    Designer of the hugely popular Ice Light, international award winning photographer, Jerry Ghionis, has now reinvented the staple in every photographer’s tool kit with the Omega Reflector. Manufactured by Westcott, the Omega Reflector is the last reflector you will ever need. The Omega Reflector combines the effect of a traditional reflector with the luxury of a beauty dish and a ring flash, offering the ultimate lighting control.
    In this video Jerry explain how to use the Omega and shows some examples of it in use including some RAW straight out of camera images to understand the power of the Omega.

    That idea has been floating around on my head for awhile but o never pursued it. Just like a beauty light but sun powered and the color is guaranteed to match. Thanks for developing it and posting the video.

    Guys, instead of bitching that this reflector makes it look like the models are photoshopped to hell, you can feather it so that you get the contrast you want in your exposures. Common sense really. But you CANNOT fault this reflector for the convenience, uses, and gorgeous lighting this provides. Your backlit portraits will never be the same, and as much fun. I love mine.

    You can make some kind of patch to fill the hole and it will became a normal reflector when needed

  • @einfussganger
    @einfussganger 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Brilliant, except for the rectangular hole and subsequent odd catch-light. Unless you're standing a mile a way with a long lens and trying to match the shape of the viewfinder/sensor, it makes no sense. I would see this used 90% of the time for headshots, close in where a small round hole would have been much better. Make another version with a round hole and I'll buy two!
    Oh, and BTW (@ 19:45), you have updates that need to be installed ;)

    Even though I didn't mind the square catch lights, I solved that by making my own Velcro modifiers for the center. Bought a cheap 5 in 1 and made different circle sizes for different scenarios.
    I reinforced the hole as well to avoid tearing. Love it.

    Why cant someone come out with a 5 in 1 (or more) reflector with the white and the silver on opposite sides so you don't have to unzip, turn inside out, put back on and zip up again to get to the two sides, I think, are used most?

      I think Rogue offers such a reflector. They have one with silver/gold weaved together on one side and white on the other. Check them out.

    • @jasonbodden8816
      @jasonbodden8816 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's not a solution for him, though. That silver/gold weave is a much better version of the typical gold side; it's warm without the sickly yellow tone of the gold.
      Rogue makes a 2-in-1 Super Soft Silver/Natural White 32" reflector that's the answer to what +Ryan Daugherty wants.

      Do some research and improve your photography. A true photographer legend like Ansel Adams never pitched any product, yet he was brilliant. Create your story, ideas and compositions. I don't find this chap any better than a list of 'A" category guys right here in the US yet they don't pitched crap on you. I still remember him pitching a very expensive ICE light sometime ago. If you do your research you can find a much better alternative with awesome construct soft cylindrical vertical & horizontal narrow band light form Yungnuo for fraction of a price. Look for awesome photography teachers with classic work who don't pitch products to make their bank account grow at the expense of guys like you. Stop following start thinking my friend.

    • @shoeflystudios5903
      @shoeflystudios5903 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you use a meter to determine your exposures? Balancing the exposure of ambient light along with the power of the flash will go a long way to improving your results. Good Luck!

    • @jasonbodden8816
      @jasonbodden8816 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Once you've gotten the angle of your speedlight and flash power right you'll be good to go. I'm guessing you needed to tweak it. It won't magically be great results right off the bat. Like anything else you need to tweak your flash settings to get what you want. In this case the angle the flash hits the reflector matters a lot as well.

  • @shotbyjesse70
    @shotbyjesse70 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hahaha! Hands down, the first shot without the reflector (on your first model) is absolutely gorgeous, and blows the reflected shot out of the water. With the reflector, she loses her strong character and starts to look like just another barbie doll model. "Perfection" is in the eye of the beholder. It just looks like you photoshopped the hell out of her, imho

    • @jasonbodden8816
      @jasonbodden8816 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ivan Ivanovich You can feather the light how you want it when using this reflector to get more contrast, or turn your model so she isn't completely and flatly lit. Just common sense really. The purpose of this vid is to show you how beautiful the light you get is in general, along with the other things you can do with it. This is a great piece of kit.

      +Admeralsarms They should think....themselves. WESTCOTT & Mr. Ghionis don't need help from a blob with a personality disorder. They are uber successful working photographers. People need to THINK for themselves! Don't buy gear because some as*hole tells you to. I love how people take TAP's advice despite the fact that he seems to have no work to show + is a miserable human being. Clearly somethings not working for him.
      That said, IMO this reflector is a game changer. :) But that's my opinion, and it means nothing on it's own.

      Now I know this is a long shot, because I’m not dealing with a rational human being. I don’t believe in demons, and heaven….hell….God…. The Easter Bunny etc. That said, I’m going to give it back to you real slow in hopes that you can “compute’.
      Homeboy above mentioned that this big corporation (Wescott), and an internationally acclaimed wedding photographer (Jerry) are some how indebted to you (TAP) because you suggest that people buy their product.
      Now (are you still following? Moron.) I simply pointed out, that these two entities don’t owe his ass shit, as a matter a fact, I’ll double down and state that HE owes them- which is why he pays for their marked up (but good none the less ) products.
      2nd, I stated that photographers should think for themselves, and should not be buying gear based on someones recommendation. Particularly if the person in questions is a visibly disturbed, mentally ill, “faux-tographer” that doesn’t seem to have any work to speak of.
      You’d think that someone who wants to position themselves as an authority, or someone who’s opinion should be respected, would display their work. In this industry your portfolio a very large part of your validity.
      I find it hard to believe that he is a working photographer. I think he is a pathological lier. Like all good lies, there is a bit of truth mixed in.
      Don’t take hard advice from assholes who haven’t made it.
      Photography is a lot more than taking good pictures, and If I was a prospective client, I’d run for the hills.
      Why is the “Angry photographer” angry? Anybody?
      Because he an’t healthy (mentally or physically)
      Because he’s lonely. I can see it in his eyes.
      Because he an’t workin’
