    thanks so much for the great vid. It's very helpful. Just ordered a 650 after loading with a single stage for many years. It's a 6 to 8 week wait though. Thanks again.

    I have been looking at buying a press and this has been the most informative vid I’ve seen Paul you did a GREAT JOB, the only thing I slight disagree with is starting small I have been barrowing a 550B and I can see I would rather get the XL650 and that’s what I’m going to do AND you helped me make that decision Thank You

    Liked the presentation. Newer shooter (2yrs). Looking at the 650 as a first time loading machine. I have family that loads and will help me set things up. I really liked the full auto reloaded 1050 but don't think I really need all that right now.

    Very good video, I'm looking into getting a press because it's costing me for 9mm, 38 and 45. I'm getting ready to retire and want to get set up before I quit working. Like the idea of starting with a single press first. thanks

      And you will need a single stage later even when you have a progressive. You need it to do test rounds and special rounds without messing up your setup.

    GOOD POINT ! I just rechecked and the Dillon Case Lube conatains lanolin and isopropyl alcohol so it should be OK. I know I don't need the lube and it works fine without it but with the lube it runs like silk ! For 50 rounds may not be worth it , when I am doing 500+ rounds it just makes it so easy and smooth.

    Fine job, Paul. I have an XL650 on the way. It should be in my "mailbox" in two days or thereabouts. I'm VERY excited. Like you recommend, I've been using a Rock Chucker for about 5 years; although I had the Hornady Pro-Jector (remember the one that preceded the LnL?) for more than 10 years.
    I really came here to see some specifics about how the primer indexing system works on the 650, but I'm sure I'll have no problem finding it shortly.
    Just wanted to comment and say that your video was well executed, and informative. Thank you!

    • @PaulsWackyWorld
      @PaulsWackyWorld  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I still get emails about how silly it is to start with a Rock Chucker and a person should not waist their money and they should go straight to the 650. When you get yours (just for fun) imagine that this was your 1st experience reloading and report in if going to a 650 for your 1st press would be a good idea. LOL
      Email me if you have any problems I can help with.

  • @FrozenguyRS

    I started with the XL 650 because you can use it as a single stage until you're ready for progressive. However great video! Really enjoyed it.

      @PaulsWackyWorld  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Even after you have a 650 it's still nice to have a single stage for those special jobs so why not start with it. I have never seen a 650 used as a single stage and can't imagine it.

    On sorting cases of 9mm.To count and sort them (9mm) I use the plastic (50 pc containers) trays that comes along when you buy factory loads. 1st, I fill the cases upside in the tray and inspect them visually if there are other calibers like the .32 ACP/7.65mm or .380/9mm short. mixed. Then, pass a powerful magnet(taken from a big busted speaker) to sort out the steel casings which I don't reload. Then tally each tray so I don't lose count. On 38 Special and .357magnum, check only for visual.

    Paul- excellent and thorough video, thank you for taking the time to put this together for us. I've been loading on a Square Deal for the last few months and have been considering bumping up to the 550 or 650. I like the auto indexing of the 650, but, am not sure just how vital that is to me and I'm wondering if you have any insights that may help me make a decision one way or the other between them. Thanks again and happy shooting :)

  • @GuitarGear1
    @GuitarGear1 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I was just looking at it as- now that the 550 is available with a case feeder, and the powder sensor station just doesn't seem that necessary to me, the real only advantage to the 650 is the auto indexing. And to pay more for the press and more for each tool head of each caliber and the conversion kits- I was just wondering if there's more advantages that a non user just wouldn't think of that would give the nod to the 650. Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.. Best... Ty

    Paul, for lubing you might try a method that works great for me. Take a tupperware container size of your choosing, and put your cases in, spray then put the lid on and shake. Repeat as nessicary. Works great, fasr, and contains the brass cleanly for use now or later.

    Excellent video. Considering starting with reloading but had a questions. How dangerous (flammible, etc) is the charge powder? As I live in Alabama and the summers get to be near 95+ degrees, this is a viable concern. What are your thoughts on the Lee Challenger Breech LockSingle Stage Press kit as for a beginner? Thanks!

    Dillon Case Lube is a lanolin & alcohol mixture. You can make it yourself at a fraction of the cost.
    1 ounce of liquid lanolin.
    12 ounces of 99% ISO Alcohol
    Place both plastic containers [liquid lanolin & ISO alc] in a bowl of hot water for 20 min. This will facilitate the lanolin to become pourable & mix easily into the warm ISO.
    Mix well, pour into a good bottle-sprayer. Done!

    Thanks for the advice..I want to get into reloading and its nice to see someone that suggest something more basic..Part of me says spend the extra money and get what you're gonna move up too.??But the Safety side of me says get used to the process first?If done wrong it can blow up in your face. Do i really need a reloader that can do 400 rounds per hour?Also at the same time if i can make it cheaper i can shoot more??Thats a good thing.lol How many times can reuse that casings.?

  • @PaulsWackyWorld
    @PaulsWackyWorld  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Nelmistro It just cost me < $21 per hundred to reload with high end components in 223. A box of just OK 30-06 cost over $20 for 20 rounds. I just reloaded with Sierra MatchKings and I was under 40 cents a round or $8 for a box of 20

  • @PaulsWackyWorld
    @PaulsWackyWorld  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    By "primer" I assume you mean powder. Yes it is all adjust able and you set the powder with a scale to get the exact amount. After it is set it will dispense the exact amount every time. Yes, it does rifle and pistol . The setup and adjustment is different for each and this is why I do large volumes of each before changing the setup. You also need different dies for each caliber. Heed my warning and start with a single stage press 1st . Go to 12:35 in the move.

  • @PaulsWackyWorld
    @PaulsWackyWorld  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well ,,I’m in Arizona, LOL,, the hot part of Arizona ! Heat is not a problem. I have been told that one gallon of gas is more dangerous than a pound of powder. Powder does not blow up, it flares up, unless you have it contained in a pressure vessel. In general it is even hard to even light powder. I keep loaded guns in vehicles. The temperature in the cars can get well over 140 ? and my gun has never fired itself.
    The Lee is a fine starter kit as most single stage units are).

  • @PaulsWackyWorld
    @PaulsWackyWorld  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Small, Medium, Large and Magnum powder bars for the dispenser and each one is adjustable. Look at the movie at about 6:50 and you can see the powder bar extend out and the bolt at the end is the adjustment. And see 9:40

    I've never done reloading either so I was curious to expand on MrPUREENT's question. Isn't their a set amount of primer per weight that is specifically required for every different caliber? So a small 9mm will be a lot different than a small .223? Does it have a certain way of dispensing the correct amount for different rounds? Also does this do rifle caliber rounds too? Thanks and great video!

  • @johnb1448
    @johnb1448 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Any reason why you don't have a automatic case feeder? XL650 is basically designed for it while the 550 rb is more for indexing each stage.

    • @PaulsWackyWorld
      @PaulsWackyWorld  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +John B After pulling the arm 20+ times I need to do another action like sticking cases in the tube or my arm will fall off. If someone else is helping it keeps them busy loading primer tubes and filling the case tube. It's also 1 last inspection on the cases. Even without the case feeder it's easy to do 500+ rounds an hour. If you need higher production then you need a case feeder, but you will need to inspect every case before you stick it in the hopper ???

  • @bwspyder1
    @bwspyder1 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is it cheaper to reload 223s and 308s with a press rather than just buying a box of them? I heard that with the cost of buying all the equipment needed (press, dies, etc), it really doesn't make a difference and most people do it only for extreme accuracy. Is that true?

  • @DickJones007
    @DickJones007 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    ( Oops, posted that a little prematurely)... but I've reload close to 2000 to 3000 rounds, and am ready to advance to a progressive press such as the Dillon 650. My main question in regards to the press, is the priming station. Is there ever a concern abusing much pressure in the handle and accidentally discharging a primer?

    HA HA! Yeah I meant powder sorry! I'm recovering from surgery and was on pain killers when I typed that, lol! Great video though and I will take your advice on the RCBS first when I get back to the United States (Stationed overseas with the USMC).
    With the current ammo shortages have you seen there being a shortage or reloading supplies as well; EG Primer, Powder, casing, bullets? It seems like a no-brainier when there are ammo shortages. Thanks again brother!

  • @PaulsWackyWorld
    @PaulsWackyWorld  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    In 30-06 I shoot the Sierra Match Kings and Game Kings, about $35/100 (High end bullet) + $3.50 for primers+ lets say $10 of powder. There are a lot of cheaper bullets.
    On 223 they run about

  • @2tommyrad
    @2tommyrad 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    BTW, you don't have to spray the lube hot. Room temp is fine. Spray a couple sprays on your brass, mix them around [I prefer a plastic bowl] wait 1 to 2 minutes, start loading.

  • @PaulsWackyWorld
    @PaulsWackyWorld  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @clintmilt1 The price is the same anywhere you buy a Dillon or you can buy it from Dillon or you can buy it used and save the tax. Used presses sell for about as much as new ones because Dillion's have a no BS warrenty so you can keep it forever and it's always in warrenty with no receipt. SWEET or what !

  • @thomasrudolph7404

  • @bartofilms
    @bartofilms 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Paul, You may want to wear latex gloves when handling brass that's coated w. case lube. I don't know about Dillon's, but several other case lube compounds have benzine in them. If you have carbide dies, you prob. don't need the case lube anyway. Cheers.

    The up front cost of reloading can indeed be high with buying all the equipment. Where you make your money back is in the long run. Once you are set up you can load match grade ammunition for bulk prices. As far as how much money you save, there is no dollar precentage set in stone. Some save a lot, others not so much. A box of match grade .308 (20 count) is almost 30 dollars. I can load it myself with the same components for lest than 20 dollars. over time your equipment will pay for itself

  • @rdsii64
    @rdsii64 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't shoot range pick ups because its to easy to let one odd caliber piece get by and then you have major problems. I pick up my own brass and then I still check to make sure I didn't pick up someone elses 40 cal, 380 or what ever. I also on shoot lake city brass in my AR15 and I still don't shoot range pick ups only brass that came from my gun.

    Can't hear it either, worst part starts around 6:43. You are using the mic on the camera no? When you move away from it or face the opposite direction it's having a hard time picking up your voice. Remote mic? I'm hearing most all of the other videos quite well. Full size monitor w internal speakers. Both the youtube volume and the computer volume are turned all the way up.

      DrJimJam111 In 5 years I have had 1 complaint and that was (look below) someone had an obsolete codex . Yes the audio is a little low at the spot you indicated but not as bad as you are saying. If I was sponsored $$$ by someone and actually had high dollar equipment and editing software and could afford to go back and re-shoot over and over until I got it perfect that would be great. I have turned down a few $ offers because I would rather tell you the truth than be an undercover advertisement for someone. This movie was shot 5 years ago and I hope my newer movies have less errors, OJT On the Job Training. (Someone also noted that they had problems but when they went directly to TH-cam and watched the movie it was fine , when they used a link to it, it sucked ? don't understand it)

      PaulsWackyWorld I'm deaf in one ear and I don't hear the greatest out of the other from a million or so rounds at the range over 40+ years and I heard every word you said clear as a bell at half volume... No need for you to invest in any fancy video gear although Paul the audio/video pro (with no videos at all) should probably get out in that wacky world of his and go invest in some heavy duty hearing aids! lol Great videos too, thanks for all the time and effort you've invested to share your knowledge freely...

      ***** LOL, I think you are addressing me, not Paul. If so, I learned a couple of things working in TV production for several years and also have a SAG card. I may not have any videos on TH-cam, but have an extensive resume in films and commercials both behind the camera and in front, key grip and actor. I wouldn't consider myself an expert! But I am not without years of professional experience. It may sound great to your deaf ears, but I'm not sure how you can hear it at my house.

    If you have a Square Deal now,,, MMMMmmmm . Look at the price differance between the 550 and 650. I would just go the extra money for the 650. The 650 is forever. Due to the no BS warrenty I let all my friends come over and reload. After I set it up and due mine they can come for an hour or so and do theirs,,, advantage goes to the 650 ????
