Thanks, Wink. I don't know why this pilot was passed on. I liked the categories and pre-Internet, they seem very challenging. I like how the host had to work up a sweat during the bonus game. The one takeaway: the audience helping out the contestants by inadvertently acknowledging some of the correct answers in advance (I Was A Teenage Werewolf, The Grassroots). I know they were excited, but they should have just keep silent and let the contestants figure out whether any of the answers were right or wrong. However, the host did address that near the end of the game.
Did a little research on Tony Hernandez (I'm sure it's the same guy) and found an interesting story: he played a commentator in Rocky III, they initially offered him $300 for it, but he'd have to join the screen actor's guild. He found out it would cost him $250 to do that so he turned it down. They bumped the offer up to $600 so he accepted. To this day, he still gets royalty checks for a few bucks calls it "lunch money". 😅
Shouldn't have been a surprise Mary knew "A votre sante" since she's from Montreal. I always thought Baklava was a Greek dessert not a Turkish dessert but still a wrong answer for game purposes.
I enjoyed this concept. Yeah it needed some tweaks (they should let the contestant move the answers in the bonus round ala The Race Game from TPIR instead of screaming at a harried Tony Hernandez). But I found myself engaged.
Great to finally see this in full. I enjoyed this pilot and would have watched as a series, however it has flaws, the main one of course being the host switching the answers in the bonus round instead of the contestant. This wasted too much time. The other flaws were a prize not revealing when it should have, and the audience shouting answers. I would assume this would have been taken care of had it gone to series, but you don’t leave errors in a pilot. Tony Hernandez was a little stiff at times, but he ran the game well and there were hints of his personality showing through. I think he would have had a chance to loosen up and be a decent host had this sold.
That's certainly a fabulous prize for a very winnable bonus round. On Wipeout you had to get six instead of five, and they weren't giving away Corvettes.
I saw the Wipeout pilot, and the bonus round was quite literally the same format, 10 answers, with 5 right and 5 wrong. But of course, the contestant did their own running back and forth.
@@jeffboettcher2531 they also gave the contestant hoops to hang instead of the magnets they did here cause it looks like that could have caused issues. They further fixed it in the series with the touchscreens.
This one was pretty good and honestly the concept is kind of similar to Wipeout, the one Peter Tomarken hosted in the late '80s. In the sense that you have to find the right answers out of a board of answers that are right and wrong.
Taken, in part, from an episode of the Canadian children's TV series, "The Waterville Gang", aired in that country in the 1972-73 season, which can be found here: th-cam.com/video/XFZpQHAFtFc/w-d-xo.html (the music was provided by Score Productions, Ltd., and can be found at 5:37).
Would have made a good show with some tweaking. Tony Hernandez did a really good job overall, although having him run around during the bonus round wasn't the best idea. He probably got more exercise than some of the athletes whose games he broadcasted.
I kind of see the flaw with the bonus game (tuckering out that poor game show host like that) but nonetheless, I think this game show pilot should've sold and definitely keep that host. He's good.
Three fingers brown was a bit deceiving, there was also a baseball player Mordecai "three finger" Brown: A pitcher from the early 1900s who lost parts of 2 fingers in a farming accident. Twinkle Toes Selkirk incidentally is also a baseball player.
There should have been a better way to move the answers between the two boards. It’s not fair to depend on the host fumbling with the tiles and wasting time.
This was from Bud Austin, who produced Jay Wolpert's Whew and the Pandemonium pilot. Also produced the Leave it to Beaver reunion movie Still the Beaver. Also from Chester Feldman's Castle Drive Productions. The longtime Goodson-Todman producer and creator of Card Sharks amongst others.
The other two groups are Stealer's wheel (best known for "stuck in the middle with you") and I think the dolls which was the original name of the New York Dolls. Cold Duck is a wine, Alice B. Toklas was an American writer.
Not bad. I would tweak a few things to make it work. Its a little disorganized and I don't like some aspects of the main game but nothing that can't be fixed before its picked up. The one big issue that has to be changed though is the final round. The host of the show slapping cardboard onto a board as the contestant is yelling at him what she wants on there is ridiculous. Give the contestant control over that. Not the host. I've never seen something more silly and unfair in my life. He was like what? And the cards were falling off the board and the audience was yelling as the host was looking for what she said? That was ridiculous. That would have to have been changed if the show was picked up. Sadly it wasn't but it had potential.
I had the same thoughts. The concept was used in Wipeout, as I think you've seen in other comments by now. Contestants had full control of the bonus game, there was no "toss up" question which was just a weird thing to have in comparison to what Wipeout did, and though the prize board was cool in concept, I think it slowed the game down somewhat, so glad they didn't do that in Wipeout. Didn't hurt that Wipeout had a more than capable host in Peter Tomarken, as well.
You, sir, are a treasure trove and an absolute gift to us with your collection. Thank you!
The screaming audience didnt help in the final round ....but I was doing it at home too ...These are so much fun , Thanks Wink

Imagine if the pilot got picked up and greenlit, that would've been amazing if that was the case.

I knew that nanzdrovie was a real toast because they use it in Fiddle on the Roof in the song La Chaim.
Shouldn't have been a surprise Mary knew "A votre sante" since she's from Montreal. I always thought Baklava was a Greek dessert not a Turkish dessert but still a wrong answer for game purposes.
I've been wanting to see the whole pilot of this game show, and once again; The WINKSTER DELIVERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The bonus game was a precursor to Wipeout’s bonus game.
The whole show is very similar to Wipeout, with contestants searching for correct answers from a list of possibles.
This is a very extremely rare 1973 game show, plus, this is also a magnificent Take 5 game show in New York City!!
Don't you love the way the answers slide out?
I enjoyed this concept. Yeah it needed some tweaks (they should let the contestant move the answers in the bonus round ala The Race Game from TPIR instead of screaming at a harried Tony Hernandez). But I found myself engaged.
Either that, or get rid of the clock and give the contestant X amount of attempts so they can take more time to communicate.
Nice 👍👍 job, Wink!
I wonder how Don Pardo got the clearance to do a CBS pilot considering he had a lifetime contract with NBC.
Me too. Six months before this, he announced an ABC pilot The $10,000 Sweep.
It was a pilot. Was not associated with any network
@@mrbob8618 I guess pilots are an exception and if it had sold they would have had to get someone else or negotiate with NBC.
Is this the same Tony Hernandez that eventually ended up as a sportscaster on the local TV news here in L.A.?
Yes, that's he. Tony Hernandez also wrote a recently-published book called Always Turn Down the First Offer: Memoirs of a Sportscaster.

They also used this music for the pilot MoneyWords.
Why was a prize not revealed below the center box when it was won?
I guess they'd prefer to reveal one prize at a time per correct answer and link placement.
Probably forgot with the excitement over the center prize. It's a pilot, so it happens.
Probably someone messed up
The Host looks like a mix of Bert Convy and Alex Trebek 😁😊
This was a really good game show. With some tweaks, this could have made air.
Whose idea was it to have the host move props around in the bonus round? Leave that to the contestant.
Same theme that was used for "Moneywords".....catchy tune.

This would work on Game Show Network today.😀
They would obviously use higher technology.
@@sha11235 Oh yes, I can see the bonus round be all digital and none of this running back and forth. This was a cool concept.

The bottom center square wasn't revealed when it had the top linked when Mary took the coat.
They had a hard time with the audience influencing answers/challenges.
If the contestant had control over the final, she’d have won.
I guess our patience is being rewarded.
Bullets, it’s you!
Thought this was quite good! Certainly better than some of the shows that actually got picked up. :p
in England it was called Night of the Demon for the Curse.
Tony is a amazing host
OK, what the heck is Don Pardo doing announcing CBS?!
Freelance work. His NBC contract did not preclude him from doing pilots or commercials. I know because I worked with Don a couple of times.
i love School teachers too
“Bullets Durgom” was a wanted killer on the Honeymooners lost episode “Finger Man.”

Honestly, Take 5 kinda feels more like an NBC game than a CBS one. Not just because of Don Pardo announcing, but the whole atmosphere.
Where in New York was this shot? Since Pardo was involved I would guess 30 Rock.
Probably the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York, where Letterman and many other CBS game shows were taped. This was made for CBS.
It's actually not a bad show; a decent take on the Squares game. Was this the same company that did Wipeout? There's a few similarities.

He got a lot of exercise moving those things on and off the board.
Lol the player should move the answers not the host!
What were they thinking?
I believe if this show would've been picked up, they would've made that change.
Where does this source video come from? So curious.
Well, game won't be picked up sadly.
Kind of a play on Wipeout.
I know this may be a long-shot but is there a possibility of obtaining the 1975 version of CROSS-WITS hosted by Jack Clark?
As some one who has Lupus Disease Sometimes it feels like a horror movie,(LOL)😷💉☹️
How much is a Corvette Stingray now?
I would think we'll over $50,000.
$59,995 according to Google/Kelly Blue book
Starts at $58,900. Fully loaded, $78,935. Convertible fully loaded, $87,780.
Really tanned
Her skin looks fake.
Wink didn't you post this already?
Or was it just a clip?
what were the rest of the answer for the last minutes in Musical Groups.

ha Bonnie chosen Clyde McCoy. now we got a Bonnie and Clyde
This game was confusing and hard to figure out. The host was loud and so was the audience.
The host is cute
They copied the Moneywords theme.
This pilot (5/6/73) was shot before Money Words (2/8/74), so I guess Money Words copied it from Take 5.
