Did you guys recognize who Wong was fighting in the arena?? That was none other than The Abomination from the Incredible Hulk movie! More on him later :)
You didn't recognize Abomination (fighter with Wong) from the early Hulk movies. They did a redesign of the character to more closely match the comics. The director of the movie is a huge fan of old kung fu movies. That is a big reason why this movie felt like this (ie no jump shots during fights btwn camera angles). Most of the stunt performers were from Jackie Jan's stunt school as well.
Tony is one of my top 3 favorite actors. Amazing skills. First saw him in Hard Boiled, fell in love. But I think Chungking Express is my favorite of his.
The man that plays Shang-Chi was actually a stunt double for years for martial arts etc. He was also in a Canadian TV show called Corner Gas until recently. Also, in Iron Man 3 there is the ten rings and ‘The Mandarin’ who was a fake, the actual title is his father’s. That is why Ben Kingsley is here, the real Mandarin was going to kill him but realized the guy was a completely silly person whose barely sane, but amusing.
Shang-Chi Master of Kung-Fu came out in the 70s as a response to the Bruce Lee martial arts films craze. Shang-Chi's first appearance in Marvel comics was Special Marvel Edition vol. 1 #15 December 1973. He then appeared in issue #16 and with #17 the title was renamed: The Hands of Shang-Chi, Master of Kung-Fu. 😊 Shang-Chi's father in the comics was Fu Manchu but for copyright reasons and stereotype reasons this was changed for the MCU. 😊 The Mandarin in the comics books had ten rings one on each finger each ring giving its bearer a different power. In the MCU they were changed to ten wrist band discs of power controlled by the wearer. That was Wong fighting a more comic book accurate Abomination. The same Abomination as in the Ed Norton Hulk movie. 😮 The henchman's name is Razor Fist a villain in the Shang-Chi comics.
One of the best movies of Phase 4, I went to see this in cinema and it was such a joy to watch and that bus fight in particular is one of my fave fights in the MCU I’ve enjoyed your tv show reactions aswell
In the first Ant Man movie, when the buyers show up to get the yellowjacket suit, one of the "Hydra" representatives has the Ten Rings logo, the same as in Iron Man 3. tattooed on his neck.
The 10 rings in the comic book are ancient alien devices which fit on fingers and each one has different set of powers. The MCU ring seemed to have the same power but can work with different purposes like creating a shields to create a battering ram can also call different energy-based attacks. The guy filming on the bus is also the guy who asked Spider-Man to do a flip in Spider-Man homecoming. Wong was fighting the abomination the villain from The incredible Hulk movie looking more comic book accurate. There's no real explanation on why he looks different the overall theory is he just evolved naturally like the Hulk turning into smart Hulk. Also smart hulk is supposed to be his permanent form the combination of Bruce Banner emerging his consciousness with the hulk unable to return to normal Banner.
The Aunt is played by the GOAT Michelle Yeoh. She is the foremost female martial artists on the planet. Trained by and started out her career with Jackie Chan. Awards wise she's got a few Oscars, a couple of BAFTA's, some Golden Globes and a heaping ton of other's from her career that started in the mid-80's.
3:49 Maybe you recognize the tattoo from the first Antman film. One of the buyers for the Antman suit had the tattoo and was a representative of The Ten Rings Also, Klev, the guy breaking down the first fight is the "do a flip" guy from spiderman homecoming
I hope you had a Merry Christmas and enjoyed New Years! I am glad to visit with you both again to watch a Marvel movie. Katy is one of my new favorite characters (not super powered). I didn’t know anything about Shang-Chi when I first saw this either, but I like him. The elegant dance of martial arts has always impressed me and adding the ten rings to bring acrobatics and magic to it.. pretty cool. Great comment to lead into part 2..
Yes the 10 Rings have been sprinkled around the MCU since Iron-Man, the problem is you don't really notice because upon till this movie, they never addressed it, its kinda just there in the back ground.
I'm ok with how they changed the power of the Rings for the MCU. In the comics the Mandarin held each Ring on a different finger giving him ten different powers. Left thumb "Daimonic" emit energy along the electromagnetic spectrum. Right "Remaker" rearrange atoms/molecules speed up or slow down their movement. Left index "Incandescence" emit infrared radiation creating heat blast of varying temperature. Right "Influence" creates a concussive force; impact beam. Left middle finger "Lighting" emit electricity blast of varying current. Right "Spin" uses air creating a high speed Vortex beam. Left Ring finger "The Liar" magnifies the wearer's own psionic energy; mentally control people, transmit orders, create illusions. Right "Spectral" creates a disintegration beam that takes twenty minutes to recharge after using it. Left pinky "Zero" emits waves of cold temperatures creating ice blast; can lower the temperature of objects zero. Right "Nightbringer" can create an area of absolute darkness absorbing all light within it.
I actually felt so bad for Wenwu, he loved his wife so deeply and was so desperate to bring her back. I wanted him to live and make up with his kids more but did love the little moment & flashbacks we had between Shang Chi & his Dad. I think the dad was actually my favourite character in this movie, perhaps it's mostly down to the actors great & moving performance.
Before Hawkeye you might want to watch 1 season of daredevill to get more payoff for the series finale but it will be a quite a investment since daredevil is a 13 episode season but it is a very good show. Dark and gritty very different to what marvel disney + has been doing.
I’ve not watched many marvel reactions since endgame but I couldn’t miss this. Such a refreshing hero and style of marvel film in a while. Hopefully you guys start the Daredevil series.
The begining of the movie had rapid time jumps in telling the story, and with no refrence to a sister in the beggining, we just thought it was a fast transition from baby Shang-Chi to toddler Shang-Chi ;)
@@robtrinreact2825 understandable but it’s rare you guys miss anything so it was surprising particularly as Rob commented on the hair. Still a great reaction though so thanks
I like to think his comment about 'Everytime I try to drive a bus I get yelled at' comment is because he kept running into crazy circumstances while travelling on busses from NY to SF
Fun fact: the guy on the bus giving commentary on his phone was the same guy from Spider-Man Homecoming who yelled for Spider-Man to "do a flip" in the street in New York. His name is Klev.

In the comics, Shang-Chi was the son of Fu Manchu Yes, THE Fu Manchu But then Marvel lost the license, so they haven't done anything with his father since But for the movie, they decided to make him the son of Iron Man's nemesis, the Mandarin
I was a big fan of the Shang Chi comics in the 70s. It was very popular at one time and ran for over 100 issues. This is nothing like that comic. At the time, Marvel had gotten the rights to Sax Rohmer's Fu Manchu character and Kung Fu movies were huge. Shang Chi was the son of Fu Manchu and his look was based on Bruce Lee. He ends up turning against his father and working for his father's archnemesis Sir Denis Nayland Smith. It was more of an adventure/espionage story that had little to do with fantasy and Chinese mysticism and more to do with James Bond style adventure. In fact, one if the supporting characters was drawn to look like Sean Connery. I get that they can't make Shang Chi the son of Fu Manchu as that character has fallen out of favor and Marvel no longer has the rights. But I kinda wish this was more grounded like the comics and less about magic and CG monsters. The only thing that survived from the original comics was the villain Razorfist (the guy with blades on the ends of his arms).
Big fan of this one. It's probably been the highlight of the post-Endgame movies (not including the Spider-Man movies that have come out since then). Just a fun movie.
You guys would have been better prepared if you had watched the Marvel One Shot “All Hail The King” with Trevor Slattery in prison getting summoned by the REAL Mandarin.
There's only so much time in the day for people that already have real lives, jobs and record and upload every singel day, there just wasn't really an easy spot to fit it in xD
@@HIPsteHeero It’s barely 10min long, is on Disney Plus and they wouldn’t need to make a video out of it. My point is that they would not be as confused about how the character wound up where he did post Iron Man 3.

Wenwu is one of the better antagonists the MCU has done.
the actor, Tony Leung, is a bad ass... him and Chow Yun-Fat are epic in Hardboiled, makes John Wick look tame.
Agreed!
for a kung fu movie, i do suggest checking out The Grandmaster (specifically the longer cut screened in Asia). Tony is even better in that movie.
Tony is one of my top 3 favorite actors. Amazing skills. First saw him in Hard Boiled, fell in love. But I think Chungking Express is my favorite of his.
Shame he still got "one and done" treatment :P
This movie is so damn tight and I feel like it is criminally overlooked.
