They would try everything to pass them. If anything passed them, they would get uncomfortable. Since speed of light is faster then their auto, it makes it difficult for them to pass the light rays of their own headlights. I could come up with two reasons. 2nd one is more convincing than the first. Firstly being headlight would consume more battery which would make the auto slow. Secondly, headlights produce heat, heat expands stuff so switching on the headlight would technically make the auto larger which would prevent them from going in narrow spaces. This is the actual reason why they do not switch on their headlight.

my theory is that the headlights of autos are maybe too underpower to be used for the likes of the well lit mumbai roads. like all the autos ive been on have this weird pattern of getting dim when the auto rpm is low and stuff.
I remembered my father's Bajaj M80 and later Bajaj CT100. Both had AC headlamp system and the light would fluctuate at low engine RPM. Older autorickshaws also had the same system. This made riding broken village roads at night a challenge. We would usually carry an extra torch for such jaunts. At one time we even had the famous Krushak torch too.
@@aurora3916The reason behind this is because the lights of some autos, scooters, old cars etc are connected to the alternator (a device which produces electical power from mechanical power, used in vehicles for charging back the battery) for power and alternator produces power based on the engine rpm (as it runs from the enigne), so at low rpm, the power produced is low and inconsistent and the lights struggles to be lit. In newer vehicles, the light takes power from battery, which is a consistent source and hence doesn't flicker. LED lights are always powered by battery whereas halogens are usually connected to alternator but can be connected to batteries.

Well according to roads being so lit up with car lights the auto drivers deliberately don't switch on their headlights ,as there are solar panels in headlights which absorbs the lights coming from cars and then using it for air conditioners situated near their legs ,as their legs can get very sweaty due to heat . ok!! let me explain, POV of an Electrical Engineering student, Short Ans: Due to winter explanation: Due to low temperature in winter the Auto's Battery has to give huge amount of energy to start and heat up the Engine, that required multiple attempts of quick/self/power start in the morning. so, to save that power in battery, they purposely switch off the headlights as it has Halogen bulbs, that are a type of incandescent which consume more power that LED, so by saving the power on headlight to use the power in the morning to quick start the engine.
BONUS- Well there is a rumor in Mumbai that whenever the moon is bright (purnima), the devils look for autorickshaws with their headlights on as they want some mode of transport in hell. Obviously they would be looking for good drivers who always keep their headlights on. But fortunately our gods have already informed about this to auto drivers in their dreams. Only reason I can think of is that they keep the headlights off to save fuel? Could be completely wrong but I do think that maybe it saves a bit of fuel? Still doesn’t make sense because the headlights are given power by the battery which is then charged by the alternator which moves when the engine moves (or rotates) which uses fuel so to save that bit of fuel , maybe they have the headlights off?

Being a transportation designer, i can say for sure that the designer at the studio was an intern and he didn't think about they think about the functionality part of headlights. Hence the headlights given are only for the aesthetic purpose and if u need one lamp, you gotta purchase it from the association on a lucky draw basis.

I remembered my father's Bajaj M80 and later Bajaj CT100. Both had AC headlamp system and the light would fluctuate at low engine RPM. Older autorickshaws also had the same system. This made riding broken village roads at night a challenge. We would usually carry an extra torch for such jaunts. At one time we even had the famous Krushak torch too.

@@aurora3916The reason behind this is because the lights of some autos, scooters, old cars etc are connected to the alternator (a device which produces electical power from mechanical power, used in vehicles for charging back the battery) for power and alternator produces power based on the engine rpm (as it runs from the enigne), so at low rpm, the power produced is low and inconsistent and the lights struggles to be lit. In newer vehicles, the light takes power from battery, which is a consistent source and hence doesn't flicker. LED lights are always powered by battery whereas halogens are usually connected to alternator but can be connected to batteries.

Well according to roads being so lit up with car lights the auto drivers deliberately don't switch on their headlights ,as there are solar panels in headlights which absorbs the lights coming from cars and then using it for air conditioners situated near their legs ,as their legs can get very sweaty due to heat . Due to low temperature in winter the Auto's Battery has to give huge amount of energy to start and heat up the Engine, that required multiple attempts of quick/self/power start in the morning. so, to save that power in battery, they purposely switch off the headlights as it has Halogen bulbs, that are a type of incandescent which consume more power that LED, so by saving the power on headlight to use the power in the morning to quick start the engine.

Only reason I can think of is that they keep the headlights off to save fuel? Could be completely wrong but I do think that maybe it saves a bit of fuel? Still doesn’t make sense because the headlights are given power by the battery which is then charged by the alternator which moves when the engine moves (or rotates) which uses fuel so to save that bit of fuel , maybe they have the headlights off?

Being a transportation designer, i can say for sure that the designer at the studio was an intern and he didn't think about they think about the functionality part of headlights. Hence the headlights given are only for the aesthetic purpose and if u need one lamp, you gotta purchase it from the association on a lucky draw basis.
