    Dumaguete is not built to be a tourist city. Infrastructures aren't even built to cater to tourism but still expats are coming to the city. So if your visiting Dumaguete as a tourist don't expect Dumaguete to cash you out for a gimmick like how bohol is.
    Dumaguete will not treat you as a tourist, it will treat you like you are a local. So if you're in Dumaguete, try to be a local and mingle with locals 🙂

    When you do find the ultimate place.....keep it TOP SECRET so others dont ruin it....we go there to get away from it all. I used to be a photographer for a Surf Magazine and I would find incredible surf spots....and the locals would threaten to hang me from a tree if I told the world about the spot.

      it's impossible to keep anything like that a secret in this digital age of smart phones, digital nomads, TH-cam travel vloggers etc, and getting threatened to reveal a spot sounds extreme.

    Once the tourists start showing up kiss paradise goodbye. Witnessed so many places in Thailand ruined by mass tourism. In the case here foreigners start tossing money at the Thais and the costs for everything start soaring. Seen dozens of tourists often drunk that have never have driven motorbikes. In a three day period in one location watched three tourists die . Anyhow one reason i keep my secret lovely places secret . The last thing i want are foreigners showing up and ruining the place.

    • @GiointhePhilippines
      @GiointhePhilippines  4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      That is the problem, rest assured when I find the ideal spot, I likely won't vlog about it and keep it secret :-)

      @@GiointhePhilippines I seriously suggest you do that. My latest town not long ago was foreigner free until some idiot wrote a article about it. Now half of Pattaya moved here with the dregs of society . The only thing that keeps the numbers down are no girly bars so they import them. As with everywhere once these types move in the locals attitudes change because of these characters. The only thing that saves me is i have been here longer than anyone so the locals know me well and am the only foreigner that speaks Thai here.

      It's not all bad, the tourism brings money and income which helps a lot of locals survive, the spending power is much greater which brings money into the local economy. Many of the tourist areas in SEA absolutely struggled to survive with no tourists during the pandemic and now are only starting to get back on their feet again.

      South East Asians like foreigners very much especially European or white Caucasians.they feel proud and find way to converse in english once they see a white man nearby.thats why white Caucasians foreigners would always think the SEA natives are friendly.but only to foreigners...to fellow SEA man...is different.

    Christmas coming up so at least you are in the right COUNTRY, they LOVE christmas over there! You SHOULD try something else, go somewhere else, do not settle down anywhere. I just arrived Tokyo. Expensive as hell, but seeing new places makes it worth it. You might end back at Dumaguete another time, it is not gonna go somewhere, the place is gonna be there. Now it is time for a NEW experience.

    Dumaguete is being fed by a limitless power from a Geothermal Plant in Valencia, that i think is powering the whole Negros Island and Southern part of Cebu.
    The brown outs are planned maintenance not short of supply like in Mindanao in Maria Christina Falls Hydro Electric Power Plant.
    And twice in a week is an exaggeration. There are maintenance brownouts for different areas in a week but not twice a week in one area.
    It maybe that the Power Company is now in constant maintenance mode, clearing trees and bushes from the grid as December and January will be Typhoon season for the Visayas and Mindanao region

    I still love my own birthplace Dumaguete, being away from Dumaguete since 1991 up to this present , I was so impressed that lots of progress every time I will go back for holiday. I met my foreigner husband here in abroad and he loves Dumaguete so much, infact we bought a property in Valencia and build our house there now. So if it is your choice not for liking our place Dumaguete be it , wherever you go places in Philippines it is expensive, there are ups and down, there is no cheaper places now. Wherever you go traffic is anywhere. Mind you, not all Filipina are bad, there’s more descent as well. So shock of you just go there Philippines searching and dating Filipina girlfriend, why there that infact there are Filipinos all over the world. Good lock to you . Just be careful. Even other nationality you can experience bad lady behavior. It was in the list that the best retirement place to stay is Dumaguete and I agree for that. I am proud to be a Dumageutenos .

    It sucks as a Filipino when Foreigners visits us and Expects to have a perfect girl here in the Philippines. Are you perfect when you arrive here? Do you expect us to treat you as a God as soon as you arrive here? Let us be mutual. Where ever you came from or what country are you from. If I have the money, could I have the same Expectations like you as soon as I arrive in your native land? Please be fair.

    Haha, it's always good to travel to new places when you're free to go wherever you please. Don't get into the settler trap. It's interesting that you want people to notice you. As an Indian, I kind of blend in wherever I go here in Thailand (well, sometimes i get stared at) but I hate that feeling of being "out of place". I'd imagine i'd blend into the phillipines a bit too.

    I love your honesty. coming here for a long time, yes I noticed right away how you are right about girls here.. much more expecting things (demanding). mostly done the foreigner experience,and hard to meet them especially if they have something to offer. i also noticed a kind of duplicity.. people seem very friendly but if they don,t need you they act as they don,t know you.. to me girls are more weird you never know what to expect, or what crazy foreigner trip she graduated from when you meet her and she has been through it , lol. cost of living minimum 1700 to 2000 dollars if you want to live and eat like a middle class foreigner. i come here for the nature, gave on on the chicks.I have one , very pretty but rude controlling , and costly lol. I know the city well

    Is 'brownout' an American expression? You mention them here and also in your review video of Dumaguete. I am English, and I've never heard of such occurrences called anything other than 'power cuts'! I eventually realised what you meant because of the context in which you mention the word! Plus in this video you do actually later mention 'power outages' which is more self-explanatory. Anyway, thanks indeed for all your very helpful videos on life in the Philippines. I am coming out for an exploratory vacation soon, with a view to possible retirement in the country.

We're back in Hong kong now, but we are leaving in January too and we want to live somewhere together in SE Asia. We were going to try Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, or back to Dumaguete.
      We found though that the foreigners are mostly rough around the edges, jealous types, not very well educated or civilised, and many of them are getting into trouble and giving foreigners a bad name mostly. Because I had these beliefs the rough ones did not like me.

    I agree, if you are single and looking for a young girl to go out with, that is a problem. Words get around. It is not like in the states. Most women in the states , they do respect your choices, this is what i know. Just don't 2 time them. Pinays are one of a kind. You find out yourself. Most Pinay women are the best ever. Make sure you respect them.
    I know a married white guy married a Pinay during the olden days. They are now retired and living in Dumaguete. The are still in love. My white guy friend is a fluent Tagalog and and Bisaya speaker. You probably met him. His name is Bud Brown. He is a frequent visitor @ a coffee shop . Good luck whatever your goal is, hope you find it.

If a man is serious about finding the qualities in a woman that fit well with him for partner for life,why would he just date one during his single era? I'll adapt to there way in many areas but not that one. It's us that have to live with our choice in the end.

  • @dennybe
    @dennybe 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Probably shouldn't go to the Manila metro area or AC or Cebu or any of the larger cities if traffic is a big issue. I live in AC for 3 years now. Foreigners everywhere here unless you decide to live in the provinces. AC is a good little compromise for me, I live around the outskirts but still have any amenity that I may need. Not many brownouts here either. Its a good base of operations and convenient to get out and about. Clark Airbase is here with its airport so catching flights to all of the island destinations is very easy. Just throwing it out there for you. Come on up, the waters fine. Apt/condos ranging from 10k -45k, up to you. I pay 11k for 2-bed condo 2 ACs, 1km from a major mall and highway access. But like I said earlier, traffic is everywhere if you don't pay attention to the school times and work hours. Best of luck to you Gio...and hey, how about a follow back(mine is just a small little channel, nothing insightful hahaha).

    what do you like about Kuala Lampur?? I already found my provincial Filipina, she loves me, and we stayed in Dumaguete and Valencia for one month to check it out.

    Hi Gio. Just to put in my 2 pesos worth I've been to quite a few places in the Philippines and really prefer a place that's a bit bigger. I like to have the better variety of food and more reliable internet and electricity. My wife was living in Antipolo when I met her and I rather like it up there but I also love Iloilo City as well as San Fernando Pampanga (where I'm relatively certain we'll end up eventually). I like the cities big, .. but not Manila big. ;)

      Pampanga being close to Clark/Angeles is also a target area for ex-pats. My fiance lives there, nice - but also has infrastructure issues - not many places in Phils do not.
      We have a saying in Australia, if you want to live here, live as the locals do, don't complain about the down sides (weather, infrastructure etc.) - if you want to complain and don't like where you are - leave and go home!

      here is the reality... new expats are fearful of the unknown. that's normal, i don't blame them for it. so where is a new expat going to go? answer: they will go where they have the most information. places where vloggers have shown them what to expect when they get there.
      when i moved to bohol and began showing the area, suddenly expats began making that their destination. because, they knew what to expect. i moved then to dumaguete, same thing. i moved to cebu for a year, same thing. i was meeting them in the ayala mall most days of the week.
      but 'blame me'? no. if there's any 'blame', it's guys who didn't do what i did. i went to an area WITHOUT any pre-video tours or information. i went NOT knowing what to expect. if more expats did that, they'd be scattered all over the PH instead of going where a 'scout ant' like me already showed the path.
      but i don't think of it in terms of 'blame'. no wrong was committed. people simply went where they had the most information.
      as for duma, yes it's more crowded but truly look at all that oncoming traffic in the streets. it's not more expats, it's more filipinos who have moved into or work in duma. as for the boardwalk and Rob's mall... again, expats hang out there in droves because they won't jump on a bike and explore the hills of valencia, the beaches of dauin or bais. they continue to congregate at the boardwalk and Rob's mall instead of venturing out.
      end result; expats at the boardwalk and Rob's mall (the 2 main social hubs in duma) are a dime-a-dozen. and it affects the dating pool.
      one final thing to remember about dumaguete before laying 'blame'... i moved there in 2014 and it took me a few months to begin sharing about duma. meanwhile, Forbes magazine had already showcased Dumaguete as one of their best chosen places to retire. needless to say, Forbes has a much higher viewership than my youtube channel. so if 'blame' has to be laid (not that i think it does), first look at Forbes' part in sending expats to Duma.
      www.wheninmanila.com/forbes-names-dumaguete-as-one-of-the-best-places-to-retire/
      bottom-line... if you want a place with less expats, be adventurous and "get out there", explore. this is what Gio and I and others are doing.

    • @Lifebeyondthesea
      @Lifebeyondthesea 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tinotino9952 a 'bad reputation'? seriously? you mean from people like you who spread lies about me. trading in false-gossip stewed in your own jealousy that i'm actually enjoying life in the PH while your experience remains lame.
      i've got news for you, "men date women". it's called having a social-life. just because you ended up on the sidelines is no reason to go bad-mouthing those who are actually enjoying life. it's what you did 5 years ago and it's what you still do today. obviously, your situation has not improved.
