    hey Linus, you should make a video splitting open heat pipes from different manufactures to show the different ways they are made. like whether one manufacturer uses sintered, or mesh etc.

    Hi linus
    Can you please make a video about this surround sound 7.1 5.1 digital analog and about all this shit?

      Mohamed Emad Essentially all it is is two things.
      The numbers (for example, 5.1 or 7.1) mean how many drivers (i.e woofer cones) an audio system has. The number before the dot is how many (regular) speakers the system has, and the number after the dot is how many subwoofers it has.
      The whole analog/digital lingo is pretty simple too. Analog is old technology. If a sound card sends analog signal out, it essentially are the pulses of electromagnetism needed to drive speakers. At that point all the receiver does is amplify that signal. In digital the audio card sends out a stream of binary data to the receiver, which post processes and then converts to analog for the speakers.
      The benefits to digital is simply that conversion to surround sound can use less cables, as you don't have to run three or four different audio cables from your PC to the receiver, which is the main post processing task of digital receivers.
      Hope this helps.

      A noise cancelling headphone produces a sound wave similar to the sound outside towards the direction of the source of the sound i.e in the opposite direction of the coming sound waves, these waves cancel each other hence the name noise cancelling.

    And here I thought a heat pipe was just a hollow piece of tubing that just worked by the very nature of heat conduction/transfer from one metal to the next. Never knew there was so much that went into it. Really does demonstrate why 2 very similar CPU heat sinks can perform differently.

    Bad wicking ? Fan not having enough static pressure ?

    Can you do a video on Ambient Occlusion? I have no clue what it is and I feel it is much more simple than it sounds.

    • @halsoy
      @halsoy 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It's not a tech quicky, but I can still give you a short rundown on what it is. Ambient Occlusion (AO) is technically just a way of generating the values of which a surface reflects light.
      It calculates how light is supposed to be reflected off of a surface, based on the reflection of said surface. It's a very simple way of doing it. It's basically a "shadow map" that the game engine puts on top of textures to give it "fake" shadows. It's used together with ambient lighting, which is just a uniform light that shines on everything (think of it as the sun), and AO makes a texture map to represent where the proper shadows should be.

      If you look at the interior on the chamber (provided in the video), the are webbing of wires in the chamber. They are there for a purpose. In a closed system and in a vacuum, the fluid have no where to go. This will create an equilibrium using osmosis effect so the vapor will have room to travel to the cooler part of the chamber and the liquid will take its place where the vapor left. Imagine a sponge. If you place the sponge flat, squeeze the water out on one end and have water added on the other end, water on one side will travel to the area where the water is squeezed out through osmosis. That's why a vapor chamber (and heatpipes) can work upside down so this application can work in space too.

      And that confirm on my findings on other review sites. I think due to the vapor chamber being more rectangular, the vapor isn't traveling efficiently into the heatpipe to radiate the heat. The vapor chamber and heatpipe combo is a design flaw. It should be a more traditional solid block look with the fins act as a "heatpipe" with angler shape in the vapor chamber which leading to the fins to direct the vapor more effectively. This design will be a combination of horizontal and vertical vapor chamber design.

    Cooler Master TPC 800 tower CPU cooler uses a vapor chamber technology as well. But it's so big + quite expensive, so You gujs might considet buying an all in one liquid cooling kit, like i did. I was about to buy a CM TPC 800, but considering it's weight + I needed 2 extra hight quality fans for that thing and comparing total price for the complete CPU cooler, I realised that I woud not fit more than 2 sticks of RAM and I went for a Corsair H100i. It costed me less than 100 EUR. Then I've changed stock coolers with Bitfenix Spectre Pro PWM and I'm as happy as little boy could be.

  • @dwightlooi
    @dwightlooi 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Simple Answer: A Vapor Chamber is a heat pipe that is shaped like an irregular box. It operates on the same exact principle and is not any more efficient given the same coverage and contact surface. But because it can be stamped into whatever floor plan you desire and does not have the additional walls of a multiple heat pipe design, it usually have better coverage and contact area. It is more expensive because stamping dies are expensive and they typically require perimeter laser welding which is also expensive. At around 4~5 pipes a vapor chamber reaches cost parity with heat pipes, not counting the tooling.

    1:45 Wait.. isn't copper's heat transfer coefficient really high? For all I know silver is the only metal with higher heat conductivity than copper

    • @MrZhilvinas
      @MrZhilvinas 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +daradidam Copper is actually 'meh', but its good enough relative to its low cost. Silver is much better than copper, and gold is a better conductor still but very rarely implemented due to obviously high cost. Also: as soft as copper is it is still much stronger than pure silver/gold so can be much more easily used for structures like coolers.

    • @daradidam
      @daradidam 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      MrZhilvinas In what way copper is meh? Copper have a very high heat thermal conductivity @ 385 W/m J. Silver is 406, while gold is 314 and aluminium is 214. Therefore, the best heat transfer materials is Silver>Copper>Gold>>Aluminium

      +daradidam its still very low compared to a liquid pump/radiator design. Vapor chambers are essentially moving part free liquid heat pumps. Physically moving a hot material and cooling it off somewhere else is much more efficient than waiting for it to travel through copper.

    • @daradidam
      @daradidam 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      LouSaydus So, you're saying that copper heatsinks/vapor chamber are still inefficient compared to a liquid cooling system? That makes more sense, and I can agree with that.
      Now that you've mentioned it, I realized that radiators does enjoy two huge benefit over heatsinks: much greater surface area of heat transmission and freedom of choosing the location of said transmission.

    • @SianaGearz
      @SianaGearz 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      +daradidam No, i don't think you read Lou correctly. Both (1) Heatpipes and (2) vapour chambers AND (3) actively pumped water cooling provide an efficiency of heat transfer orders of magnitude higher than a solid piece of metal, because rather than waiting for the heat to propagate through the material, all three cause the material to move.
      The thermal resistance of a piece of metal is lower with increasing cross-section and higher with increasing length, which means small thick heat-spreaders work pretty well, but if you need to transfer heat to distant fins, the thermal resistance works against you. Active watercooling and heatpipes still have a cross section dependent thermal resistance, but the length becomes almost irrelevant. Whether heatpipes or active water cooling will be better is implementation specific, it's impossible to make a general claim, though better thermal coverage in water cooled radiators is indeed common.

    Why don't the heat pipes DIRECTLY connect to the vapor chamber as a single loop, kind of like AIO liquid coolers. That way no metal is involved in the transferring of heat

      I'm not Linus, but you really can't go wrong with a H100i, it moves heat about 10-13" out the back of the case via a Rad.

    This revolutionary heat dissipation technique is what increased the popularity of reference design graphics card. Sadly, this vapor chamber technology was introduced after the housefire GTX 480, those damn heatpipes on that card can't do crap..

    Please explain to me wath does this mean "Effective memory" , many graphic cards has 4 gb of ram but only 2 is Efective memory wath does it mean?

    • @jameshealy4594
      @jameshealy4594 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cards with multiple GPU cores have the memory for both, but due to the limitations of both crossfire and SLI, they can only use half of it. Same restriction applies to individual cards, so I have dual 780s but they combine for 3gb of memory.

    There’s a giant vapour chamber inside the Razer Phone 2. Is the cooling good and efficient enough? Or is it counter productive having a huge vapour chamber inside a cramped smartphone with no active cooling fan blowing out the heat?

    Anything on phase change cooling? I've read a lot on the technology but I'm still a bit confused the types of gasses, the metals heat transfer capabilities at the temps. on Wikipedia I see -50 c through -150 c, but In practical situations what are the temps, hardware protection from moisture. Thanks.

    Relatively inefficient heat transfer of copper might not be the best way to put it since copper is one of the best metals for heat transfer... It's more because phase changing can absorb more btu but copper still has great heat transfer properties that's why good waterblocks are copper and most stuff in the hvac/r trade is copper

    I find it hilarious People are here after finding out Xbox Scarlett and Lockhart has a vapor chamber but they soon forget or didn't know that Xbox Scorpio is the first gaming console in the world to have a vapor chamber which is why it's able to produce native 4K HDR 60 frames per second or if you prefer 1080p/1440 HDR 120 FPS 😎👍 and the best part is it's extremely quiet 😍👍 However there are some people here for the PS5 but you'll be disappointed It does not have a vapor chamber instead they have a gigantic heat sink with a gigantic fan inside which is why the PS5 is so huge due to the massive heatsink and the massive large fan plus it has a liquid metal on top of the APU chip Plus It's very power efficient all of that combined the PS5 is able to stay extremely quiet no matter what game you are playing 😍👍
