Idk if you noticed but the opening scene was you playing as mister(the kidnapper), the messed up looking woman was his mother who as that diary passage showed was abusing him, that was the body in the attic which is why he seems mentally stunted or whatever the word is. It's probably why he chose to listen to the sister and kidnap them, especially if she told him what was going on. That ending of him killing the kids mom after she pushed him I'm pretty sure was him having flashbacks which is why he ran away holding his head and yes, that ending was suppose to be a feel good moment for the main character because as the sister said, he had always been scared of the mom so now he knew he was free from her. In this, the kidnapper wasn't the antagonist, he really wasn't a bad person, just another victim of abuse trying to help others dealing with the same thing in his childlike brain. The main antagonist in this was the mom

I feel like he didn’t get over his trauma so he ends up acting more like a child than an adult as examples when he tried to play with the kids and when he listened to Sakiko without any problems.
