This song was my introduction to HF. The lyrics stopped me in my tracks and I immediately had to find out who these singers were and the name of the song. I went done that rabbit hole about 4 years ago and still love them and this song. Thank you for the reaction.
It goes without saying that the singing, harmonies & beatboxing were perfect. "Is it always in the blood?" is such a deep question and it's such a good song. Incidentally I think Home Free are terrific at inserting an acapella break in an acapella song! And older HF video I think you'd like is "What we Ain't Got". Thanks for playing this, your comments & reactions.
This one resonates for me because my mom was a little nuts and that left scars. "How much of my love will be insane to some degree?" I have always aspired to recall her good qualities but not become the crazy part. If I open my mouth and hear my mother coming out, it brings me to a complete halt.
Your reaction to this was very touching. Some lyrics and harmonies just resonate deeply in our emotions, and Home Free can deliver them with mastery. It's great to see you coming back to HF so often. They never disappoint me.
When John Mayer released this song I already loved it. The lyrics are really something to think about. But I think this version has something more. All those different voices at exactly the right time. Adam keeping it simple but perfect for this song. It's on my favorite playlist.
@@thomasmacdiarmid8251 Yes Adam is incredible. He can certainly go wild if he has to. I sometimes wonder how much energy he must have. He is inhumanly good
Isn’t it good?!! You’re not the only reactor to have feelings about this one. It’s pretty powerful. Love Tim’s voice. And then Chance and Rob come in…perfection! Good reaction Mayze. God bless you. Your mom is smiling from heaven!😇
The more you listen to home free the more you will realize that they always put the music and lyrics first. The lyrics of this song are so powerful that they choose to do it simply. Even the beatboxing is just a sound of a heart beating. It makes you pay attention to the lyrics, not the vocal gymnastics.
Only someone that appreciates music could understand the message that they are sending out. The song was enough by itself that it didn't require any runs or insane high notes. This was truly just a pure and honest song that hits hard for a lot of us. Thank you so much for your reaction. It is greatly appreciated.
Great reaction! I love Home Free's version of this beautiful song. They really brought out the emotion of it. Tim's lead is amazing with his deep bass. Also love Rob & Chance's solos plus the great harmonies. And Adam is tasteful in making the simple sound of pounding his chest & thigh. I believe we can change our course in life. We don't have to make the same mistakes as our parents. We can choose to rise above it.
Props to John Mayer for an excellent song. But as with so many songs, Home Free makes all the lyrics so clear and impactful, without neglecting the artistry. For that sense of frustration over a mother passing all too early, I'd suggest you give a listen to (and watch the video as well) NF's How Could You Leave Us?
You need to react to Chance' singing Wayfaring Stranger featuring Hound and the Fox. It's amazing and you will hear Chance like you've never heard him before.
This Home Free interpretation / harmonies is in the top 5 of my favorites for Home Free as the sentiment and their presentation and who sings what is off the charts amazing!!! I just don't want the song to end and it certainly brings family and spouse front and center in my heart. 💖💯💢❤🔥💫
Home Free's superpower is eliciting all the feels. They dont need to show off vocal gymnastics, just to tell the story and do what the song requires. John Mayer wrote an incredible song and HF performed it well. Please watch the Stargazer Trilogy by HF. Give Me A Sign and Stargazer Lilies just came out. We are anxiously awaiting the conclusion.
Love your reactions! So raw and so honest....keep them coming! The line 'What about this feeling that I am never good enough' gets me every single time. A few great emotional ones from Home Free; What We Ain't Got, along similar lines to this song, I Can't Outrun You, a great one with Chance as lead, Love Me Like That, a Home Free original written by Austin after his last break-up to name a few.
This is the most emotional and striking of their whole catalog to me. It is also my favorite. We do not have to follow in our parents footsteps- we can strive to do better. I find that a very hopeful sentiment.
Love Tim on this one. I think this is the song that made him my favorite member of the group, not to mention my favorite bassist across the board. We all have a favorite - don't lie! lol And he's mine even though I 100% love all of them all of the time. Regarding the lyrics, my experience is that the answer to this question of being "in the blood" vs. "wash out in the water," the answer is actually both. Inevitably, it's mostly "in the blood," but depending on a person's ability to overcome that, it can "wash out in the water," too. Nature vs. nurture is a very hard concept to find a clear, definitive answer on, and I personally think it varies. Great reaction, as usual.
Oh,Mayze, everyone is hit by this song because there is no such thing as a functional family. My heart breaks for you. We have come to love you. We're here for you. The divorce cake was funny. So you are a sweet, funny guy who will get the best. ❤❤❤
Tim is a dragon! I always feel like he’s holding back with his voice, and if he didn’t he’d hurt people. Lol Rob was beautiful in this one too. And Chance’s voice always feels like he completes every song he sings.🌟❤️🤗🐝
My mother had a severe mental illness. I have less serious issues. I ask myself how much of herself she left in me every day. Is her past my future? Every word of this song hits me like a sledgehammer.
Something a little different - Chris Stapleton - _What Are You Listening To?_ Live @ the radio station. Home Frees - _The Driver_ is one I think you'll appreciate too. Looking forward to hearing what you think about them both 👍
This is one of my favourite songs of theirs for the same reason as you: it resonates strongly with my life, except that my mother passed away just before Christmas, so this was my first Mother's Day without her. I love the simplicity of the beat, and those gorgeous harmonies, not to mention the message that speaks to my soul.
It took me about three times hearing this song before I realized that not only was Austin *only* signing harmony, but so was Adam. We so rarely get to hear him sing and I really enjoyed the opportunity. Thank you for an honest, moving reaction to a very emotion-filled song. Subscribed for more.
HF sometimes leave a silence before starting to sing. It’s like starting with a rest. It’s part of how they’re presenting this song. Same for Helplessly Hoping. The quiet sets the stage for the song. Enjoy your appreciation of the music. ✌️
You are not the only one that has lost parents, family or has a lacking love life/broken home. We are the sum of what happened to us - using it to make us stronger - yet kinder is difficult - but something to stive for. You are awesome.. :)
One of my favorites they do and as always, hits you right in the heart for most of us. Yes, this was a tough one to start out for you that's for sure! They do an incredible job of this song. And your sweet smile when lyrics hit you I loved watching. Time for some fun one of theirs. Maybe you have done this, but Workin For a Living is super fun and Chance takes the lead. There are so many, of course! Have watched them do the ultimate mashup of Chicken Fried Pop!? 17 songs by 15 artists they mash together, Austin arranged that one. Keep them coming. We are here for you!! Home Free's fans are super loyal and a family. I've been lucky to go to 7 live shows and cannot wait for the next one. They are incredible! Take care.
Please make a HF playlist. I love going back and binge watching (or listening to) reactions while I'm painting and I can't stop and start each video. Great reaction
Really enjoyed your reaction. I love this song and I will forever be thankful to John Mayer for writing this masterpeace. That said I don't enjoy him singing it, it's Home Free all the way for me ....
They do several, many songs, with an individual start. Guess we need to keep diving... 😉🥰🥰 Never set expectations from these guys. They constantly surprise us! 😉🥰🥰🥰
My father's family was all insane to some degree. He broke the chain. They are all gone now. Dad was a loving and kind man. His brothers, sister and parents, not so much. My mother came from a family rife with suicide. Yes, this hits home.
The song itself is amazing and with the people who sing it, and it makes me appreciate my mom and what she does for me and what kinda love goes my way or for anyone. Hope everyone had a good day today ❤
Mayze, you can only imagine the millions of us have who have no Mother/Father anymore just like you, who are estranged from our children or our siblings. I finally found the love of my life at the tender age of 54. Never give up thinking that you aren't worth it. Relationships are 100/100 not 50-50 as they want you to believe. This is just pure honest, heart-felt lyric that anyone can hold onto. New subscriber.... keep it coming.
I'm 50 y/o, and my mom has been gone for over 20 years, but everyday I surprise myself, when I open my mouth and she comes out. I just wish I could tell her one more time how much like her I am. She enjoyed hearing that, after telling me for years I would be like her, and I denied it, so to have me admit it, it tickled her every time. Ok, who started cutting onions? Hell I'll admit it, I'm crying, I want to hug her just one more time.
Sorry if it hurt. We have all got a share of this. My mom and I had a tumultuous relationhip, and I am a 3-time loser in marriage. My four children suffered for it. It affects us all in some ways.
Hey, that's my city. Rocky runs up the steps of the Art Museum. You have a good attitude about every genre of music. I know. i lost my mom when I was young. She would be very proud of you.
You need their Everything will be okay! If you enjoy their smooth tones and blending harmonies, One Man Band, Moonshine, Alde Lang Syne will kill you! And if you want to die slowly, painfully: try Mom, To the Moon and Back, One Voice and their latest two Give me a Sign and Stargazer Lilies (Austin wrote both of them for his girl!) Lost my mom 2 weeks ago. Been avoiding those and dreading Go Rest High on that Mountain (The video). Great review! You don't always have to be upbeat. It's the pain evoked in some of these songs that make the music great!
Give a listen to For King and Country "Unsung Hero" This will pull the heart strings My son chose this for the mother son dance at his wedding this past January.
I just came across an Austin Brown original (song only, not a video) that I'd never heard before - it's funny as hell and I'm sure I hear Tim Foust singing on it. Because of the instruments I wonder if it was done on "Sweet & Low Music Co.": th-cam.com/video/kgSBRCZM6H8/w-d-xo.html
The whole first stanza is about mother. That a mother's love can be somewhat insane and that many women don't feel they are good enough and will those feelings be passed down to the offspring. The second stanza is about the father and the third is about siblings. The entire song is about family and can one overcome one's upbringing or is one's behavior baked into one's blood.
so very personal to me too....these lyrics are from the sensational John Mayer
one of their best

Definitely. What We Aint Got is one of my favorites.
@@kmwwrench It's largely ignored by reactors, but it is excellent.
It's not just that Home Free is insanely talented, its also how they interpret and convey the story of what they sing. Keep up the great reactions.
Lots of us are hit hard by these lyrics. This version is so well executed. Thx HF and Mayze

Yes, sometimes vocal gymnastics are not needed!
That extra level of harmony we get when Adam joins in on the vocals is always special. The body percussion allowed him to join on this one.
I love that Adam was using body percussion on this one. Fits so very well with this song. Adding his lovely tenor to the vocal blend is such a treat.
Tim wrote this one.
