  • As there is not one on TH-cam, I have recreated a Tyne Tees Startup in 60's style.
    Includes Three Rivers Fantasy.
    Enjoy!!!

i have been searching for this for years, what a beautiful piece of music and brings back so many memories of waiting for T.T.T.V. to start up on the old Redifusion television, many, many thanks.

The announcement on Tyne Tees always came at the end of the start up music. "This is Tyne Tees Television, broadcasting to the north east of England from the Burnhope transmitter of the Independent Television Authority" This later became "This is Tyne Tees Television, broadcasting to the north east and North Yorkshire, from the Burnhope, Bilsdale, Pontop Pike and associated transmitters of the Independent Broadcasting Authority" Final adjustment was to drop Burnhope when 405 line VHF was turned off. The picture switched from the Picasso test card to a Tyne Tees logo just as the 'ting ' from a triangle was played, near the end of the music.

Even though the Three Rivers Fantasy really only represents the Geordie part of the North East and completely ignores Teesside and the Tees Valley, it still conjures up lovely memories of waiting for Tyne-Tees to start up of a morning.

If you listen carefully, the music incorporates the tune to the rhyme Bobby Shaftoe. The real Bobby Shaftoe is a big part of North East - Teesside in particular - history as he was once Member of Parliament for the Hartlepools.

Like Sentineldg8 I too remember sitting looking at this screen and listening to this brilliant piece of music waiting for telly to start. The harp intro and Blaydon Races bit at the end is classic.

The 'ITA North East' Piscasso Was Used From 1964 To 1968. ITA Burnhope Was From 1959 To 1964.

caseybellafc is nearly right. The Picasso used after 1964 said North East England, never just North East, The TTTV caption was never used like this-always as an animation, and never after 1964. When the animation was being used, the Picasso would have said Burnhope. So wrong on just about every level.

Great Music quality and a good attempt and although I dont wish to be picky The 2 idents you have used both ceased being used by TTTV in 1959. So you might want to retitle it as a 1950's start up. Still good though and what is a decade between friends..

Perhaps I am misunderstanding but TTTV surely did not even begin broadcasting until late in 1959? I remember watching as a 5 year old the very first broadcast when the Duke of Northumberland gave his speech to open the new service.
