  • BUDGET 2025: More benefits for children, reduction of bureaucracy - The Greens satisfied with traffic light agreement
Christian Dürr, the FDP parliamentary group leader in the German Bundestag, stressed that the debt brake for the 2025 budget will be adhered to, which the FDP under Christian Lindner is celebrating as a great success. But the SPD is critical. Rolf Mützenich, the SPD parliamentary group leader, expressed clear criticism of the FDP and suggested that the SPD could possibly declare a state of emergency, which is one of its long-standing demands. The 2025 budget has therefore not yet been finally decided.
The Greens also commented on the compromise reached after a marathon meeting in the Chancellery. Katharina Dröge, the Greens' parliamentary group leader in the Bundestag, thanked Robert Habeck for his efforts in the negotiations. She emphasized that the 2025 federal budget will provide greater support for children and daycare funding in particular. The budget also provides for better support for the economy, particularly through reducing bureaucracy, promoting investment and making it easier for refugees to find work. Climate protection also remains a key issue, with funds secured for renewable energies in the budget.
The Greens will discuss the budget intensively, with austerity measures in various areas, particularly internal and external security and humanitarian aid, being viewed critically. Dröge regretted that no talks were held with the Union and Friedrich Merz on a reform of the debt brake, which could make the budget more realistic.
