I'm very calm and happy can fluctuate with what project I'm working on because some of my really beautiful earthy paintings wanna be painted in morning light wear some of my stories and chapters want to be discovered in the dark of the night.
Well, if Dr. appointments and stores were open at 2 in the morning, then Night owls could keep to their best schedule and not have to force themselves to be awake when they want to be asleep. Force a Lark to be busy from 11pm to 6 am and see how well they do. A night owl is more productive then.
I have tried to be a morning person for like 20 years lol so whenever I read or hear that you can train yourself - nah. I think it just becomes a part of who you are and you have to embrace it. I worked a corporate job for 10 years. I had to force myself to wake up but I would still go to bed by like 2-3am. Now I work for myself and I set my own schedule. Also, I’m much happier as an introvert having time for myself instead of forcing myself to chit chat every day with coworkers who’s values and hobbies don’t even match up with things I care about. This whole societal norm of being a morning person so you can socialize and be “happier” is total bullshit. Be a night person and meet other like minded night people. You’ll be just as happy.
Some observations about environmental factors, from a morning lark: - sunlight plays a big role on my brain being awake, I've noticed that I'm most active during the summer (even though it's always hot) because there's so much daylight - during the winter, or on gloomy/rainy days in general, I feel like I fit the woodcock type more.. it's hard to get out of bed and it's hard to focus and work with artificial light - when I was in Japan during a summer vacation, the sun rose suuuper early, like at 4/5 am, and I've never been awake around that time! but I found it so easy to wake up and go about my business because konbini are open 24/7 and I could just get a quick breakfast and take a walk until tourist attractions opened up - about Japan still, even though I walked/took public transport a lot, I found myself rarely out of energy! and after the sun set, it was easy to fall asleep, whereas back home I always have trouble sleeping early - still about Japan! my sister who lives there did tell me that people in general tend to live a bit early than in our country, as in they have lunch by 12pm and dinner at about 6pm? idk if it's different anywhere else, but that's super early for me, could it have anything to do with the daylight again?
I think I'm a night owl because I go to bed every night around 12:00 - 2:00. But it's weird because when I get more sleep I feel more tired, but when I get 2 - 4 hours of sleep I feel rly energized
Having ADHD seems to have auto-put me in the night owl category. While getting up early feels amazing because I have a lot of day time, I can't seem to be able to fall into bed before 2am usually, which makes it very hard to get up before 9 or 10am.
And being a night owl/late sleeper that’s also productive in the morning is super annoying, because my sleep schedule is literally in the middle of the time I’m most productive 😓 I have to drag myself out of bed, extremely tired and try to get things done. But when I can’t get myself out of bed I miss that productive window and the rest of the day is just unmotivated, tired laziness
I would love to learn more about the Woodcock and Napper sleep schedule if you have anymore videos on it! I have never heard the term Woodcock for sleeping so sounds fascinating.
“…night owls perform poorly academically…” I remember way before when I was in middle school, I would get like only 2 hours of sleep because of me studying until 4am for days. Surprisingly and fortunately, I would always pass my exams with good scores! I think it just depends on your brain; my brain is…interesting. I love the video though!! Thank you so much ❤️
I’m definitely a night owl type as I tend to stay up late like 2am on work days but on days off then maybe longer at night. As I have a hard time getting up in the mid morning and get going for work. Thanks for your video.
Hey, Psych2Go! I'm a new subscriber, these past few months, I've been feeling like I'm not hungry, I feeling like I have a lot of stress, I would force myself to finish my assignments before school ends, even I know that I can do it at home, not really sure why I would do this, and if I'm not able to finish it before school ends, I would kind of start panicking, feeling very stressed. Sometimes, I would feel like I'm always peoples' second choices, I would feel that I'm nothing, sometimes I would just be happy thinking nothing could go wrong. Most of the times, I would feel like I'm not tired, I would sleep very late at night and sleep till around 10-11am, or I would sleep at 10pm and also wake up at 10-11am. No, I don't lose interest in the things I would do in the past. But I feel like I'm a very sensitive person, a person that can't really control my emotions. I know this is a very long comment, but I would like to ask, *Is it just me or is my mental health getting worse? Or do I have anxiety or depression?* I'm sorry for this long comment, I don't really know if you know if I have depression or anything, but if you could give me an answer, or at least let me know if something's wrong, I would really appreciate it, thank you, hope you have a nice day! ❤🙏
So like IK you asked for psych2go’s opinion, but I think that you may have some minor anxiety. If you self harm, or consider suicide, the problem is serious. Also psych2go has a few videos covering anxiety and depression. However, the simple fact that you posted this comment shows that you are not beyond hope. Hope this helps ig, bc I’m not psych2go and my advice prob isn’t as good, bc I’m not a professional either.
@@hihoyo37 I haven't gone to sleep, just finished some classes, and I'm not sure if I actually have anxiety or depression. My parents just think that it's just minor stress and I'd feel better tomorrow. I've been trying to have hope in myself and have tried to ignore my feelings and just be my happy self since I don't know what else to do. But I would like to thank you for replying me, even you're not a professional or Pysch2Go, thank you for having the effort to reply me.
I'm definitely a night owl. I just function better at night and I have a hard time falling asleep at night. I usually fall asleep between 4am and 7am and wake up around 1pm - 3pm. I can wake earlier if I need to for an appointment, but then I start feeling ill after a few hours if my pattern was disrupted. I like the night better because no one calls or text me, my neighbours are all in their apartments, the people in the apartment above me isn't walking all over their apartment, the homeless in the ally aren't yelling who knows what at who knows who. It's just peaceful at night. My anxiety is better at night in most cases and it's easier for my ADD to focus. I do most of my arts and writing at night, like 90%. Sometimes I wish I was a morning lark so I could be more normal so it would be easier to make appointments. Night owls unite...but in their own homes being quiet and creative...lol.
I was a Night Owl for a really long period of life, but trained myself to be a Morning Lark. This was interesting because I notice things that carried over from being a Night Owl earlier in life, and also things that developed by becoming a Morning Lark (esp memory/retention decline 😅😂)
@@itsjesshere14p58a night owl here, but the most SIMPLE tip is having a routine. Sleep at a certain time and wake up at a certain time. Your body will adjust your circadian rhythm to that sleep schedule. Make sure you eat healthy, have balanced meals (that means adjusting your meals, so you don’t become deficient and/or accumulate toxicity due to over-consuming one or more vitamins). Just make sure you are getting the right AMOUNT OF daily nutrients (note down daily nutrients and review it weekly)
I don't really consider myself a napper however, I am a little bit of a napper and a night owl. Going by what you said in this video it feels like to me morning people are more extroverted and night owls are more introverted I could be wrong but that's just what it feels like to me.
I'm a night owl and always have been, but had the interesting experience of being a day lark during a 2 week trip to Australia (opposite hours). Made me wonder, if I moved to Australia, would my sleep patterns gradually adjust until I was a night owl again?
Well, I guess Psych2Go can read my mind now. I was really in the mood for a video about sleep. What makes it even funnier is the fact that I should be asleep right now. Thanks for all the hard work to get videos out! I find it calming and relaxing to end my day with a bit of psychology from Psych2Go. Once again, thank you for all the hard work!!
I'm a night owl and prefer evening shifts, but I have to wake up early to work morning shifts now.... It's really hard waking up every morning, but gotta pay the bills
I feel like I'm a stress-induced night owl, which idk if that means I'm not naturally a night owl. I stay up late because I procrastinate from stress and end up doing my schoolwork late, but I'd probably be happier if I operated like an early bird😢
I switch a lot between schedules, but when I switch I keep it for good 2/3 months. But I did an experiment in the summer vacation 2 years in a row, and I noticed I'm fully awake and productive between 7pm and 11 am. I feel well rested and are able to wake up easier at 7pm, but I can't use that schedule in an average day life. So I try to be productive in the morning, drag myself in the middle of the day, and be productive again in the evening! Luckily my classes are in the middle of the day, so I won't use alit of energy then.
meanwhile, me who does everything at night and wake up at 6 am for school :: ) Also me who goes to bed at 5 am during holidays and wakes up at 10 am max so I don't miss out the sunny parts of the day :'D
I was told I'd become a morning lark as I got older. This was incorrect, mornings have become even worse with age. I had a meeting at 9am this morning and they asked how I was, and I could barely string a coherent sentence together because I'm not used to having to "people" that early 🤣
It’s 2:50 am as I write this comment. I’m a night owl, and always have been. I absolutely hate our 8:30 am meetings! Don’t want to be around people, much less talk to them at that time of day!!!
I just want alone time to relax because my family has no boundaries and will bother me at any second of the day when they’re awake. They don’t bother me when I’m sleeping (most of the time). So, being a night owl helps me live the life I want, and I still see them and can help with their several requests during the early hours of the day.😊
I'm definitely a night owl, I've always had a hard time falling asleep ever since I was little and up til now it still takes me about 1-2 back in time it where 3 hours to fall asleeep and as soon as it's weekend my sleeping rythem instantly snaps back to staying up late and sleeping in cuz night is the time I get most active, study, do skincare, when my mum isn't at home I suddenly am motivated and clean our whole apartment at like 1am, rn it's 4:18am on a Sunday morning and I love the feeling of knowing I have the whole night to myself because everyone else is asleep
I go to sleep late and wake up early. I feel the most prodactive around 2-5pm but I'm also quite effective on 9 and 10 am. I'm absolutely useless after 7pm but the hour of the day I like the most is midnight, even though night time is when I'm the most sad because all the thoughts from the day are running in my head
Great video! A follow-up about sentinel theory would be cool. It's how I internally rationalize my... hmm, nonstandard sleep habits. So it'd be good to know if the consensus is that it's bunk. Also, my take on this video will be maximally influenced by confirmation bias, but as a full night owl I feel unreasonably vindicated watching this. It is so hard to be a night owl in society. Capable people should not be defined by whether they default to waking up before 6am... This is a uselessly small sample size, but I work at NASA, and basically everyone in my group has a phd, and we're almost all night owls. And also, most of my friends in grad school were also night owls (though maybe that's because it's easier for me to be friends with other night owls? Idk). So it's always annoyed me that industry and govt and really just society in general so completely cater to larks. Also, also: the narrators voice in this video is outstanding. Something about it reminds me of the AI Samantha from the movie Her.
I’ve always thought of myself as a morning lark, but you mentioned the napper. I’ve always needed a 30-45 minute nap halfway through the day at around 1:00PM since middle school. What does it mean to be a napper? And should I allow this? For the past 4 years I’ve been drinking coffee because I kept getting in trouble at work for napping, but since then I’ve always been groggy with less energy and bags under my eyes no matter how long I sleep at night. It could also be caused by a potential lack of deep sleep since I live in a city now with all the lights and noises.
I'm a night owl for sure. though maybe a woodcock right now because I havent been able to adjust to the "normal" early bird schedule that I've been living for like 6 months now. I like being able to wake up naturally an laze around for a bit before starting to work and do things. I know that in order for me to have the most productive work day, I should wake up a 5 so I can get in my work out, dog walk, shower, and breakfast. I just cannot force myself to do that for more than 3 days in a row. I know that I should go to bed at like 10, but lately ive been tossing and turning until 4am or just get hyperfocused into something and all of a sudden its 2 am. The time change and it being too dark to walk my dog through the park after work is really ruining me too, as i didn't feel bad if I slept in, knowing that I could still take the 2 mile walk after work, but now I don't feel safe doing that.
Are you a early bird or night owl?
Night owl
Night owl 😓
Early bird
Night owl
Night owl definitely for sure!!
For people confused as how night owls do it:
It’s just at night, we tend to be more relaxed and creative because our daily duties are done.
Plus: 2am thoughts do be wildin so it’s an experience HAHAHA
Reply about why you like working better at night down below to see what else i missed, this is personally from my experience
Less light (I'm not a big fan sunlight sneak into my room for the whole time) and my room temperature is low (especially rainy day). This time nobody distrubs you to do whatever you wanted and needed.
For sure, free time without feeling guilty about not doing work or not giving your time to someone else
Everything is asleep so the only thing that can distract you are the hallucinations. Anyway what's your weirdest 2AM thought? Mine was probably the time I spent 20 minutes having an argument with myself over why grilled cheese is called grilled cheese and not a toasted cheese sandwich.
I am a night owl 🦉 I do agree about 2am thing 😅
Less light, less movement of people /social disturbances and like OP said most of the tedious things are usually out of the way. I'm not sure why but some reason my brain feels way more efficient at like 10-11pm and onwards when studying/essay writing. Also a personal thing but I really dislike sleep and I don't feel tired until 3am ish
I dont sleep at all, two nights in a row, and then oversleep the next, literally zero sleep. Or my sleep schedule is literally all over the place
[EDIT] JESUS EVERYONE! Thank you so MUCH for the support on this one singular comment I made a year ago! I really appreciate everything you've all said and the advice you've given me! Thank you so much! And btw, I have improved, and my sleep schedule has gotten better, I do have better control over it. Thank you, I wish you all the best!
Oh no.. has your schedule always been like this?

How did you manage to function through the whole day with 4 hours of sleep? I've done it before but sometimes it's kinda difficult.
I can wake up early, when I have to get ready for something specific, but I tend to get sleepy later on in the day.
this this this! i love having the night to myself. i love having the freedom to do what i want because everyone else is asleep
my parents : Getting up late is bad for health
me constantly getting up late : That's my schedule
Yeah same
yup, I'm a night Owl as well(4 am atleast) thought I've a constant fight with my parents about it since I sleep till 11 am them but Like I finish all my lectures and work in the Quite and cozy atmosphere of the night so why shouldn't I.
This could be written by me, lol
I’m a night owl and an art student (3D modelling student) so that statistic about art students is spot on. I feel the most productive and get random burst of productivity sometimes at 12am or 2am
Are u muslim
This. Exactly the same with me.
Me too. I’m an art teacher. Have a BFA. I love being alone at night and just creating.

I sometimes go to bed at 11 am and wake up around 5-6 pm to get my day started, I love it. I tend to be more active at night. 💓
Same all around.
4-5 AM, 2-3 sometimes 4pm wake up but i just cant get myself up
I am a night owl, have always been.
My boss told me the same thing a few months ago. Now, my last day in the corporate world is less than two weeks away.
i felt like I’m a morning lark, napper, and a night owl all combined.
Same here
I’m definitely a night owl, but there are what I call “early bird cycles” where I find myself sleeping at or before midnight and/or sleeping late and waking up early.
But I have an early riser job so I'm always dead tired during the day until the sun sets, then I suddenly have energy and can't sleep.
yup thats relatable
Hello there. I’m a night owl by accident after 5 years of poor sleep habits and staying up later and later. I now usually fall asleep around 3AM to 5AM and wake up between 11AM and 2PM.
It certainly helps that at my last few jobs I’m ALWAYS the evening shift cuz no one else can or wants to
work closing shifts.
How often do your sleeping schedule change? Do you notice anything different when it does change?
I *did* notice that 4am wake up felt really good though, but maybe that was because my dog always wanted a 4am walk and we would go see the sunrise every morning lol
My sleep ritual also takes 3 hours, so I start that at whatever time will give me 8 hours with a 1-2 hour insomnia buffer
I've suffered from debilitating insomnia for most of my life, so sleep has become part science for me 😅🙃
THIS IS LITERALLY ME OMG
You and I almost like, except I have no pet, I only need 5 hours of sleep instead of a 8 hours unless others
It is also interesting how pain, anxiety, depression and even the weather can impact circadian rhythms and sleep quality
As a night owl I found a perect routine for me is to go to sleep as early as I can and wake up as early as I can because I used to sleep like 3-4h before TT
Lemme explain: What I love about staying up is the calmness, darkness and just the quiet, comforting atmosphere sooo to be able to experience that and still lead a normal, healthy life (mainly get thay 8h of sleep and be able to do my day to day tasks) I tend to go to sleep around 9 pm and wake up at 5 am when everything is still quiet and calm~
So you get to sleep 8 hours, get that quiet night vibes and still get everything done during the day!
@@cerebrummaximus3762 it would be ideal because if you wake up really early you can let yourself lay in the bed longer, make a coffee, just chill for a while and enjoy the ongoing night and still have time to be productive
All you do is mirror the routine, instead of waking up late and going to sleep late, you can wake up early and go to sleep early so you experience: Night=>day instead of Day=>Night
I'm just sharing what helped me to make a productive schedule to, as a night owl, enjoy the night, have a healthy routine and be more productive.

@@prototypex8217 Yes, exactly this!!
Even so, I still prefer to just do work and clock out. If there is nothing to do, then and only then, I’ll chat with my fellow introverts
I’m very annoyingly only a night owl. I can make myself sleep and go to bed early successfully for like two nights before my body naturally returns to the midnight shift. Worst of all is that I’ve been like this since I was like five and it’s been such a difficult thing to deal with…
I am *EVERYTHING!* I am a morning lark, a night owl, a napper, a woodcock, and swift. It just depends on the day
for me, it's weird, i used to wake up normally around 6:45 am to around 7:00 am, but then in a quick period of time i started waking up at 8:00 am, and now around 9:00 am. I usually go to sleep around 10:30 pm. I prefer waking up at 7:00 am tbh though. maybe the sudden waking up later is because i got darker curtains, because i got tired of waking up so early. maybe i can use an alarm to go back to waking up around maybe 7:30 am? (context for waking up so late: I do homeschool. not religous homeschool though, i still learn at a normal pace)
your time you want to sleep changes through age you can research this if you want
That's not late, I often end up sleeping to like 1 pm if I don't hear my alarm
And I'm not homeschooled
@@Sorarep yeah, I just realized it a few days ago that my sleep schedule is so different from what it was before xD
Wow that's nice
Two pronged problem :)
The world really should run in a split lifestyle, would be quite interesting to see this happen, more ultraviolet lights after 9pm, more businesses to have day and night shifts (I am talking big businesses, ones that normally only have a 9-5).
Also I didn’t know I was replying to a comment, I thought I was making a comment… oh well 🙃
@@Milky_mans And I thougth my 3 to 11 am schedule was fucked up 😂
What I do is wake up super early (at 5), go through school, take a 2-3 hour nap around 3 or 4 and then stay up until 1.
We just don't have that use or recognition of importance anymore ):
I will say though that I am EXTREMELY excited for the research into orexin antagonists going on - it's a whole new world for us, and there might be hope in a year or two! for a more socially acceptable schedule.
I have two phases that switch quite randomly. They can switch in days or months.
First is Insomniac - I sleep max 3-5 hours a day, sometimes even less. Few times I couldn't fall asleep for 2-3 days and then slept for whole day 😅 But otherwise I function relatively normally
Second is Hybernation - I'm able to sleep even up to 16-18 hours a day and feel always sleepy, still am able to function if I don't have busy schedule..
I've had it like this since elementary school, now I'm in college.. ppl are always horrified, when I tell them about my sleep schedule 🥲
I would have loved to hear more about the other sleep types. Especially about nappers.
Same! Maybe they will cover that in the next video?
I watch these vids when I feel at my lowest. This channel has helped me through some rough times. Also the person narrating these has a very relaxing comforting voice. Thank you Psych2Go for making me feel less alone in this world ❤️
You’re not alone Josh! I hope you get to find cool things everyday and be happier.

@@catcocomics1601 Ooh, doing something productive... literally.
Yah, I have no Idea what I fit in 😅
I think it's because of a sense of urgency that school doesn't give
Your voice is so soothing I could fall asleep watching these videos 🥰

Used to be the latter but the older I get the easier it is to wake up early 😊
But there is no consistant schedule sometimes I can go to bed at 9:30pm and sometimes 1:30am but lately (for the past 6-8 months I'd say) it is usually between 10:30pm - midnight. Then sleep 4-9 hours depending of many things so there is a lot of variety 🙂
This sounds a lot like me. I used to stay up till 2-3am every night, but most times now I go to bed between 11pm and 1am. Most days I wake up around 6:30 but occasionally I sleep in till about 9.
even though most people i know are early birds, i'm a night owl myself. like, the ideas just flood my mind at about 1am and i honestly really enjoy being like this. only downside is that i usually wake up at 12pm or so, but that's kinda perfect because my duties take place during the night, from like 6pm to 11pm. after that, i feel pretty relaxed just by getting home and drawing or playing games or listening to music. i tried being an early bird once, but my body just can't handle it and i don't get enough sleep by doing so for some reason, usually waking up at 3 when it happens, so that's why being a night owl is waaaay more convenient - v -
also, thank you for the video ^^

I am a night owl.
Being a Night owl is such a interesting thing.
Thanks for posting this!!!
I'm a night owl, I love the hours between like 12-4 am, they're so peaceful bc nobody needs anything from you during those hours.
Some observations about environmental factors, from a morning lark:
- sunlight plays a big role on my brain being awake, I've noticed that I'm most active during the summer (even though it's always hot) because there's so much daylight
- during the winter, or on gloomy/rainy days in general, I feel like I fit the woodcock type more.. it's hard to get out of bed and it's hard to focus and work with artificial light
- when I was in Japan during a summer vacation, the sun rose suuuper early, like at 4/5 am, and I've never been awake around that time! but I found it so easy to wake up and go about my business because konbini are open 24/7 and I could just get a quick breakfast and take a walk until tourist attractions opened up
- about Japan still, even though I walked/took public transport a lot, I found myself rarely out of energy! and after the sun set, it was easy to fall asleep, whereas back home I always have trouble sleeping early
- still about Japan! my sister who lives there did tell me that people in general tend to live a bit early than in our country, as in they have lunch by 12pm and dinner at about 6pm? idk if it's different anywhere else, but that's super early for me, could it have anything to do with the daylight again?
I’m a night owl, and you described me.
Wow, i had no idea ADHD was also tied to being a night owl! Since i also have ADHD and I'm a night owl, i can confirm this.
I have ADHD as well and am also a Night Owl.
You're right! There could be a link between ADHD and being a night owl.
@@Psych2gomake a video on that please. I have adhd and am a night owl too.
Straight honest, my sleeping chedule is all over the place because traveling and friends from other countries.
I'm chronically fatigued all the time no matter how much I sleep, but when I do get to sleep I stay awake from midday to 4-5 am.
“…night owls perform poorly academically…”
I remember way before when I was in middle school, I would get like only 2 hours of sleep because of me studying until 4am for days. Surprisingly and fortunately, I would always pass my exams with good scores! I think it just depends on your brain; my brain is…interesting.
I love the video though!! Thank you so much ❤️
i’m not a mix of both i am both i go to sleep at 11-3 and wake up 5-7 i feel refreshed and always ready for the day so i think i’m doing great :)
I'd like to say.. ur voice is soothing
I’m definitely a night owl type as I tend to stay up late like 2am on work days but on days off then maybe longer at night. As I have a hard time getting up in the mid morning and get going for work. Thanks for your video.
I am such a night owl lmao. In fact, I’m watching this at 1:17 am, and on weekends, I fall asleep at 3
Hey, Psych2Go! I know this is a very long comment, but I would like to ask,
*Is it just me or is my mental health getting worse? Or do I have anxiety or depression?*
I'm sorry for this long comment, I don't really know if you know if I have depression or anything, but if you could give me an answer, or at least let me know if something's wrong, I would really appreciate it, thank you, hope you have a nice day!
Plz read this comment… or have you gone to sleep
I’ve found more joy in acknowledging my body’s nocturnal needs and adjusting my schedule accordingly. 😸
I was a Night Owl for a really long period of life, but trained myself to be a Morning Lark. This was interesting because I notice things that carried over from being a Night Owl earlier in life, and also things that developed by becoming a Morning Lark (esp memory/retention decline 😅😂)
I'm currently a night owl, and need to be a morning lark, any tips on how to get there?
@@itsjesshere14p58a night owl here, but the most SIMPLE tip is having a routine. Sleep at a certain time and wake up at a certain time. Your body will adjust your circadian rhythm to that sleep schedule.
Make sure you eat healthy, have balanced meals (that means adjusting your meals, so you don’t become deficient and/or accumulate toxicity due to over-consuming one or more vitamins).
Just make sure you are getting the right AMOUNT OF daily nutrients (note down daily nutrients and review it weekly)
@@casualamber wow, this is actually super helpful, thank you Amber!
I don't really consider myself a napper however, I am a little bit of a napper and a night owl. Going by what you said in this video it feels like to me morning people are more extroverted and night owls are more introverted I could be wrong but that's just what it feels like to me.
Same
I'm a night owl and always have been, but had the interesting experience of being a day lark during a 2 week trip to Australia (opposite hours). Made me wonder, if I moved to Australia, would my sleep patterns gradually adjust until I was a night owl again?
No offence but most ppl hv no idea how beautiful the darkness of a night is .. we, night lovers just find a way through the darkness always ✨
I'm a mix of a night owl and a woodcock. Its conflicting hard with my job, which usually happens during the morning.
Night owl by nature, but my work forces me to become a morning lark. Now I feel more like a woodcock. 😓
meanwhile, me who does everything at night and wake up at 6 am for school :: )
Also me who goes to bed at 5 am during holidays and wakes up at 10 am max so I don't miss out the sunny parts of the day :'D
Cool I fall asleep to your videos every night ty for everything you did for us
I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing but as long as you are getting your sleep!!
@@Psych2go it's a good thing!
I wake up super early in the morning when its still dark so I can watch youtube in peace. It's a nice feeling.
