Somebody is getting ready to bless me! Thank you Pastor Vernon for this powerful teaching. I'm glad we are not bound by the set amount of 10% tithing anymore and that's because it's not by faith (Galatians 5:18 NLT)! Tithing was put in place by God for his people in the old testament as a way for them to honor him for who he was and to show appreciation for the crops and animals he provided them with-this is how they survived and they only needed to give 10% once a year (Deuteronomy 14:22-23)! God will guide our giving based on what he knows we can afford or according to his purpose for us or someone else. He will meet us where we are and then as we obey and grow in him, increase will come and we will have more to give (2 Corinthians 9:8). The enemy has deceived the church into thinking that we still need to pay tithes so that the church bills can be paid (Malachi 3:10), but this was just a word going to his people based on the requirement during that time. They were not obeying the requirement. But now, if we give what the Holy Spirit tells us to give (and give cheerfully- 2 Corinthians 9:7), the needs of the church will still be met and increase will come from that. Hallelujah! Anyone reading this can apply it and pass on this great news so everyone can be free and have peace!
Keep in mind that any tithe that we have given with a sincere heart has been received by God and he has blessed us through the years because of it (he met us at our level of understanding so we are not condemned). But moving forward, he wants us to adhere to the New Covenant law in our giving, which is by faith (discussed above).
