I have always said this since i was a teenager. I was born in lagos. When my father had issues with his business we had to travel back to our home town in the east. I have also travelled to some part of the western states. You will find the nicest set of people in the villages and also the most tribalistic set of people in the villages as well. The reason is because their fathers have been programmed to hate other tribes. Why do i say this? I when I was in school primary, secondary and university we never differentiated ourselves by tribes. But it's the most recent election that almost triggered that tribal bigotry in me. After some self reflection I realised that we are being played! Like this gentleman said in this great talk. That tribalism does not apply to them they employ it as weapon to distabilse and further their own goals. - Ps: Sorry for the long text and probably bad grammer. It's 4am and I'm still half asleep. 😂

I don't think he has a psychology degree, but he hasn't required one to say this deep truth. It takes a certain kind of knowledge, education, and/or revelation to see it, but only one that comes to the curious mind, I believe.
Hatred is like that "presentable" mask for fear, which is easily bred by ignorance. It's what we exhibit when we won't let ourselves feel vulnerable and acknowledge our fear/ignorance. And funny thing is that that can be re-inforced/normalized in certain climes (like ours) to the point it becomes the norm.

You would be safe as long as your number is not growing, and you are not contesting any political and economic power with them. Even the UK is divided along tribal or ethnic lines. You are one of the ignorant immigrants who don't know that the major tribes in the UK formed the four kingdoms: England for the English,Northern Ireland for the Irish,Scotland for the Scots and Wales for the Welsh. And of these kingdoms have their own army under the royal British army. As Nigerian immigrant who naturalised as a British citizen, you can only be British, not scot,English,Irish or Welsh. The difference between tribalism in the UK and Nigeria is that the UK created an autonomous state for each of their tribes.Comparing tribalism with racism: Both are mot the same.

A lot of divine inspired wisdom nuggets in there. Thanks, Dele Farotimi for being a true nationalist, a compendium of wisdom, an authentic leader and reliable voice of reason whose light illuminates our dark Nigeria hate/tribal space. My respect for you is incresdingly sky high and i value any time i spend listening to and learning from your well reasoned helicopter view point.
You and Peter Obi are my true champions and leaders!

We love him, he is sound, what has he used his soundness to do for his country? Is it to criticize the government? Why not use his God-given wisdom to make an impact, being a critic helps no one, getting involved is the only he rule his world and make an impact. So I don't regard his wisdom

@@chineduemmanuel6978 The problem with a lotta of y'all is you let emotions or sentiments over ride your logical reasoning. Do you think secession is by agitation, killing, sit at home or mayhem? There are laws and rules of the land and ones recognized internationally. UK had to split from Europe through a referendum not by causing all sorts of atrocities, killing or agitation. More so, our constitution do not make provision for a referendum should any region decides to leave and no thanks to your Nnamdi Azikwe who ensures that wasn't included in our constitution so as to keep this marriage together by force with reasons best known to him else Igbos would have had the constitutional right to leave so blame it on your kinsman Azikwe. With the present situation, if any region does call for secession is an act of treason, the same Ojukwu did that ended causing the Biafra war but a lotta y'all are Gen Z and feels like secession is by word of mouth only or aggressions or causing mayhem. You'd rather pray never to experience war in your lifetime cos it'd be a child's play to you till it happens then you are faces with realities of war.
