Yo BalkanOdyssey, what were the background music tracks you used for this video? I really enjoyed them

Because he is a young dude who doesn't know any better, was Yugoslavia great?
No.
Was it better then anything we ever had?
Yes in a huge margin compared to what we have now.
He found commie girlfriend 100% 😅
Yugoslavia was mistake. People here have too much national priđe. Kingdom of Yugoslavia could not change that, socialist Yugoslavia. Just take a look history of Balkans Greece, Turkey, Bulgaria, Albania... There is no example of peaceful life in those coutries. Majority always triedxto convert minority. In some cases it was resistance like in Turkey with Armenians, Greeks, Kurds and Assyrians. But at the end they all were victims of genocide and was turkified. In Greece Turks were that stayed turn into Greeks. Albanians in Greece have Greek names. Serbs and Montenegrins feom Albania was forced to take Albanian names and it was forbiden for them to learn serbian language. In theory that idea sound wonderfull. But it will never happend in real life. Me in early and mid 20s I belived in that. Now when I am in mid 30s I realised how delusional I was.
I think you didn't mention Greek enlightened Rigas Ferraios, who proposed a Balkan Confederation already by the late 1700s.
@facoulac They did, in 14:55
As a Bulgarian I would have loved that Dimitrov-Tito Union to have become a reality...Serbs are the closest thing to brothers we have on this world! I would love to see this happen now as well, but those same imperialistic bastards have their nails deep inside our throats here in Bulgaria at least.....
Also, Romania is as Balkan as the rest of us and that remark irritated me to be honest...BIG LOVE TO ALL BALKAN BROTHERS!!! STAY STRONG DEAR BEAUTIFUL LOVELY NEIGHBOURS! 🦾😤 They cannot split us apart and force us against one another forever! The Craiova Convention was also a nice new recent beginning and attempt to bring back the idea of Balkan Union...wonder what happened with it, if anyone knows?
Cheers from Sofia! 🍻
Živeli ❤
Never gonna happen again tho
Dimitrov was arguably the biggest traitor in our modern history. Individual who don't even deserve to be spat upon.
I disagree with the statement that the Serbs are the closest thing to brother to us, the Macedonians were, but the same people you are prazing alienated them towards us.
The Serbs are more like the neighbor that in private would love to see you suffer, but in public would play it friendly.

Every year.
Time Traveler: Stepping on a Butterfly.
Now: Balkanization is about unification now.
The Tito-Stalin split and it's consequences have been a disaster for the human race
That is true only if we presume that Yugoslav Bulgaria would have been a capable balance to Serbian power, and that annexing Albania in a predominantly Slavic union wouldn't have been a destabilising factor.
Yeah Tito is a pig
@@porterhouse937the Serbs always wanted to subjugate us and Tito almost did it but Stalin and Zhivkov stopped him may they rest in peace
@@elgoogelgoog9674 Wrong and Wrong, Tito was a Croat-slovene while he also messed with the serbs by trying to give kosovo to Albania, and make Vojvodina and Montenegro seperate.
@@yazovgamingthat would have been a smart move, that way Servia wouldn’t have had the upper hand in the federation and Albania would have had a reason to justify joining a country named YugoSLAVIA. Add Bulgaria to the mix tamed by independent Macedonia and the power balance would have been optimal.
That would leave the Croatian nationalists as the only wildcard which could have been violently crushed in an otherwise balanced Yugoslavia.
Arguably the biggest proponents of a Balkan Federation were the Macedonian revolutionaries from the end of 19th/beginning of 20th century. Their ultimate ideal was a supra-national "Switzerland of the Balkans" Macedonia within a broader Balkan Federation. That was seen as the only viable and logical solution for the "Macedonian Question" given the complex ethnic and geo-political situation of Ottoman Macedonia.
To be more precise the ideal was popular among the Slavic (sometimes calling themselves "Bulgarian") Macedonians and the Makedono-Vlachos (Macedonian Vlahs) with Albanians from time to time supporting the idea between their chaotic revolts before the Balkan Wars.
There is no complex Macedonian issue. Its simply a fake country

On a side note, this is what the EU should have been from the start, instead of just another tool for the imperialist core to exploit the periphery.
Alter-globalization (Rather than anti-globalization) is the solution just like how you described. The post-capitalist west should use its power and stolen wealth to reconciliate and reconstruct their former victims in reparations.
The balkan federation is one of the few revolutionary ideas that would have probably saved europe from being under u.s. / british / turkish / etc. regimes that reign, still until this day. Back when Rigas Ferraios (late 1700s) was proposing this idea, he was considering greeks, slavs, albanians, muslims, romanians etc as being parts of the hellenic nation, as, the only thing existing as a national identity in the region, back then was that all these people were opposed to the ottoman empire and rebeling against the local rulers who were under the sultans finger.
The thing about the Tito/Stalin split was that the measure of distrust wasn't anything new and had been a fear that Tito had since the days of WW2. It didn't help that one of Tito's inner circle was a spy for the USSR and had actually planned to cross the border at a point that Tito had intercepted. Tito also after the failure to induct Collectivization in the Balkans, he recieved a trade agreement with the U.S. (mainly wheat) and begun the start of taking in foreign money as long as Tito opposed the influence of the U.S.S.R, not saying this was a direct reason, but Tito knew how to play both the Soviet Union and U.S. against another while getting Yugoslavia the financial aid it needed.
Living ironically in Europe just dropped a braindead anti-Yugoslavia video. Even his subs aren't buying his takes. Would love to see you or Yugopnik take it down.
Retards fighting
I was always suspicious from the start, his balkan history videos were quite bad, especially the bourgeois liberation movements part have a thinly veiled anti-Turkish and islamophobic sentiment.
During the 1880s, there was the idea of uniting Romania and Bulgaria in a state, which sympathized after the war of 1877, but this disturbed Russia, which threatened the Romanian king Carol I with war, the negotiations being stopped. After that he started to put the fuse between Romanians and Bulgarians using Dobrogea. Dobrogea at that time, an underdeveloped region with a majority Turkish population, was shoved down Romania's throat at San Stefano instead of Bessarabia (Bugeac), a much more prosperous region at that time with 3 large ports. Romania's merit is that it developed it and Constanța became an important port on the Black Sea.
The Balkan federation will be epic ;)
Communism is epic
Where do you live
Balkan Federation now!
Dude the Manscape ad killed me
The Yugoslav project was so interesting and unique overall, in fact as of late I've become more fascinated by it rather than the USSR due to the way it was set up and its politics, but its uniqueness likely played a part in its downfall. Additionally, little material seems to be available in English as well.
I've managed to discover a few books, including one written by Chomsky, of all people, not that long ago, but not much else. Most of the sources cited in the video also don't seem to be translated. Also, as a Romanian, I'm surprised at how much we show up here, I had no idea we had such strong relationships, at least in the early days of the project.
As Ed Sullivan would say, "Really good shoe, mate!"
Cool add around minute 7....😂
But seriously great program!
The amount of ethnic confluct would be apsolutly unimaginable lol
0:25 I think this is similar to the African continent and panafricanist movement in the 20th century. Sounds crazy today to many people but there were african revolutionaries who thought that an united Africa would be the way forward after the "end" of colonialism

24:34 thats the current map of Romania, in the interwar period it had S. Dobrogea, Buceag and N. Bucovina
*ah, Habibi, it was already unified*
Yugoslavia was a country, as some historians like to say with the right to say, a country that was held with a firm hand first by King Alexander and then by Tito. The country itself had areas and peoples who had unprecedented differences in economic, social and political terms. There was a huge difference in terms of civilization between, say, Celje and Djakovica. Heaven and earth. For example, our famous scientist Jovan Cvijić in his famous work failed to somehow culturally connect Slovenes with other peoples. I think he devoted 5.6 pages to it, giving only a brief history of the Slovenes. And nothing else. Although there was someone who even participated in Versailles and was part of our delegation. The second problem of our disintegration was our, so to speak, exceptionality and specialness in relation to other socialist countries. It is true that it led to enormous progress and achievements in the field of culture and art. This was expressed so much that even in the Czech Republic and the Poles, who were on a much higher cultural level, they saw us as vanguard. Those good things are the offspring of nationalism and the desire of republican elites for their empire.
7:01 Gotta say it is a smart insertion of an ad.
Why would people hate this
Simply it wouldn't work.
Because it would have been hell on earth with its capitalism and lowers and cosmopolitanism all in one country
@@elgoogelgoog9674 well what is possibly gonna work
Because several nations in the huge federation have committed genocide on other nations within the Balkan Federation.
To put it simply, the reason why countries of the Balkans hate each-other is because when they gained autonomy from the Ottomans they were turned into client states for the Great Powers. This meant that as a Balkan nation you could gain much more by asking your sponsor for support in a war against your neighbor than by having good diplomatic relations with them. This idea appeared at first during the Serbo-Bulgarian war where the people did not understand why they were at war yet the Serbian king insisted that it was neccessary. This mentality was fueld by the elites for decades and unfortunately carried down to ordinary people of the Balkans
Ah yes, yeah sure total logic, total logic, my country of Romania that had lost most of its able-bodied men in both World Wars, nearly managed to fix things internally, let alone a capable infrastructure would jon up in this Picasso-like system, also no, no you don't tell Greeks what to do, they are more stubborn then Scots,
It may sound childish but România is to different from the rest of the balkan countries, mostly because is more carphatian than balkan

Bold of You to assume that I haven't made 20 plans on how to bering forth the Balkan Federation. Alright, I jest...
It's 31 plans.
Edit: 2 things:
1. One could argue that "Unifying the Balkans" started with either the Roman Empire, or, more fittingly, with the First Bulgarian Empire.
2. All of the plans are peaceful, but have different routes. Thankfully, "Open Balkan" has made the beginning stages a tad bit easier.
It would've been a horrific disaster...
just like jugosllavia
Could Stalin and Tito have ever rectified? Market socialism and Non-alignment didn't do communism any favors. If Tito had been assassinated, would Yugoslavia have joined the eastern bloc? I'm just curious.
If Stalin wasn’t a chauvinistic retard, maybe
All the maps presented during the first 16 minutes of this video illustrate why a lot of Croatians don't consider Croatia to be a part of the Balkan. When people started to using the word Balkan en masse during the early 19th century they were referring to those parts of Europe which were under the Ottoman control.
Croatia was not a part of that group.
HE'S BACK
Anyone know what the background music was in this video? It was great
The music sounds like from Suzerain
hello, glad to see this video, recently i've been thinking, could you reac & respond to Ironically Living in Europe video "Was Yugoslavia actually a good state ?(not really)" he get some stuff right but of course a lot of primary anti communist bad points & othher stuff,it could been interesting to have a ex-yugoslav communist respond a non-communist ex-yugoslav about socialist Yugoslavia
This can never happen, though, it might be a nice pipe dream. If the Slavic peoples of Yugoslavia couldn’t get along, what makes anyone think that a peninsula with diverse people, languages and religions could get along? The immediate question would be how will this Balkan State be governed? By whom? How would you elect the representatives? It’s a mess.
You may say that Italy was fragmented and was unified, but there’s a huge difference between the italic peninsula and the Balkan Peninsula. The Italian peninsula’s regions all speak some variant of Latin and have a common religious and cultural identity more or less. It is not at all the same in the Balkans. One may argue that there is perhaps a common Byzantine tradition among the Orthodox peoples of the Balkans, but there is no common language, cultural or ethnic identity.
As I said earlier: if the Slavic people of Yugoslavia couldn’t get along, there’s no way that you can unite the Balkans with so many other linguistic, ethnic, religious and cultural identities. Maybe a loose federation could be possible, though.
Basically every country in North and South America is a multi-ethnic, multi-racial, and multi-national republic. It really isn't that hard if two entire continents can do it.
Poor decisions by Serbia/Tito ultimately cost this dream.
If Serbia/Tito officially gave
Albania: Kosovo > Albania would have joined
Bulgaria: North Macedonia > Bulgaria would have joined
Greece: Removal of the fake entity of North Macedonia > Greece would have joined
Cope, Macedonians were the only ones fighting for the idea of a unified balkans
Greece would have never joined, because they wouldnt benefit from it, also the sole reason why North Macedonia exists, is because tito had plans to invade Greece.
Tito was an imperialist and a capitalist if he was never in power it might have succeeded

Nah
in the 70s in Greece the Communist party suffered a split between MLs and the newly formed eurocomms, forming two Communist parties. The classic ML KKE and the new eurocommunist KKE-Interior. The KKE-Int. had a youth orginasation called EKON - Rigas Feraios, having an idea of socialist panbalkan union. Not that KKE didnt want the same internationalist principle, but they were a bit more dureaucratic about it. The USSR didnt have good relations with Tito at the time plus after the civil war communists were called "slavs" and "slavomacedonians" because they fought in northern greece and established the Provisional Government there. Regardless i wanted to add this information to your video. You are doing a great job comrade! Solidarity from Greece, May our Balkan Brothers and Sisters Unite!!
They werent called slavs because they established a government in northern Greece, they were called slavs because they were communist slavic seperatists.
