The design team on hasbro has stated that they listen to community feedback. To say every rerelease or improved retool is purely a preplanned move to make people double dip is just silly. Not to say hasbro doesn't do that, cause they do, but sometimes the team just wants to fix a problem. That's why we got half the 86 line.

I dont necessarily agree with what you said when you said that the fans "have to keep buying" the remakes and such. I think its pretty well known that the main G1 cast will be tweaked, altered, and repacked again and again. Not everyone started collecting at the same time so some people rely on those refresh sets to start their journey in our collecting community. You have to sell and few bees before you can get (i forgot the rest of the og quote) a Deathsuarus. I think something that a lot of people dont consider when being frustrated about updated figures being released is that Hasbro has changed a lot when it comes to toy design and the materials that they use. If you compare an original transformers figure from the very beginning to one now, theyre almost nothing alike. Thats exciting and amazing! Without constantly trying to fix problems and improve their figures, we wouldn't get the amazingly detailed and posable stuff that we have now. After the first movie line in 2007 was a huge success Hasbro decided to put some of that extra income into issuing re-issues of the figures with premium paint jobs. Fans complained back then too. But no one is forcing you to buy anything. You can pick and choose what you want, and these days its even easier with leak lists that are all but confirmed to be accurate. As an example, I bought TFOne Sentinel Prime knowing full well there's going to be a bigger and more complex version of him coming out in Studio Series next year. I know this and I still bought the TFOne figure because I wanted to get my hands on the character. So I have no room to complain when I do double dip and buy the SS version next year. And I won't, because I'm not an entitled manchild.
@@meolammerz6771 I think it's pretty disingenuous to think that firstly there aren't fans who explicitly do this, and secondly that it isn't their criticisms that are a part of the driving force behind this practice in the first place. Sure new fans get to benefit from the advances and figure remakes, but they are merely a calculated bonus. Yes we are getting better figures out of it, but it's still a raw deal if you happen to have bought the ones that came before that you weren't happy with, and it's especially egregious when you find the newer "better" ones occupying shelves at the same time the previous iterations are still warming pegs... I recall seeing in one of those interviews there's no time limit on remaking characters, but when Earthrise, Kingdom, and SS86 Arcee are all on the same shelf of the same aisle at the same time it's clear things have gotten screwy.
If you are talking about the same video, I'm thinking about. One of the points that bugged me was "let something be rare because I want bragging rights" Have they SEEN what happens when a figure "gets rare?" Studio Series 14 Ironhide and 32 Optimus Prime went for hundreds of dollars on the second hand market. Getting the 2007 Autobot 5 pack meant you got 3 "free" figures because the other 2 were so sought after. That's how bad it gets. Package Refreshes and multipacks are a good thing because the worst that happens is you have to sell stuff that you don't want anymore.
Oh My God I heard that part and winced. Im tired of shit being rare and hard to find because of that BS. I just want cool figures to go with my other cool figures and have fun collecting without worrying about the pricing being outrageous
I mean I'd say paying for a near identical figure and all in all spending more for the same figure everyone else got at a better value offer when they reissue it with objectively better upgrades is kind of the worst part. Not mad everyone gets one but why do I get saddled to sell a figure nobody will want because a better reissue is coming out leaving me with a bin copy that at one time was at least something you could trade to someone if you hated a mold. Nobody wants half of the figures I upgraded in my collection because they are 2 year old siege toys that are inferior decos now. The number of same character repaints and rereleases during the siege and legacy Era is crazy coming from someone who got back into the space in 2020.

Maybe some better examples can be pulled from Warden’s prior time as the lead. Do you remember Titans Return Sentinel Prime? Titans Return Voyager class Megatron and prime? Yeah the brand unification but still, we’ve been getting back to it since premium finish started Hasbro only stocks these repaints on pulse and nowhere else’s so idk why there’s a problem with it. If you don’t wanna buy it don’t buy it. There’s no foresight with these repaints. Repaints are designed for 2 reasons. 1, money, and 2. To give people another opportunity to buy a figure that was scalped or short packed.

I don't think collectors have a duty to 'get the version you want'- as many people in this fandom will tell you, if you haven't bought a figure within 3 months of the release date, it's on you if you aren't able to get it later. Hasbro's distribution is still absolute ass, after all- I literally never even saw the Velocitron collection.

I'm not collecting anything from the Unicron trilogy, or TF Prime etc, yes I saw the shows, I just don't need figures of those series. I'm only sticking with G1/G1 Japanese, Beast Wars/BW Japanese, and Car Robots 2000 aka RiD 2001. Also the G.I. Joe x Transformers are an absolute yes to me as G.I. Joe was also part of my childhood. Yes also I bought the Autobots United 5 pack cause for Hound and the animation colors, my Earthrise Wheeljack, Sunstreaker, and Trailbreaker will go to one of my nephews who I got into Transformers
Someone below mentioned that he and other collectors will always have to keep buying updates and... no? No we won't? ER Optimus came along and was everything I'd ever wanted in an Optimus. And I'm still happy with him. So much so that I'm passing on Commander Class SS '86 Optimus even though that looks impressive. It's nice but... I have a version I'm happy with. Why spend more on an "upgrade" I don't need? If I'm just running off G1 characters who are my faves... Optimus, Starscream, Cliffjumper, Bumblebee, Soundwave... between ER and the Netflix line, I got pretty good versions of all of them. I'm already passing on SS '86 Optimus and Bumblebee. I'll probably pass if the others in that list get updated, because I'm happy with the versions I have. Hell, I know people who didn't even get the Netflix and ER versions because they were happy with stuff from the Classics '06 line! You- as in collectors- don't have to buy every new toy for a character, and are under no obligation to. You buy what you want, and you emphasize what figures you have that YOU like and are content with. Neither Hasbro, TakaraTomy, or anyone else is forcing you to purchase updates, package refreshes, or character redesigns if you don't want them or can't afford them. As someone who doesnt really follows transformers/hasbro toys. I just think hasbro like most corporation it's primary money driven rather than fan driven. A lot people who dont complain prefer G1 and thats where the money is. I think it is like pokemon gen1 will always where the money is.
TJOmega is a great guy and great channel but yeah parts of that video are BS. Kingdom and 86 blaster for example, were YEARS apart, no way Hasbro planned that. At the same time though, I think it's a bit stupid to never get a figure just because a better version *might* release in like, a few years. I would rather just get a new version a few years later than have to wait a few years just to get my hands on it.
People who are constantly complaining about this type of stuff suffer from three major problems; entitlement, FOMO, and a small wallet. If they got any one of those sorted it will take care of the other two but they will keep placing the blame on everything else but that.
Having been part of the fandom for... Uhhhh... 1999? Oh God... Folks have been swearing up and down Hasbro actively hates the fans and works against us and as people cycle in and out, those sentiments will persist because unfortunately it's just the nature of online discourse. As for Thundertron. I liked the regular release of Thundertron more than the multipack. But I also wanted Nightstrike. Plan was to get the multipack and see if I could trade Hookhand Thundertron from the pack for somebody's regular version. But then a couple weeks ago, Amazon dropped the price on wave 1 Thundertron to 20 bucks and change and I caved because I'm weak. So, I played myself there.
The Better version thing is subjective. I prefer Lio Convoy in Legacy version, anime look for him doesn't work for me in a toy form. Also if Hasbro would release that design first with all the paint and sold it at Leader class(because they don't put that much paint on Voyagers, so they would had to bump him) people would complain that he is too expensive.
Ummm?, 1st thing is.. Hasbro/paramount get rid of Lorenzo di Dipsh*t!. Being a fan Gi Joe it just boggles my mind this guy is even listened to. He is tanking both Transformers and Gi Joe and you have to see this. He is most likely a big reason paramount is gasping for air. The biggest problem I have with for example Studio series blaster is the fact that it's just a direct repaint. Didn't change any of the molding to make him look more sure accurate even though he was pretty close. Anyways, they could have still gotten that extra mile. Also, why give him the serious expression when the tooling for a more joyful face was present with twincast? I agree with you. Like 99%, but there's just a few things that frustrate me about some of the decisions that the brand team has made. Made but who knows. We could end up getting another Studio series 86 blaster that is a completely new mold so who knows

Having been part of the fandom for... Uhhhh... 1999? Oh God... Folks have been swearing up and down Hasbro actively hates the fans and works against us and as people cycle in and out, those sentiments will persist because unfortunately it's just the nature of online discourse.
As for Thundertron. I liked the regular release of Thundertron more than the multipack. But I also wanted Nightstrike. Plan was to get the multipack and see if I could trade Hookhand Thundertron from the pack for somebody's regular version.
But then a couple weeks ago, Amazon dropped the price on wave 1 Thundertron to 20 bucks and change and I caved because I'm weak. So, I played myself there.

The Better version thing is subjective. I prefer Lio Convoy in Legacy version, anime look for him doesn't work for me in a toy form. Also if Hasbro would release that design first with all the paint and sold it at Leader class(because they don't put that much paint on Voyagers, so they would had to bump him) people would complain that he is too expensive.

Ummm?, 1st thing is.. Hasbro/paramount get rid of Lorenzo di Dipsh*t!. Being a fan Gi Joe it just boggles my mind this guy is even listened to. He is tanking both Transformers and Gi Joe and you have to see this. He is most likely a big reason paramount is gasping for air. It just saddens me to see my childhood ripped up and vomited in my face.

The biggest problem I have with for example Studio series blaster is the fact that it's just a direct repaint. Didn't change any of the molding to make him look more sure accurate even though he was pretty close. Anyways, they could have still gotten that extra mile. Also, why give him the serious expression when the tooling for a more joyful face was present with twincast?
I agree with you. Like 99%, but there's just a few things that frustrate me about some of the decisions that the brand team has made. Made but who knows. We could end up getting another Studio series 86 blaster that is a completely new mold so who knows
