Great video! Thank you so much! Overplanning-yes! Guilty as charged! Consistency is very challenging for me, too. And my kiddo has health issues, which makes consistency even harder. The beauty of homeschooling is flexibility. The detriment of homeschooling is flexibility. I work really well with external expectations and external deadlines. I have always performed really well at school and at work. But getting things done at home, not so much! As our kiddo has gotten older, my husband has become increasingly uncomfortable with the lack of consistency. So that has actually helped me a lot. That external accountability, so to speak, pushes me to be more consistent, and only use the gift of flexibility when it’s really called for…health complications or special days/opportunities. Also, I find that overplannng is directly linked to lack of fun. If I’m feeling like we have so much to get done, then I’m too tense to relax and let ourselves be silly and fun along the way. Thanks again! You’re awesome!
I’ve just told my kids that some extras I’ve planned we will only do if they want to and they asked not to do it!!! I worry that we are t doing enough yet we are doing more than public school Kids!!! My pre planing is on note paper so it is more flexible!!! We say it’s bookwork time and homeschooling overflows into life!!! I need to make homeschooling more fun, in Tokyo we mainly did bookwork!!!
Great video, I was a teacher too and I still struggle with overplanning. Overbuying I nipped with a spreadsheet. I do occasionally forget to write a purchase down, but raw numbers helped me alot. I pushed my oldest after coming right out of teaching and into homeschooling, my mom still teaches and makes it hard by saying well they should be doing x by x grade and I just try to let it roll off. We are adhd, on spectrum, and dyslexic. We try our best every day.
Keeping a spread sheet is really helpful for sure. I agree that trying to do the comparison game with public school children can be super frustrating! Children are not all the same and should not be expected to achieve the same goals all at the same time as each other. It's very unrealistic. Thanks for sharing!
