Not gonna lie, as a person who had no idea dishwashers were a thing, when I first heard about internet/reddit stories of kids forgetting to turn on the dishwasher, I get so confused and ask, "T-they're supposed to turn on the dishwasher?" I always thought that when these stories refer to dishwashers, they were referring to housemaids or the servant who washes the dishes (the dishwasher).
@@Ikajo It's probably because it's not that mainstream in my country yet. It may be in more rural and in higher class neighborhoods, but I've only came across them relatively recently on the internet.
"Workplace culture and fun" is just corporate speak for extroverts imposing their idea of "fun" on introverts. When I'm at work, just *leave me alone!*
This made me crack up, as my name really is Karen and my brother’s name is Kevin. Of all the names in the universe to be singled out. We are also both visually impaired so we get to spend our lives fighting negative stereotypes. LOL
@@ExElliexE It's an American sterotype. Just like the Karen and Kevin sterotype. They aren't always actually *named* Karen/Kevin, but we still call them that because people with the name Karen became more popularly known for being what we now call Karens; Entitlement, rude behavior, asking for the manager, etc. It's just the name that stuck. So, if you were to take everything I just said and replace it with "Americans" it should make sense. (By "everything" I mean the 2nd paragraph, excluding 'named').
Hahaha this is why my parents always taught me "Just wait til its full to run the dishwasher, it's a waste of water if its not a full load" We're a family of 5 so it was a fair rule.
My colleague had the same problem. But the upper management was clever. They were happy, that someone would stay for closing 20 minutes longer. So they changed his shift. They moved his shift back 20 minutes. He was happy with it and never "late".
Isnt it amazing how much of a difference having the right tone to your voice and just being a decent human can make? Had the owner just said "hey, I'd appreciate if you came in on time" he would have avoided having to close by himself for a couple nights and not p!ss off his best employee

Everyone: "Work getting done on time" > "workers arrive on time" Managers: "Work getting done on time" < "workers arrive on time" Tell me which is more successfull
So many malicious compliance stories reflect that line from "They Closed Paradise and Put Up a Parking Lot": "You don't know what you've got 'til it's gone."
I had a manager similar to the last one. She would push people to see how much bs they'd take. One girl worked 3 other jobs and could afford to lose that job so she wouldn't take any bs. I shut down after a little bit and stopped putting in effort so she could push me a little before I cracked. This one girl though, she was a total doormat. She was so mean to the point that she would barely talk when the manager was in the store. After COVID I talked to that manager about how I loved working with her but she was a bit of a chatterbox (on days she wasn't there). My manager was so stunned that she wouldn't shut up on her days off that I said to her, "You're always way tougher on her than anyone else."
The story about the boy putting running the dishwasher with one glass reminded me of something my brother did when he was about 8. My mom asked him to put 2 slices of bread in the toaster. A few minutes later she went to the toaster and there was the bread, untoasted, in the toaster. She asked my brother why he didn't push the bread down to toast. He said, "You just asked me to put bread in, you didn't ask me to push it down." LOL
I totally get it. If people talk me down kindly, I’m nice to them. But if they are rude, than I’m rude. Here’s my favorite story. I was in my last year of High School (17 years old), and I was pissed. The year was ending, we had a lot of projects and major exams coming, and the entrance exams to university (in Brazil you have to do exams to enter uni, no one cares about your school grades) were coming. Still, they took out some of our classes to give us motivational speeches, and they DIDNT care that we would lose subjects that we needed to know for the exam (we basically had to study many things by ourselves). So yeah, I was pissed. Before the speech started I was playing on my phone, and didn’t notice it when it started. So this high rank person of the school came to me and said “Are you seriously playing on your phone?”. I got mad. If he had been kind and asked me to stop, I would’ve. But not like this. So I answered “Are you seriously going to annoy me for this?”. He got mad, started lecturing me and I only stopped arguing because it was starting to annoy the people around us and it wasn’t fair to them. But I was still mad. So I took out my grammar summary for the teste next day, and spend the whole speech reading it. What was he going to say, for me to stop studying? In the end nothing happened to me because I was one of the good kids, responsible, followed the rules and had good grades. So they let it go.

1st story - I can't tell if you all were working the amount of hours you were supposed to work or if you spent time working for free... either way you should get paid for your actual time. 2nd story - Good for you, getting that replacement job ASAP. 3rd story - Parents were kids once, so why don't they think a little more about what they say to their kids, and spell out expectations thoroughly rather than expecting children to just divine via ESP how to do stuff? 4th story-Creepy new owner trying to maximize his position of power. Hope he got sued for sexual harassment at some point. 5th story-Funny how the manager didn't mind you getting off schedule to help him close up, but then had to be a total shmuck about you being a little bit late to arrive in one day. Only reason to go back to doing that after his attitude is if you liked the OT pay.
Fourth story: That's what I was thinking. I'm wondering if the coffee house was a franchise or independently owned. If franchised, they can make a complaint to the district manager with an attorney present. If independently to owned, they needed an attorney.
First story: You see this pattern in so many businesses. Everyone is working so diligently for the company because of a positive workplace atmosphere, until corporate starts to integrate outside sources into the business who starts demanding change, even if just to make themselves appear like they're useful or doing something good. Morals goes down the drain, and the business results takes a beating because of it. Then they ask how that's possible, as if it wasn't obvious enough that their change in policy was the cause. And given the different opinions about HR, it's apparently a hit or miss regarding how they treat the workers for the companies they're hired by. Second story: That boss is the definition of flying on cloud nine while being oblivious to the chaotic business model he's running. If I were in such a manager position and was told by the boss that I was "making excuses" while giving my all just to keep his business afloat, then I'd tell him to perform the manager tasks himself and prove if he can do a better job. And if he'd given me time off as well, I'd likely hand him the keys and tell him "Good luck running your train wreck of a coffee shop" and never looked back. By the sound of that boss, he was either running some shady side business and was making enough money to make ends meet anyway, or he's just too egotistic to learn from his mistakes. Never having to deal with him again is a win either way. Third story: That's probably the most wholesome example I've seen showing when entitlement makes people act before they think, it'll come back to bite them in the butt. That's why I rarely appreciate when people are so much against even basic rational or critical thinking and wants to rush or say things that they'll regret later. Short-term decisions ain't always worth the long-term consequences, but sadly there are those who can't seem to fathom what that entails, or chooses to ignore it because they're so convinced they know better. But hey, their lives and their choices. Fourth story: Either this boss just wanted to implement some sexist Hooters clothing policy, which would be the mildest case of his moral depravity, or he was looking to do some "shady" stuff with the CCTV footage beyond whatever security reason he had them up for. Neither of those things makes him any less of a dirtbag. His "bribing" the female employees with extra shifts was merely the introduction to what kind of creep he is. Good thing that the sexual harassment got dealt with swiftly and conveniently. Fifth story: You know what they say, some people just can't appreciate what they have until they lose it. In the job industry, it's so common to be informed to not let your negative emotions get the better of you when on the clock. Sadly there's a lot of superiors who let the same negative emotions be in control when interacting with their employees, so they have to be reminded that they're equally as responsible to keep a professional attitude as the people they employ during business hours.
That snooty manager who told OP to 'think on his position' seems to think his employees are children who act out and get 'time out' punishments. Weird!
If this was me, after biking in, I'd be seated at my desk at exactly 9 am, in my cycling gear, all smelly and sweaty. I'd take a shower and change at my first break at 10:30.
I'm not sure how that coffee shop outfit managed to grow into a chain with ownership like that, but sooner or later the owners will run it into the ground.
0:25 to be fair though, if you know you’re cycling and have to shower, you should be leaving at a time that gives you enough time to cycle, shower and ready to start work at 9. It’s not a one off late thing
I will never understand why managers decide to nickle & dime their best employees. Like, dude, don't screw with the one guy who's basically keeping your company afloat! XD
Honestly this is my favourite series and it’s absolutely hilarious to watch people just go “ok, I’m gonna take what you said to the word.” And I love it
It’s really upsetting when you get so good at your job management starts thinking you aren’t doing it because they don’t have problems to solve. I dealt with it for about 6 months after having been in the position 3 years with minimal promotion. Needless to say once I walked out so did everyone else within the month. But that’s on them saying I’m replaceable. I do miss the position because of all the awesome people I’ve met, not the job responsibilities. Was my first ever job and made some friends and I’m forever grateful for that. I just wish they would have listened to the 1 person who stuck around for the long run
Short story from when I was a kid. Lower middle class family, not poor but on a budget. Would always get a little money for skating rink. After a small argument about not doing as I was told I was given a $20 and told to bring home the change. Needless to say, I brought home the change. After admission, videogames and food... was about .63 cents. He was not amused...
That story about the slime ball owner brings back memories of a owner I worked for at a dinner. Let’s just say spending money on girls was more important than paying taxes, food supply bills, utilities and even worker’s paychecks. When he went to the nursing home and what he owed came out certain people couldn’t believe it and the rest didn’t realize how bad he had dug himself in. The real victim was his wife.
Your "the universe is already cold" comment was golden! I'd have high-fived you, and been in timeout too! Needless to say, my little brother and I gave our parents hell, so we'd have appreciated the wit of a kindred soul.
My Canadian aircon/window story: My parents kept our house cold when I was a kid (68 f). One day I was in my room and I was cold so I opened the window. My mom came in and yelled at me, "do you know how much it costs to have a window open while the AC is running?" I responded, "about as much as when you have your window open in the winter?" She sleeps with her window open in the winter. She had no response.
With the HR person who made the rule, that everyone had to be at their desks by 9am. I was thinking the same basic thought, that was mentioned afterwards. No matter if it's a new HR, Manager or Owner, they should first take some time to see how things are being run. Because it either been working good so far, so keep doing so. Or its not, then see what needs to change, for example.... New rules, how things are set up in the work place, or if there is one or more employees that is messing things up... where by they need to be retrained or fired.
I’m wondering if that coffee shop story is the Starbucks near where I work-they have a massive rotating staff and none of their baristas ever seem trained. It would not surprise me in the least if this was why. 😂
Chat at the coffee machine and people desk is oil for the machinery. Also, someone chatting is someone who wouldn't be productive at the first place. Not intuitive, but it's a win. People create bond and the net result is more efficient communication. It's much easier to say to someone that he screwed up and give an hand when you have good bonds. It's not even easier, it's in the scheme of things. I have worked in a company where breaks were huge, so big I thought they were going to a daily meeting 😂 Until, if I recall, someone asked why I didn't came. Those chats and breaks are very important. Many times an original solution is found when someone looks concerned and another ask what's going on then the guy explain and someone else either had the same issue or give another insight. Some companies do realize it, but go with the wrong implementation: Team Building. Those are mostly welcome (when not uncanny), but they do not replace bonds ones can make during breaks. It's also why it is important to have a coffee corner and/or break room. It's also weird, but there should not be too much coffee machines, having a small queue do help in bonding. That's how you force people to be together without being coercive.
On the first story when OP said downward trend I immediately visualized A plane (being the business with the owner inside) losing one of the wings (the wing being op) and then the plane starting to crash but instead of crashing into the ground it flies into a bottomless pit and losing all of its other wings (the employees) and then the owner plummeting into the pit (SEVERE FINANCIAL LOSS AND DEPRESSION)
That 10 year old boy reminds me of something I did as a kid. I had gone to the local pool with my mum and her friend. The local pool was roughly an hour walk from where we lived. This was the 70s, decades before mobile phones were a thing. Mum was wishing my father would pick us up, so in a joking voice, her friend told me: C, go home, tell your father to pick us up then hurry back here so you can be picked up also. Both mum and her friend laughed at that idea. Being a cheeky child, I decided to have some fun. As a child, I walked heaps and that day was no exception. So I walked home, asked my father if he could please pick up mum, but not for 1 hour, as that's when she'll be ready to be picked up, then told him I'm going back to the pool. He said ok. So I get back, and mum's friend, after recovering from shock, asked where my father was. I said that he was on his way. Sure enough, not long after I got there, my father came and collected us. My mum's friend never made such a stupid request ever again.
I love how the dude wanted a manager to make the store better but doesn't let them do anything that will accomplish that. Wouldn't let them fire the incompetent people, hire anyone better or anything else needed
The last story is something I can relate to. I walk two hours to get to my place of work because I don't have a car, and sometimes that means i end up a little late (usually just a few minutes) but sometimes I can be hours late (if weather is bad, or i am getting a ride and they cancel) and I almost got fired over it once. I often would stay to help close for the extra hours though, and so I could catch a ride home. After all, if I am gonna be sitting around after work, why not help out and get paid? But after that I've just been waiting til my scheduled hours, and when it's time to clock out, I'll just head home.
8:24 - I'm sorry, but all I took from the 3rd story was - *There is Minecraft fanfic?* I suppose I'm not surprised - there is fanfic for everything, but I was surprised.
That last one reminds me of one of the first contract labs I worked in. I was scheduled 0800-1630(medical labs run on 24 hour time to avoid confusion) and would show up early to thaw QC and do Temps and stay late to disassemble equipment and clean it since the lab was based in a clinic with an attached emergency unit that only existed to stabilize someone until we could get them to an actual ER and nothing could be taken down until after we were closed. The manager I worked under was awesome she knew I would work these extra minutes and often without taking any of my 15 minute breaks so she let me take extra time for lunch. There was always this one staff member who would get upset because I'd take extra time for lunch, never mind that the extra time was usually spent running to a local shop and picking up a hot lunch for everyone in the lab. My manager always shot her down citing all the extra time I put in including the days where I was the only tech they had. The last month I was there that managed left and not two weeks in my time card gets denied. Turns out she went and complained about how I'm taking extra time off lunch to management, I filed a counter claim, both of us were pulled aside to give our stories and it was decided that they would approve my time card but no matter what I was to stick to my schedule and she would do all of the extra work. Sure enough for my last two weeks there O would get in at my usual time then stand there looking at the clock on the wall while she ran around putting equipment together, thawing QC, Doing Temps, Running simulators, stocking the draw room, etc. All by herself and as soon as it was 16:30 whether or not there was a tear running, which there often times was, or all the end of shift maintenance needing to get done I'd just log out and leave. It didn't take long for the doctors to complain about a delay in patient testing in the morning and her to complain about having to stay over to do all that work. To managements credit I didn't see them again because they just told her that she was the one to complain about it in the first place and I was just doing what I was told and she agreed to it so they weren't backtracking on the decision.
I'm in an HR Management class. How in the fuck do you go into an office culture and then change it? Like this was deadass the first thing we learned about. How you interact with another office's culture could make or break company deals, and easily turn a work environment toxic. WTF!?
The coffee shop one, I feel that. I work at a one as well, and it sounds almost as bad. We have a little more standard, I’m not the manager, and we don’t have many no shows (as far as I’m aware). But management, and leadership are horrid. Like I asked my boss for this weekend off, she approved. I didn’t know I had to put it on a calendar, so I was scheduled that weekend. I told her I can’t, and totally forgot I asked for it off. I still ended up getting it off, but only after her asking me if I even want to work 🙄

How could you not know what a dishwasher is? It is very common and very convenient. I have a small one that I use frequently, and I live on my own

Not even a Minute old video but we can all hear Karen's and Kevin's voices
This made me crack up, as my name really is Karen and my brother’s name is Kevin. Of all the names in the universe to be singled out. We are also both visually impaired so we get to spend our lives fighting negative stereotypes. LOL
@@Positivekitten Oh, that sucks. If anyone says something about you being a Karen, say something about them being American.
@@longdong7667 why are you assuming that only Americans use Karen and Kevin?
@@ExElliexE
It's an American sterotype.

"Don't rock the boat until you know what's keeping it afloat." Legendary advice distilled for simple managers.
Man the dishwasher parents are good in the sense that they laughed it off and admitted that the kid was doing what he was told. If I ever did that I'd get yelled at about "Are you an idiot?" "You're wasting stuff" "You know exactly what I meant" "Don't be a smartass" etc etc etc
This was the most entitled malicious compliance ever! $
9:57 HA!
You are wasting electricity, of course I understand your dad's side. It is such a waste of all that cold air going out the window and the hot air coming in.
You need to close your window and keep the cold air in dummy 👎
Everyone:
"Work getting done on time" > "workers arrive on time"
Managers:
"Work getting done on time" < "workers arrive on time"
Tell me which is more successfull
"And my smart-ass self self said -"

The story about the boy putting running the dishwasher with one glass reminded me of something my brother did when he was about 8. My mom asked him to put 2 slices of bread in the toaster. A few minutes later she went to the toaster and there was the bread, untoasted, in the toaster. She asked my brother why he didn't push the bread down to toast. He said, "You just asked me to put bread in, you didn't ask me to push it down." LOL
Running the AC with a window open and he doesn’t understand why the dad got mad?? You are wasting electricity
When you stayed up late, havent had coffee and you need something to keep your mind awake... My SaViOr. Love listening to 'em! Have a great day everyone!
That coffee shop boss propositioning his female employees for more shifts is committing quid pro quo sexual harassment
XD
Rslash and his dad's argument had me rollin' "Do I pay the bills to cool the universe down?" Rslash But dad the universe is already cold.
"Don't rock the boat until you know what's keeping it afloat."
Oooh, I like that one! Never heard it before, but very applicable.
Who loves daily uploads before school? I love daily uploads before school!
Wait the title and picture are different lol

the kid eating straight chocolate chips secretly while reading minecraft fanfic at night? yeah, that uh.... that hits too close to home.
Male employees at the coffee shop FOR THE WIN. What amazing guys sticking up for their co-workers!
My Canadian aircon/window story:
My parents kept our house cold when I was a kid (68 f). One day I was in my room and I was cold so I opened the window. My mom came in and yelled at me, "do you know how much it costs to have a window open while the AC is running?"
I responded, "about as much as when you have your window open in the winter?"
She sleeps with her window open in the winter. She had no response.
The one manager... OP should've added to quitting by saying to him "You should take this time to consider your future in the company" or something.

Yeah seems about right
I’m wondering if that coffee shop story is the Starbucks near where I work-they have a massive rotating staff and none of their baristas ever seem trained.
Did no one see that it's malicious compliance but it says entitled people?
On the first story when OP said downward trend I immediately visualized
A plane (being the business with the owner inside) losing one of the wings (the wing being op) and then the plane starting to crash but instead of crashing into the ground it flies into a bottomless pit and losing all of its other wings (the employees) and then the owner plummeting into the pit (SEVERE FINANCIAL LOSS AND DEPRESSION)
the story about the coffee shop, i love how they put the screws to the slimy manager
When the boss said "Where are you going?" And OP said "Home", who else immediately thought of longbeachgriffy? 😂
First story: I know how to make programs and my first teacher gave me a really good tip that work with everything. "If something works, don't fix it."
"Don't rock the boat until you know what keeps it afloat"
I think I'll be using this one from now on.
How is OP supposed to manage a coffeyshop without authority and still be held responsible for mistakes out of their controll?
The last story though.. That boss really messed up, all because he has a sucky attitude.
8:24 - I'm sorry, but all I took from the 3rd story was - *There is Minecraft fanfic?*
I suppose I'm not surprised - there is fanfic for everything, but I was surprised.
WTF!?
"So... you've had some time to think."
So did you. Apparently only OP did any in that time.
I still ended up getting it off, but only after her asking me if I even want to work 🙄
@10:45 You could have said "there's no air conditioner that could cool the universe". LOL
