    The dunning Kruger effect of credit cards is starting off with Chase and thinking it's for beginners, and then getting Amex, and then going back to Chase as a more experience credit card user and realizing that the convenience and the greater point value of Chase makes the trifecta the ideal core credit card setup.

      I still think Venture X + Savor duo is the best
      You are getting paid $30 to have the duo on top of everything the Venture X comes with
      Yes because you can't transfer to Hyatt the points aren't as valuable as Chase, but it's still REALLY good

    If you are spending less than $1,111 per month with 3x freedom unlimited everywhere then you’re better to have the $200 bonus instead. Thats the amount you need to spend to get more than $200 the first year. Unless you do a lot of dining or travel with it.

    • @I..cast..fireball
      @I..cast..fireball ปีที่แล้ว +11

      It's worse than that. You are only gaining an extra 1.5x by losing the $200. 200 / 0.015 = 13,333 for year or 1,111 per month.

    • @kyxz018

      Additionally, I’ve seen the $200 sign up bonus come with 5% cash back on grocery & gas station purchases for the first year. If most of your purchases fall within these two categories, you are still getting 5% versus 3% (the 1.5% base + 1.5% cash back match). So the $200 sign up bonus might be better in that situation as well.

    • @I..cast..fireball

      @@scgenemuidenkevin yup. The new offer sucks. I had a family member apply recently for the 200 + 5% just in time before it got nerfed.

  • @nikhilsethiya884

    Let's say I spent on 10k on 1.5% category that will give me 150$ cashback, and 2k on 3% category that will give me 60$ cashback, So cashback becomes 210$ and chase will match it. BUT the thing which is not highlighted is, If we take the other option of chase, where we get 200$ as welcome bonus which is effectively the same. Only if the spending on this card, is more than this is when we can get maybe a bit more, but otherwise its the same. Let me know if otherwise.

      Depends on your income and your age. If you are 20+ making a large amount of money, or you bank with Chase (checking, savings, etc.) you will likely get approved for the cards without a long credit history. If you’re younger or don’t bank with Chase, or you have a young credit history (under 2 years) you may not get approved. It all depends on your credit score, your credit history, and if you bank with Chase previously. Exceptions obviously apply.

Would you recommend submitting all the applications concurrently for approval, or should I be concerned that applying for all four cards at once might result in four individual hard inquiries on my credit report? Do you have other cards you in stack? If you have a strong credit profile and understand how to use credit cards I don't see a point in waiting to get the preferred. But if you don't have much experience or other cards I would go Freedom Unlimited first.
      You can decide between the 2 bonuses (public offer for $200 after $500 spend or elevated unlimited cash back match in first 12 months)

    Hi John, your video was very informative.
    I just got approved for Chase Sapphire Reserve. I also have Chase Freedom Ultimate. My family of 4 is planning in going to Philippines in December 2024. I'll be buying the plane ticket soon as it opens. Since I don't have points yet and the cost estimate is roughly $10k round trip, what's your strategy? I'm new to travel points. Pls advise. Thank you :)

      I’m not John, but maybe look into the Chase Business Ink Unlimited (which you don’t need a formal business to apply for or hold). It has a $750 sign on bonus, contingent upon $6k of spend in the first 3 months. And some other nice perks ;)

      Start with the Chase Rise card or Discover IT card. Chase Rise will introduce her to the Chase ecosystem that is relatively easy to be approved for, and the Discover IT card is VERY easy to acquire for any beginners.

      @vincentcolon7216 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the end goal is to build a diverse portfolio, then you can have her apply for the capital one ecosystem. Data points as well as several videos suggest that capital one loves sub prime customers. If hesitant on whether she will be accepted or not, there is a pre-qualification tool for their cards. I would opt for capital one platinum, quicksilver or savor one.

    *John* (or anyone else), do you think the freedom unlimited card would be worth it for me if I only spend $400-600 per month on my credit card? I think getting the $200 default bonus would just be better in that case.

    • @mickjay933
      @mickjay933 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because at least, I would be spending $400 per month, which is $4,800 a year. That would only give me back $144 in cash back if every purchase was 3% back.

      While on the positive side, spending $600 a month, which is $7,200 in a year, if always at 5% cash back, I can make $360 cash back. But I highly doubt I will hit that number.

      Applying for a card only lowers your score by 5 points max. In addition, anything above 750 is considered amazing credit so you don't need to worry at all for your house purchase.

    • @StraightUpRainbows
      @StraightUpRainbows ปีที่แล้ว

      I admire your yearning to stay at or above 800, but there isn’t really a big difference between 750 and 850 to banks when applying for loans. You’ll get the same rates at an 800 score as those for someone with 850, for example. Of course, you should only get credit cards you’re comfortable acquiring and can naturally acquire value from them, but the benefit of this combo is very strong.

      @@lasoota555 Think about it, Vegas offers perks, points, and prizes if you gamble. Credit cards do the same song and dance albeit by different means. They make money, when you spend money. They make you play these no-so-straight-forward games designed for you not to fully understand or wear you down as to not participate. You can maximize your odds, but like Vegas the house never loses. You might THINK it's a dumb analogy, but what's your take?

    • @averageguy1261

      @@lasoota555 Let’s break this down: both Vegas and credit card companies are masters at luring people in. They entice you with sign-up bonuses, giving you a taste of the rewards to come. But here's the catch-these "prizes" only accumulate if you spend more. The rules? They’re often confusing, even vague, designed to prey on human weaknesses. Sure, you can become an expert and try to game the system, but in the end, the house always wins.
      The reality is, we’re paying for these so-called "points." Vendors factor the cost into their prices, and credit card companies take an additional cut by offering you "rewards." Just look at the numbers: Visa made $33.35 billion, and Las Vegas casinos raked in $9 billion last year. They’re not making that money because they’re losing. So, let me ask you-who really is? Maybe not so dumb after all.
