I can always rely on both of you to be joyfully odd, quirky & brimful with whimsy - I love it. I really look forward to each new video. Thank you for enriching my life.
I always liked the Mister Magoo animated version (when I was a little-un at least). I wonder if there's a comic adaptation of that one? It would seem likely.
You should audition for the part of Wallace in the Wallace and Gromit movies. your voice is perfect. For several years I've been buying a new edition of A Christmas Carol. This year I bought a Christmas Carol an engaging visual Journey. It is an illustrated edition. It also has stories by Maxine du Camp, Sir Arthur😮 Conan Doyle, O. Henry, and Francois Coppee, and the lyrics to some Christmas carols. It's part of the Tyndale Living Expressions collection.
I believe the original Wallace voice guy has passed unfortunately, so maybe there's a vacancy! I love the idea of a new edition each year - the Visual Journey sounds great.
Post Carol pastiche sounds amazing! What a great idea. I'm hoping Chains is a Hellraiser crossover event. *LOVE* invoking Lacey Chabert like a muse at the beginning. 😆 I look forward with great interest to your reviews of Dickens' other Christmas books from that Oxford collection.
Oh boy, I'm trying to tone down on reading events, but this one is tempting. I'll be reading A Christmas Carol anyway, as I do every year, so maybe ... 🤔 "Every time I think I'm out, they pull me back in." 😉
Speaking of sequels to "A Christmas Carol," last year, my wife and I read one called "God Bless Us Every One!" by Andrew Angus Dalrymple, a Canadian writer. It was a good read and worth checking out. Not that you were speaking of sequels but in the spirit of the episode...
This is a really fun idea. I've always been fascinated how things that become cultural game changers inevitably lead to rip-offs, pastiches, etc. to the point where they settle into accepted tropes and conventions. A Christmas Carol is definitely one of those, and I'm sad to say I've never actually read it. Not all the way through, anyway. 🤣I've been saving it for Christmas the last couple of years and I keep missing it for whatever reason. Maybe this is the year! I'm curious about that Disney novelization, since the movie is pretty faithful to the original story (as far as I'm aware, anyway). I didn't think it was that bad, being that it was so faithful to the story, although Zemeckis' obsession with mocap animation has definitely been something of a downturn from his earlier days, lol. Always happy to see a shoutout to The Spectre, one of my favorite superheroes ever. I'll have to see if I can track down that Christmas Carol story. 😛Looks like you've got a full holiday season booked up, I look forward to hearing you talk about them. 😊
I'm looking forward to The Spectre too. Always liked the character. In the first DC comic I read, he stretches himself almost to breaking point trying to stop two duplicate earths colliding! I'm halfway through Christmas Shadows and it's definitely like the Carol had become a genre/template.
@@waltera13: I love your channel badging, are you about to launch into BookTube. I'd love to follow your bookish adventures. I'm also quite new to BookTube, but loving it, never thought I'd work out the technology, but so far, so good - it's a wonderful lark.
@apoetreadstowrite what wonderful positivity! Nowadays I'm more concerned with finding a job than starting a channel. 😁 It is kind of you to suggest, so let me suggest some excellent people you can follow besides Roy. A lot of my favorites are smaller channels with a specific focus, but the first one I would recommend would be @saintdonoghue he's a great general booktuber with years of bookish experience, and supporter of booktubers. You'll find out about a number of top quality booktubers from him. You like poetry, so I would recommend Tom LA Books as well. Bookpilled is great and for Science Fiction information you can't beat @OutlawBookselleroriginal. Michael K Vaughan is a lot of fun too. Oh, and speaking of fun; the short Batman comic I mentioned is called: "The Silent Night of the Batman."
@booksoffthebeatenpath Yes, I think it has a guy out of Downton Abbey in it. One of my professors was vexed that it anachronistically showed newspapers with ENORMOUS HEADLINES

Also a fave of Jennie
Also a favorite for me. My introduction to Dickens!
I love the Mr Magoo one, even though the bit when they're selling the bedsheets and stuff terrified the bejeebus out of me when I was a wee girl 😱😱😱
Well, that’s a first! I never had anyone mention me in song!!! Love you idea of reading things inspired or ripped off by Dickens. 💛🎄

"Sing to me oh Chabert,
Of the greed of Ebenezer,
And the length of the chains forged therefrom."
Genius!
I'm really stoked about this one. I'll rate them in 'Chaberts'
The 1951 adaptation of A Christmas Carol with Alastair Sim is the best adaptation. Always and forever 😊
Absolutely!

It's a sad reflection on my use of time that I got the Lucy Chabet reference. It made me laugh though!

'Batman Noël' as a seasonal comic - no way. That is so 'out there' I must search it out, sounds like an absolute hoot!
There was a great Batman Christmas comic from the 70s, I think it's easily found online somewhere. Genuinely a good Christmas story.
@@waltera13: Thanks for that info, will search it out.

Is that the one where he sings with the GCPD choir?
clearly I'm doing things wrong by not going through all of these different types of A Christmas Carol! Will have to rectify this year!
I've done a few of these now, and it's definitely interesting but the 'original and best' is unbeatable
Great video. I'm intrigued by Christmas Shadows...
Me too, I'm very keen to read it!
Isn’t there a book called The Man Who Created Christmas, which is about Dickens? You look like you have a great selection picked out!

You guys crack me up. Have you been swallowing down extra cups of caffeine before turning on the camera?
