Hey Guys. To solve your shower fitting problem you can get 1/2 inch thread extensions at different lengths and they are exactly for that purpose. Its normal that you have to extend the thread of the fitting when fitting a shower or tap through a tiled surface.. All good.

  • @balintmolnar2684

    Hi
    Some suggestions
    1. For siliconeing: You should mix some tap water with some liquid soap in a hand held spray bottle(like an empty window cleaning solution bottle). Keep this soap and water mix next to you. Then you go ahead and apply the silicone. Once it is on the surface you spray it with the mix THEN! you can use the plastic tools to pull the excess silicone off. The water soap mix will prevent the excess silicone to stick to the surface around the silicone line you create. You can reduce the hours of cleaning.
2.For the short tap pipe issue: Please google “tap extender/extension”. These are usually made of brass one end is a “male” thread and the other is a “female”. You can buy those in various diameters and lengths. Please be aware that you will need a special tool (google> tap extender tool) to be able to screw that in. It is like a hex shape tool with various steps on it for the different sizes. Both the tap extender and the tool for it can be usually bought at pluming shops.
I hope this will help you.
    Keep up the good work!

      Oh, nooooo‼️
      DO - UNDO. 😢😅
But the good thing is that there IS a solution to extend the pipe.
Wish you better luck next time.
And WAOW it looks great with those tyles! 💪👌🙂

Heroic people! I have DIY'ed three bathrooms and at 17th min thought of telling you my two bathroom revelations: 1) for siliconing corner seams (joints, as you call them) use masking tape and finger - you'll get straight seams and finger cleaning is much easier than tile cleanup; 2) for fitting fittings always keep spare plumbing extenders, both straight and ex-centric ones of various lengths. Best of luck!

Yup, putting a line of painter's tape on both sides of your grout lines will give you perfect silicon caulking seams every time and saves the clean up.

    • @majamogens
      @majamogens 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

No - not masking tape, it is too thick and leaves a thick edge when removed. Use the thinnest wrapping tape instead. To smooth the joint, dip your finger in a little dishwashing liquid.

As a tiler for 31 years I can honestly say silicone is more difficult than anything you definitely need to use a soap solution spray over the clean off will be alot easier but still doesn't make it easy you've done a great job of the whole bathroom well done 👍 🎉🎉🎉

I understand spending a lot of time on those joints. You don't have to have OCD to be annoyed by a wonky strip of silicone, and for the next 50 years you'll notice it every time you take a shower. Doing it right is time well spent.

Two things about filling the joints in the corners between the tiles with kit. 1. Use painting /masking tape to get straight lines. 2 after placing the kit with the kit pistol, always use water with dish washing liquid to push the kit into the joints. Otherwise the kit lines will never be strait and good looking.

A tip when jointing the floor, make the joint compound quite loose, then just lay out a layer and scrape (preferably with a rubber scraper) the compound over the joints, scrape carefully so the tiles are as clean as possible. let it dry for half an hour and wash, it will be a lot of washing, but don't be in too much of a hurry to wash completely clean, better to let it dry then just use the floor mop.

In the UK there are chromed radiator tail extensions that would work on your shower hose. They are imperial sizes (1/2") but quirkiliy come in metric lengths 20mm, 50mm and various others. If your shower is entirely metric there may be a similar product locally. Cleaning tiles after grouting is a real pain. I found that having cleaned most of the excess grout, whilst the grout on the tile surface is still damp, dry paper towels clean effectively. Cheap and disposable. Don't beat yourself up about silicone.... it's truly a 'black art'. You need lots of practice which only the professional installers get. One of the tricks used, particularly on boats is to use tape. Press the silicone firmly into the joint using a finger moistened with water.. Clean the excess from your finger regularly, paper towels again. The downside is that removing the tape leave a small ridge, but again damp finger, light pressure, tidies this up. Do small sections and aim to complete before it skins over.

For the next time you tile, use the sponge diagonally. If you go down the line, you take the filling out, if you go 90° to the line, one side of the filling will be higher than the other. So Diagonally is the way to go. Also change your water more often. At least every 5m2, you will save so much time cleaning afterwards. If you choose to get one of these fancy tiling buckets with rollers on it, you can tripple the squaremeters before changing the water. Use one Bucket for cleaning, and one for fresh water.

And how could I forget my shower tiling project where I made a lovely design using strips of black tile within a plain white background... beautiful. Until my lovely neighbour told me that his carpentry workshop behind the party wall had a damp patch. The plumber had left a leak, the whole lot had to be hacked off. You need to make drawings with the right length of the male part, I.e. depth of the female part, intermediate part and outer diameter that fits in the hole of the wall.
If there isn't a part like that in the DIY markets you have to find someone with a metal lathe.

Hi guys, brilliant job there on the grouting. Two tips for the siliconing of you corner joints. One is to mask it off with tape to your desired width, apply kit, use silicone pad and remove tape. The other one is to use a special product for this which makes life really easy on jobs like this. That is a Mixed Finisher from Den Braven Sealants, put in your silicone bed, spray over with the finisher and use your silicone pad to finish the joint. There will be hardly any residu left. We use it for sealing windows as well and it works a treat!! Happy days!! Cheers Bert 🙏🏻❤

I've had success with sealing corners by using masking running on both sides of the corner. You choose how far away from the corner you want the material to go. Apply it and use the corner tool you've been using and the excess goes on the tape and the lines are perfect. No real cleanup is necessary. Just don't have too much thicknesses of it or you will get a ridge and it will look weird.

Hi guys! Another awesome vid, a tip for the hazy residue is just to let it dry up. Once its dry get some fine steel wool and you can sand it off, doesnt take any effort at all, and doesnt dammage the tile, you will need to get most off before hand like you already did though and paterned non smooth tiles will take some more effort. After that just rinse it off with water anyways you guys did great!!!

Just put silicone around the handheld unit - you’ll forget it’s there in a few days/weeks/months. Looks great

I am pretty confident that you did but I learnt from my experience that its a really good idea to put a mold and waterproof solution with the grout but know it can also be added later too. It helps with mould and water permiating through to the wall

There is never a threaded coupler around when you need it (Insert expletives in where ever you think they are appropriate). But look on the bright side, the Bathroom is looking good and when it's finished it will be a 5 Star Bathroom.

That difficulty at the end is no big deal. You need a male/female adapter to bridge the gap, that's all. You will probably need to modify it for length, but it's not the end of the world.

Exactly. I've had to rejig pipes at various times over the years and have collected all sorts of spares just in case.
