Just be happy you have a Barnes and Noble because now that Best Buy and Target stopped selling movies physically, the only store that I can physically go and buy any new movie at is Wal-Mart 😢 I do buy quite a few of used bluray's and 4k's from my local Goodwill's and other thrift stores. Out of 1,350 bluray's and 4k's I would say around 1000 were bought just in the past couple of years from the local thrift stores for $2.99 or less.
That's exactly how my Walmart is. Way back at the beginning of 2024 when they first started carrying steelbooks after Best Buy stopped selling movies, they had quite a bit but now my Walmart looks just like the one you were at at the beginning of the video. I did buy the Red Heat bluray because I already own all those other titles in 4K except for Red Heat which I didn't really care to own in 4K so I bought the Wal-Mart exclusive Blu-ray with the cool 80's retro designer slipcovers. I own the Lionsgate 4k steelbook of the original movie Young Guns and is a great release and a decent transfer.
I really wish I had a Barnes and Noble store...... even with way fewer movies and no Criterion 4K's, there are still movies there I would buy in a heartbeat!
That's why I would love to have a store like Barnes and Noble, so I know when I buy a movie, it will have a slipcover or whatever. I have pre-orderd multiple titles that have arrived around release day without the slipcovers from Amazon. I pre-ordered Aliens 4k, came without a slipcover, I pre-ordered Alien Romulus 4k, it came without a slipcover, and I pre-ordered House of Dragons season 2 4k, it came without the slipcover. Do you see my dilemma? If I had a Barnes and Noble, I would know exactly what I'm getting. I love to physically go and buy movies in store. I used to love going to Best Buy back a few years ago and shop. Sadly, all I have is Walmart 😢.
i almost bought the Smokey and the bandit 7 movie (3 movies plus tv movies) dvd yesterday. Mainly for the artwork on the slipcover. lol But youre right, not much reason to buy dvds anymore
I went to my Barnes and Noble yesterday and was planning to pick up some stuff I didn't get the last time I was there. Sadly, I struck out. Everything I hoped to pick up from last time was gone. I was really hoping to get a copy of the last video store. The hunt continues...
I followed your recommendation, Chase. and bought myself the "Fright Night" 3-disc steelbook from Amazon Italy :) Cost me around 50 dollars with shipment but it seemed pretty much the best option. It is a truly GORGEOUS steelbok! :) Movie-wise it's almost a blind buy but for your recommendation.
All my Walmarts look like yours, but I did luck out and get Jackie Brown there today. My Barnes and Noble has a big criterion section but basically nothing else, so pretty much the opposite of yours 😂
I should be getting my very first Arrow purchase, the Tom Cruise Legend movie on Blu-ray. 😊 I used your 5 dollar discount (I hope it worked right). From another platform I'll also soon be getting the 1927 Wings movie and 1920 Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde, as well as Mel Gibson/Joaquin Phoenix Signs movie and 1960 Magnificent Seven. 😊
Hey man, completely agree on “Hand that Rocks the Cradle” - a similar film that is also great (and seemingly forgotten) is “Sleeping with the Enemy,” with Julia Roberts. Very tense. I enjoy your hunts! Peace.
@AVAPopCulture just looked on Criterions site, and the player is no longer OOP. It is available to order. If that's the case, I think a 4K might come later this year.
I can't believe My Cousin Vinny still hasn't gotten a 4k release. That was a hugely influential '80's comedy, it still is and it would sell on 4K, what gives??
That one you showed The hand that rocks the cradle, great movie. For some reason it makes me lump it with single white female, and Sleeping with the enemy. Three great movies. I heard they were remaking one of them seems like it was single white female. Really enjoyed the hunt.
Your Walmart and Barnes and nobles look just like mine here in NC 😢 barely any stock ever, I have to order everything online mostly if I want it or I won’t get it because very few actually make it into stores and with 4K it’s maybe 2/3 copies. So I feel your pain😅 also was very suprised to see inglorious bastards 4K at your Barnes and nobles, ima gonna have to check mine I need that but it’s sold out online right now
Sorry you didn't have much luck on that hunt. Walmart is weird, different stores have different sizes of movie sections, the best one in my area is about 30 minutes away. And I wish B&N carried more Arrow in general. They tend to have plenty of Criterion but a lot less of the other boutiques...
You can still order Criterion there in the store with an employee and they can have it shipped to the store so you don't have to pay for shipping, same with Arrow, and basically anything that Barnes & Noble carries but isn't in your store. Also, your Walmart has more than mine, so yeah, it can get worse my man. lol
My game exchange has stopped buying any DVD’s and is only buying or selling blu rays or 4k’s, got lucky on my neverending story imprint 2 weeks ago and today got a special edition soundtrack to put in the empty space in the case
I think their brick-and-mortar business in general is on the decline, and they’re just using physical media as a scapegoat because it’s their least important inventory. They replace the shelves with puzzles and books, but I wonder how those are selling. I bet they’re not flying off the shelves either, probably worse.
I dont know...every Barnes and Noble I have been in over the last 2 weeks has been packed to the gills and they are opening 60 more stores this year....I think the problem is a lot of the cheap crap at WalMart and Target is easier to get at Amazon, and they dont carry enough of anything else to make up for it...it isnt a good shopping experience either...people like going into nice stores, grabbing a coffee or something to drink and snack and walk around and shop (that's why Walmarts and Kmarts used to have good snack bars) but now they put no effort into the experience so you may as well get it on amazon...
Nice hunt video! Hey Chase, a little side thought, if you have the knowledge and would ever like to explain exactly how seamless branching works, I'd love to know. Just watched the Zodiac 4k and they slapped the director's cut on a bluray. It was all of five minutes longer. Why couldn't they have added it via seamless branching to the 4k?
thanks man! the way I understand it, (and I have never needed to do this personally) BUT during the disc authoring process) they will have the main version of the movie that runs a "straight line" through from start to finish just like any other movie on a disc BUT let's say they want to add the "Pizza Hut" 20 second different scene in for Demolition Man (as in the international version) instead of putting the whole movie on another disc in order to have that scene, they will encode that 20 second sequence separately and during the authoring, they will kind of "set that clip on top" of the main movie sequence and set the authoring to tell the player to bounce up to that other clip depending on the version selected in the menu and then bounce back to the straight line (or base) movie line...I am guessing it depends on what is changed...if the director's cut is 5 minutes longer, they may not be able to bounce to the extras and then bounce back to the main theatrical "base line" because instead of moving up to a different part then coming back in line with the base, it could have to bounce backwards or forwards in the baseline too far (and it may not be able to do that)...I am not 100% sure on it when it is different lengths
Here in New Jersey, my MalWart stores are such a complete joke, I don’t even visit them anymore. Every film I WOULD buy, is DVD only. The shelves are 30-40% stocked, on a GOOD day. They “took over” from Best Buy, but honestly, why do that if you simply don’t give a crap about it in the first place.
With all the major shoplifting going on over there {UK copying you all now}, and the stores just letting you walk out, i'd just take all those nice slip covers off and walk them out. Will they arrest you for stealing cardboard i wonder.
If they have problems with people not paying for what they bring home…they should not put STEALBOOKS in the shelves! Tadaaaa!!! Thank you! Thank you! Well, you sure have alot pf stores around as I see it. For me it is travelling 20 years back except we did not have blurays and 4K. Lol Cool! Not seen the player. Big recommend?
Dude... always speak your mind....your Walmart sucks....I have 3 in my neighborhood they all suck....book Off go online and find out what the store is all about

Arrow Video Barnes & Noble 50% off SALE 4k BLURAY HUNT! This one is interesting! Pop that tape in, I got you, let's go do this!
. . Youngblood is a great flick. I know you'll like, truly, You won't go wrong with a blind buy on it. All kings of 80liciousness. . 😎

13:13 hey, Crossroads. That’s a really good Walter Hill movie
yes it is! I bang the drum on that one a lot on my channel lol!!! It helped inspire one of the movies I made!

The Player is awesome. I’ve owned that one on VHS, Laserdisc, DVD, and currently the Criterion Blu. Love the Burt Reynolds cameo.
I am long overdue a rewatch of Turbulence. Had it on VHS when I was a lot younger. Same with The Player.
OMG love Youngblood Great movie!! 🥰
Brick is on my wishlist, Ima grab it if it's ever less than $20
Youngblood is a solid sports drama movie. It just came back into print. Its also a very early Keanu Reeves movie.
Barnes got me for 120 I bought torso, the warriors, the addiction, and hellraiser quartet of torment
I forgot about The Player! Haven’t watched it in years. I just got it on the Criterion site. If anyone else is looking for it they have it for $32
NICE! They finally have it back!??
@ yes! As soon as I watched the video I went on the hunt 😂
I tried to keep my DVDs but DVDs are just a waste of space at this point.

That’s a bummer but that’s part of the fun of the hunt, right? lol
Youngblood is fantastic buy immediately

Super detailed tour! Thanks!
It was a fun day at the store! lol
Burbank CA is the center of the California film making yet our Walmart Superstore only carries DVDs now

Good vid! I'm glad you mentioned that barnes and noble had The Player blu ray cause I ordered it immediately after watching this video
thanks! glad you were able to grab it! it is going for big $ on ebay and out of stock with Criterion!
@AVAPopCulture just looked on Criterions site, and the player is no longer OOP. It is available to order. If that's the case, I think a 4K might come later this year.
What are your top 10 favorite sword and sandal strongman movies?
I can't believe My Cousin Vinny still hasn't gotten a 4k release. That was a hugely influential '80's comedy, it still is and it would sell on 4K, what gives??
Kick-Ass and Scott Pilgrim double feature this weekend, Chase!
I love Kick Ass! (look for it on an upcoming video!)
that walmart has 5 times as much as any of the walmarts around me...i just glance through what they got and laugh..such a sad amount of items.
That one you showed The hand that rocks the cradle, great movie. For some reason it makes me lump it with single white female, and Sleeping with the enemy. Three great movies. I heard they were remaking one of them seems like it was single white female. Really enjoyed the hunt.

What is your plan for "saving" the DVD art when you get rid of the case? Binder? Something else? Thanks!
i all ways think its bad business if a shop is low in stock. How do you make money when you have nothing to sell.

@AVAPopCulture Thanks for the informative response! I've always loved the idea that they could do that kind of thing with physical media.

@@AVAPopCulture Maybe you should do a video on the subject to clarify the issue since the article came out yesterday. Put people's minds at ease.
