You remind me how safe it is here in Australia, ( with no bears, no nasty animals that think we are an item of their diet), last night in the middle of nowhere in the Snowy Mountains,(1 month too early for snow); I had my head out the tent watching the milky way slowly turning then suddenly snaaaaaaarl !
It was only a harmless possum but I jumped out of my skin for a second and thought of how lucky we are here with no carnivorous man eating monsters around.
Love the sound of creeks and rivers at night when their flow varies and gets quieter, then louder, ....when you put your hand into the creek water it occurred to me (cause I thought you'd take a drink) that their could be a dozen exotic farm chemicals in that drink. Is there a water testing kit around to use to see what's in our creeks and rivers? Not just purification products that turn yucky into yummy but analysis so you know what you are drinking or just washing up in.?????????

    • @FTAAdventures

I haven't looked into any water testing kits, but that is a great idea. I will have to look into that. THanks!

Great show Tim, Ive been using my jetboil for ten yrs now. All I ever put in it is water. U dont need that glowing orange thing on the side. There's so much steam coming out of the top, u know when its done.

Warning: I love my Jet Boil, but only for water. I once tried to make soup in it and it boiled so fast, the scalding soup was spewing out of the top like a volcano, all over me and my gear. Lol - only made that miatake once. I also tried to cook pancakes on a skillet over tge burner and it scorched the non-stick off the pan. So, now I use it strictly to boil water for coffee and freeze dry meals and I love it for that. Plus no cleanup. Also, putting the silicone cup back under the burner will prevent melting your panniers or burning your fingers. Another great video.

Well... you made me do it... got the JetBoil and some 110g fuel bottles... getting ready for my first long trip on my bike... we are heading from Orlando, FL to San Diego, CA and back... riding in October and mixing camping with hotels... I had been looking at different alternatives to making a meal while on the road and this seems to hit the spot. Got a few Mountain House to test out before the trip and also testing one of the Omeals bags that does its own heating...
Thank you for your videos, these have been great in getting me ready for this trip in October...
Oh, and yeah... got the sleeping bag, the towel, the... lol Love it when I do not have to think and I can get stuff already proven on a similar use that I plan on doing...

The jetboil flash while dated is pretty good for boiling water.I bought mine about 10 years ago I think. But for just a little more room in the bag The Trangia cook set allows for much more cooking options for about the same weight. You might check it out some time. I have cooked everything from pizza to pasta, Steak , eggs and fish while camping or backpacking. Great vid thanks for sharing

I’ve been using a jetboil for about 5 years now and still works great. My suggestion is to not put the lid on when boiling water. The first time I ever used it I filled with water, put the lid on and started setting up camp. I realized after several minutes it was boiling over and the excessive heat softened the plastic of the lid and it has never fit as snug as it should or did when new. With the lid off, it still boils water in about 2 mins flat. Extremely fast. Keep up the great work Tim!

St Helens with some of our countries most beautiful scenery but thanks to you I made a week-long trip through NM & Eastern Arizona a few months back. Tonto Forest was one of the most beautiful sights for me to date...unfortunately it was mostly covered in snow which accentuated the beauty but it kept me on the main road...which is good considering I was on a Goldwing ha! I have an older Jetboil. The Jetboil french press crapped out pretty quickly and the igniter died (they no longer carry the part, so I just carry a charcoal lighter). But it all works for tea, ramen noodles and coffee (I now use a collapsible silicone single cup coffee maker - looks like your cup but with a screen at the bottom). Also check out the Camp Chef Stryker or the Fire Maple Fixed Star. They look like Jetboil copies.

Excellent video. I never would have thought about a review of something as old as the jetBoil would have been of interest but as I see in the comments it was a great idea, I have one and the msr version. The chinese now have one out on ebay at half the price, I think its made by firemaple, lots of options there. fwiw I use the small gas canister on short trips as it stores inside the jetboil canister with the burner for smaller packing. Your practical videos are very refreshing from the tiresome "self appointed expert" adventure videos from some others with 4 or 5 years total experience.

Nice review Tim. The jet boil is really cool....if I could stomach backpack meals I would probably buy one. The jet boil is is perfect if you primarily eat backpack meals. I prefer to cook my own food when out....albeit simple in nature. I have spent a fortune testing various brands of dehydrated meal and honestly none of them are fit to eat in my opinion. I draw ire from someone whenever I say this but to each there own right. I can't take the smell, nor the taste and generally the consistency is like something my dog hacked up.......no Mylar meals for me!
If backpack food is ok for you and you use a simple method for coffee(instant, geva , or pour over) I think the jet boil is an outstanding choice, and it is similar in size to my self assembled "lunch kit"

    • @FTAAdventures

Gotta love Arizona. Love your vids have now binge watched all of em. After camping or boondocking in my van or bike the past 50 years I’m pretty well bulked up on my camp stuff. My old eureka timberline tents, have the 2 and 4 man, work for me. Several stoves from Coleman to cheap jetboil clones, depends on the trip. At 72 I don’t get out as much anymore but your vids inspire me to keep planning 😎🌵‼️

Arizona is a strong 2nd Amendment state; you can carry a pistol openly or concealed without paperwork, providing you're over 21 and legal to carry. Every bring a pistol with you in your rides through AZ? Thanx in advance.

Jetboil is a good system but too expensive and large and heavy IMO. BSR Titanium stove on Amazon under $10, weighs an ounce and the size of a peanut folded down.. I pair it with a Toaks 750ml cup/lid to boil water and a small fuel tank fits in it. A ranger band holds it all together. $45 instead of $100, smaller and lighter. A guy can get set up with a tent, bag, mat, pillow and cook kit on Amazon for $200...I did it, and it all works great AND fits in my 30 liter duffel. Less is more.

    • @FTAAdventures
      @FTAAdventures  5 ปีที่แล้ว

Thanks Mark! It is certainly a big investment. I was using a smaller cheap $14 stove for the last year or more and it worked great. My big thing is the convenience of really fast boil times, but it is also a trade off because of the size.
