    Navy plays Notre Dame every year in Football. During WW2 Notre Dame nearly had to close as a school because they were on the verge of folding financially, but the Navy kept them open and used the campus as a military training facility during the war. As a thank you for keeping the school afloat, Notre Dame has promised to play Navy every year in football so long as Navy still wants to play them. It is always a very lopsided game, but once every few decades the Midshipmen get a win.

    I’m a huge Notre Dame fan. The game you’re talking about is the Aer Lingus Classic series at Aviva Stadium in Dublin. I’ve got about 20 friends coming over to watch the game.
    The game you’re seeing in this video is Notre Dame VS Michigan at ND Stadium. It’s not talked about as much anymore, but this is one of the oldest rivalries in college football. Michigan actually taught ND how to play football back in the late 1800’s. And then later would refuse to play them. Michigan started a football conference but wouldn’t let ND be a part of it. That’s why ND became a traveling football team. They’d get on a train & go to other schools that would play them. It’s part of the reason ND is the only college football team that isn’t in any conference now. There are so many college football traditions out there. All the ND players touch that “Play Like a Champion” sign before each home game. Real gold is in the paint they use to paint their helmets. They reflect the “golden dome” atop the administration building on campus. That’s why they’re always plain gold and won’t have any decorations or words on them (unless it’s a special game with special uniforms). They have a green jersey that is only worn rarely on unique occasions, and you never know when that might be. Fans do “stadium push-ups” for each point scored by ND. The team sings the school alma mater with the students in the student section after each home game. The trumpet players in the band play the ND fight song in the rotunda of the golden dome with fans before each home game. There are cool videos of this. These are just some ND traditions, and they never fail to honor them. ND has a contract with NBC, which is one of the main television broadcasters in the States, so all their home games are aired on NBC and Guinness is an official sponsor of the Irish. Joe Montana was a big NFL QB who went to Notre Dame, so you’ll see him in Guinness commercials during ND games.
    This is just the Fighting Irish. Each college team has their own traditions that they and their fans are loyal to. It’s pretty special. This is one reason college football is so big in the States.

    To answer your question Aiden @ 4:00 it’s extremely hard. I went to the university of south carolina (go gamecocks!) and I lived like 2 minutes from the football stadium (our football stadium is like 10-15 minutes from the campus) let me tell you it was pretty much a known thing that if you had any errands you needed to run on game day it’s best to do them the day before or much earlier before the game because the traffic is way too massive & you would just end up stuck in traffic for hours. It was pretty much impossible to leave my apartment. Needless to say, I never left my apartment on game days 😅

    • @Ccm2852
      @Ccm2852 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Haha yeah and if you’re going to the game best to get to your parking spot by 8 am. Been stuck in traffic by the blossom street bridge too many times 😂 Go Cocks!!

  • @ImTheDudeMan471
    @ImTheDudeMan471 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    *Note on midwest traffic and tailgating: If you tailgated before the game, you usually have a few people in your group that stay in the parking area with a satellite tv, generator, bbq food, drinks, comfy chairs, pop-up canopies. After the game, you go back to your tailgate and wait out traffic, watch other satellite tv college football games, continue eating bbq and drinking. At least that's how it's done in mid-west college towns. If you brought your tailgate RV, then you stay overnight in the lot, if it's allowed.

  • @halah34
    @halah34 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I live near Ohio State. It’s in the middle of a city. The police actually have a manual for how to manage the traffic before and after games (my dad was a cop). Especially before games, they will briefly close certain freeway exits as they get congested. After games they usually turn off traffic lights and manually direct traffic (and don’t fuck around). For the amount of people at a game (something like 105,000) it’s not terribly difficult to get out. I think one thing that helps is, being in a city, there’s no one huge parking lot. I’ve had to walk over a mile to get to my car before. That gives people the chance to disperse.

    Walking to games from your dorm is so much fun. I lived a very close walk to the stadium my first year, like walk outside of the building and the stadium dominates your line of sight. It was great.

    Albert the Florida Gator, Uga the Georgia bulldog, Handsome Dan the Yale Bulldog, Mike the LSU Tiger, Revellie the Texas A&M Collie, the Auburn War Eagle, the Colorado Buffalo (Bison), Bebo the Texas Longhorn.

    Colorado’s mascot is a Bison (Buffalo) ,not a bull. Ralphie is his name & he’s a big boy… bigger than a bull.
    Texas has Bevo, a longhorn cow, which actually went after Georgias mascot, a Bulldog, a few years ago on the sidelines…

    • @Middle_King
      @Middle_King ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ralphie is actually a girl. A male Bison would be incredibly difficult to run with in that atmosphere. Colorado football has a video on youtube where Deion Sanders meets Ralphie and they talk a bit about her handling and history.

  • @christophermckinney3924
    @christophermckinney3924 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Good point Aidan. It is hard to leave. Remember the tail gating begins a couple fo days or more before with teh die hard fans and they take over the parking lots nearest the stadium gates. The samt thing to do is allow yourself an hour to get from your parking spot to the seat and to get comfrotable with a snack and a beer or two, then after the game if the home team wins the celebration goes on for half an hour to an hour, then it takes another 30-45 mint=utes back to you car and another hour out fo the parking lot. If the home team loses by a substantial margin, people start leaving mid fourth quarter and it is much easier to get out of the stadium. But sometimes the traffic just snarls. You're better off parking some distance away and walking than trying to get out when the car is close to the stadium gate.

    They didn’t really show the first one for the University of Washington very well. The players line up in the tunnel and the band forms a tunnel outside for them to run through while purple smoke floods the entrance to the tunnel. But the shots they showed were so random it could have been anything!

  • @hawgfancolby
    @hawgfancolby ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Getting out of these stadiums can be a nightmare. I regularly go to Penn State games which usually brings in over 100,000 per game. Between the lengthy walk to the car and then bumper-to-bumper traffic getting out, it can take upwards of a couple hours if you don't know what you're doing, especially for the bigger games. The only saving grace is that their traffic control has improved the last couple of years so it's not as bad as it once was. However, most of the main roads out of town are only 2 lanes so you'll still run into heavy traffic getting out of the area as a lot of people come from all around the state.

    Regarding the game y’all choose to goto. The team is less important to some extent than, a good matchup. Some great atmospheres in certain videos are bc they’re playing a ranked team at night (under the lights)… that would have bad atmospheres if they’re at noon vs a bad team.
    Heard y’all mention Alabama vs Auburn …. That’s guaranteed to be an AMAZING atmosphere. South Carolina vs Clemson would be around that time and super underrated if you’re in the area. LSU vs bama would be great too. Texas vs Oklahoma. Georgia vs Georgia Tech might sound good on paper but won’t be imo

    The Penn State Stadium (I am a Penn State grad) is walking distance to campus and then to downtown State College with College Ave. separating the campus from the town of State College (in fact the campus is situated inside the town borders. So you can start in downtown State College (and/or a party on campus if you are a student) and eat and drink, then, walk to the tailgate party right outside the stadium --eat, drink (eat, drink), then attend/watch the game, then walk back through campus to downtown to...eat, drink, (and celebrate if you won, but eat, drink regardless.) It is a perfect set up. You should go.

    I’ve sat in the upper seats at LSU and it’s so steep you get wobbly. The best part about LSU’s entrance was when they used to put Mike the Tiger…a real live actual Tiger, in a cage by the tunnel where the visiting team would run out! Imagine running out the tunnel to play football and you’re immediately confronted with a Bengal f--ing Tiger in your face. 😂
    I will never stop posting this intro video from LSU (you should find a collection of those)…the most ridiculous, hammy, over the top, glorious intro 😂

    Yeah with all the ppl tryna leave, that’s when it’s great being a student, in my case just call a sober driver back to the frat house for an after party lmao. Big game we’d have like 6-8 drivers, you’ll be back at the mansion within 30 mins or less max. You walk past all the traffic then just get scooped at a gas station or apartment building where there’s way less traffic, car that fits 5 passengers? Have like 2 guys, the drivers & like 4-6 women💀 then send the sober drivers back to get the rest of the brothers & women & then just women that call us for rides to the party.
    Tailgates were literally legendary, a few thousand college ppl mostly women & all the frats & not a lot of guys allowed in besides frat guys, unlimited alcohol, DJ on a stage. Full on security at the entrance, that shit was pandemonium, absolute debauchery & a helluva good time. The amounts of alcohol, weed, cocaine especially & other party drugs consumed was insane. 1 out 10 ppl you see had cocaine on em, at least. Good times

    In these small towns a lot of people who live close to the stadium allow people to park in their driveways and yards for a fee. anywhere from $10-$100 depending on the location and inconvenience to them personally. I recommend you attend a game in the SEC between rivals. Florida v. Georgia (which is played in Jacksonville, not Gainesville or Athens is called the world's largest outdoor cocktail party), Alabama v. Auburn (in either location), LSU v. Alabama, Auburn, or Georgia, or Tennessee v. Alabama (in Knoxville) would be my top choices.
    Outside the SEC, there are also some great rivalries. Most of the cross border or ins tate rivalries cause shifts in recrutiing of the same high school players in the area.
    Florida v. Florida State (in state rivalry)
    Florida State v. Miami (in state rivalry)
    Clemson v. South Carolina (in state rivarly)
    Notre Dame v. Miami, Michigan State, USC (Southern Cal not South Carolina), or Michigan. These have long histories.
    Boston College v. Miami (see the Doug Flutie Heisman game)
    Michigan v. Ohio State (Cross border rivalry - These two states once went to war over who controlled Toeldo)
    Michigan v. Michigan State
    Michigan v. Minnesota (the Little Brown Jug game - see the history)
    Oklahoma v. Texas (the Red River Rivalry - cross border rivalry)
    Oklahoma v. Oklahoma State (in state rivalry)
    Oklahoma v. Nebraska (Old Big 8 rivalry used to determine the national champion most years)
    Texas v. Texas A&M (in state rivalry)
    Penn State v. any Big 10 school (Mighigan, Ohio State, Notre Dame) - Penn State did not play in a conference for many years so they built up rivalries but mostly in the Big 10
    Harvard v. Yale - One of the oldest rivalries in college football between two ELITE colleges
    Washington v. Washington State (in state)
    Oregon, v. Oregon State (in state)
    BYU (Utah Mormons) v. Utah (non-Mormons) (in-state)
    Colorado v. Colorado State (in state)
    USC (Southern Cal) v. UCLA (in state and L.A. bragging rights)
    Cal (Berkley) v. Stanford (the two most elite schools on the West Coast play for an axe every year)
    Arizona v. Arizona State (in state)
    Georgia v. Georgia Tech (in state)
    Virginia v. Virginia Tech (in state)
    And of course, Army v. Navy (service academy rivalry)
    In addition there are Division I FCS schools (that are the next tier down with some well established rivalries. Too many to mention.
