Hi There. Thank you for this wonderful project. Apart from learning a lot about how people used to live in Tibet, as a Tibetan language student, I find these videos very useful to practice. Therefore I was wondering if you could upload a Tibetan transcript, apart from the English, for every video so people who study Tibetan can practice? Thank you again.

It's very interesting that she talked about the tradition of giving away our body to vultures. Sky burial tradition that she seem to be very familiar with and practiced. She also looks very very clean even though she super duper old. Her hair, I see not a single dandruff or junk. She must have smell good too. Bless your soul momo la. May your wisdom bless us. 🌸🌈🤍🐚🙏

This interview is full of misunderstanding.
This woman's family was bonded labourers of one estate. They are more or less slaves. In return of life long work on this estate they get food only. That's all!
The childrens have to inherit this bondage.
This Tibetan intrepreter has very poor knowledge of Tibet. Therefore quality of intrepretion is very.

In 1950+ there were about 3 millions Tibetans of which 95% were serfs, indentured farmers and herdsmen. Land, animals, wild life and practically every else were owned by the 5% high ranking Lamas, aristocrats, and officials. The privileged ones escaped to India. The oral history should include former serfs, indentured farmers and herders in present day China as well as wealthy
Tibetan diasporas in India, the contrasting experience should be very interesting. This old lady’s family were employed by the rich landlord and had to paid taxes for every things they rented or borrowed. The absentee landlords were the 5% high ranking Lamas and theocrats who later fled to India. The English speaking interviewer displayed very little knowledge of the history of the theocratic feudal Tibet. The were no Shangri La for these peasants. The interview of the the 95% Tibetans who remained in China after1959 will give truer contrasting stories of the past and the present. Just hope this oral history program will maintain a open mind and present a true picture of the old Tibet.
This all changed. After 1959, when Dala Lama and the aristocrats refused to give up serfdom and land and escaped to India with their wealth. The serfs were freed, own land and property as they are now.

sstchan924 can you explain watt is its serfs ? Why if you explain your source for the story about 1951 en 1959 ?

If you are really open-minded search TH-cam for the six part “The Story of Tibet’s Serfs” posted by gbmkfm01 and other archival documentaries by non-Chinese. Then you can draw your own conclusion.

So this give u excuse to claim tibet , what an irony, , ? Every single country in the world(china too) is evolved through slavery, landlord, monarchy but that does not define its present image, " if u search for prostitute in town u ll surely find " cmon grow up kiddo

We should also acknowledge that pre 1959 Tibet was same or worse as Chinese in 1960s thampzin and cultural revolution in Tibet.
