Nasty, dark, depressing lyrics, wrapped in fun, cool, catchy music. One of the best songs of the 90's. A part of me wishes they'd have played the full version, without the edits, but I don't know if they'd have been able to make it through the video with the more explicit lyrics played.
Another Epic 90's monster hit like this one was "Father Of Mine" by Everclear. P.S. Everclear's list of big hits is pretty long. A great New Artist for you to check out.
I take it you've never heard their Chasing Daylight album. Sword & Shield has one of the all-time greatest guitar solos. The entire album deserves to be on a top albums of all time list.
And it's not just that most famous line. For example, it also says: "Then I bumped up. I took the hit that I was given, and I bumped again, and I bumped again." The censored line is the most obvious reference, but yeah, the entire song is about addiction.
Other 90s bands to check out: Beck - loser, where it’s at, devil’s haircut, new pollution, lost cause, think I’m in love, saw lightning; Queens of the stone age - no one knows, my god is the sun, the way you used to do, the evil has landed, little sister; Everclear - wonderful, I will buy you a new life, am radio, father of mine; Cake - the distance, never there, I will survive, love you madly, short skirt/long jacket, perhaps, perhaps, perhaps; Dandy warhols - bohemian like you, we used to be friends; Modest mouse - float on, lampshades on fire, dashboard, we are between; Muse - supermassive black hole, uprising, madness
One of my first dates with my wife was a Third Eye Blind concert at the Warfield in San Francisco in 2000. Great show. Tonic opened and they were also great. Man I wish I could go back and do it all over again.
Working in radio in Vancouver, BC...they came thru on tour for this album...I got to interview the band...they were GREAT!!! Nice guys!!! Made me love the album even more!!!

No doubt! I was just going though it again. It’s an alternative rock masterpiece. I’m honestly dumbfounded how they wrote such perfect songs. 14/14 all bangers.
3EB is the quintessential 90's band. This song is so perfectly done as a bublegum pop song that they didn't even sensor it when it came out because no one listened to the actual lyrics. So brilliant of the band. A very dark song about drug addiction juxtaposed against a bop that will get stuck in your head. I hope you two visit more 3EB songs, but also re-listen to this one. It's deep.
The 90's had such a great variety of music. You should check out a band from Omaha, Nebraska named 311. This group experimented with everything from reggae, funk, metal, and rap. Alternative rock at its finest. Check out their mid-90's hit entitled, "Down." This song blends all their different styles into one. Summer playlist vibes for sure. A bonafide BANGER!!
This is one of the best examples of juxtaposition in music, the happiness is absolutely infectious - but when you sit down and pay attention to the song they're talking about drug addicts going through a break up / rough patch in their relationship... there is absolutely nothing happy about this song at all. I love it.

I just saw Third Eye Blind in concert for the first time on Saturday. They played this as their sending to last song. They have a ton of great songs you guys will love.
Awesome band, I’ve seen them several times live and they are just as good live as recorded. This song just gets you bopping along so quickly, I remember I didn’t even know what it was about for who knows how long til a friend told me, lol. Lots of really good songs/albums from this group.
Omg, this was my favorite song back in the 90s, and still love it. There are so many memories... reminds me of moving to NYC when life was so good, this song was so popular. Me and my roommates would blast this while cleaning or just to cheer us up! I wish i could go back in time. Love this song so much! 💕🎵✨️🥰

Been a 3EB fan from day one!! I feel they don't get the recognition they deserve - they were a huge part of my late teen years and this album spoke to me on so many levels!! Please consider their song "MOTORCYCLE DRIVE BY" while it wasn't released as a single, it's a beautiful song that Stephan truly releases pure emotions through his voice and lyrics. It makes me cry to this day!! Another song to check out is "HOW'S IT GOING TO BE" and "NEVER LET YOU GO" - - - Was lucky to see them live a few times and hope you continue to revisit this underrated band in the future! Keep smiling y'all - much love!!
Check out “The Background.” Never released as a single, but very poignant. I love it, because I lived it with my fiancée who never escaped his addiction. RIP Sean.
Oh yes! One of my favourites. It’s a deep cut, but is a good as any single. So sorry for your loss. That song is so amazing, and beautiful, I could see it being a wave of emotions.

Jay, I saw you trying to figure out what was happening when one of the lyrics was muffled. The radio edit obscured the lyric: crystal meth. Semi-Charmed Life is about a crystal meth addiction and transition periods in one's life. Me and my brother used to listen to them back in 1997. "Jumper" and "How's It Gonna Be" are my next suggestions. Thanks for doing this request. Great band. Patreon Movie Suggestions: The Hunted (2003), The Hunt For Red October, The Hurricane (1999), The Hurt Locker, Hustle & Flow, The Hustler, I Am Sam, Ice Castles, Iceman, The Iceman Cometh.
I listened to this song and "Jumper" all the time ON CASSETTE (in a Walkman) when I took the bus from Hoboken, NJ to New York City back in the late 1990s. I was bobbing/nodding my head as the refrain played. :o)
My daughter has Cystic Fibrosis (CF) so she was able to do a Make-A-Wish wish. So last year her wish was to go to LA and record one of her original songs (she’s a singer song writer) in a professional recording studio. The foundation hooked her up with a 3 day trip to LA and top pros in a studio where MANY huge stars recorded along with pro musicians and engineers to produce it all. Anyway, the bass player they got to work with her was from Third Eye Blind. He was super cool, chill, really nice and of course lots of stories to tell.
Love this song, brings me back to 1997 in 6th/7th grade and how I knew what the song was about while most people didn’t and they just thought it was a happy pop rock song
❤LOVE THEM. Their Power Pop Alt Rock Vibe disguises their lyrics well. It took forever for me to pick up on the meaning back in the day. It is a killer song......never gets old.
I loved Third Eye Blind! In 1997 I was renting a house in Trenton, NJ and driving into Manhattan every weekend to work at a singing job in a Greenwich Village bar. I thought I was cool as he** and I was! The band captured a feeling of individuality that made FM radio something to be proud of. I can’t believe that Stephan Jenkins (the lead singer) will turn 60 this year. That is terrifying!
OMG!! This brought tears to my eyes.. Such memories .. This was my coming of 21 track..played in every bar and nightclub.. Then played at every girl's house that I spent the night at in those days .. I hate to live in the past ... But id give anything to go back..
I remember driving with my brother and his 8-year-old daughter. He was playing the CD and she was singing word for word. I said Bro, you’re not much of a lyrics man are you? Because your daughter is nailing it. You may want to listen closer to this one. She’s brilliant and we all laugh about it now. 3IB is still one of my favorite bands because I do listen to lyrics.
yet ANOTHER band from my home area and when I hear our bands it reminds me of when we used to go to live shows every weekend. We saw 2 head lining bands and one lesser known band for $5.50.
This is one of those epic pop songs that SOUNDS happy and light, but the lyrics are serious and dark. A dichotomy like that always makes for interesting listening.
There’s a British band from Wales that you should definitely check out called Catatonia. They were huge in Europe in the late 90s, and the singer (Cerys Matthews) has such a smoky, gravelly voice, with a strong Welsh lilt. Their biggest hit was ‘Mulder & Scully’, but ‘Road Rage’ was super popular too. She also sang a duet with Tom Jones, their cover of ‘Baby It’s Cold Outside’ is brilliant. If you like female singers with distinct voices, definitely give them a listen!
This song is so '90s. It's one I heard on the radio often as a young kid in the '90s, and one that definitely comes to mind when I think of quintessential '90s hits. The lyrics to this song went over my head when I was a kid, as I never paid attention to what was being sung. Besides, I was 6 years old when this song was released, and I didn't know anything about sex and drugs at the time. To me, this was just a catchy, fun song.
Definitely the happiest song about crystal m@th .
I laughed when Amber said dancing around on a Sunday morning to a song about meth addiction 😂
I have always thought that when I heard this song.
😂 I came here to say the same thing.
Everybody did it. Or they wouldn’t have become as big of a band as they did

Very sorry to hear, but glad this song helps you remember your precious daughter❤
Beautiful memory, I’m so sorry for your loss. ❤
Please accept my condolences. Some of the posts talk about it’s about meth addiction. Well if we enjoy this classic like your daughter did doesn’t mean you have to be be a meth addict.
@@maiden-eq4uv yeah, I realized that after she was gone... They actually played the edited version on our local radio station... I didn't hear the real song til I bought the album...
Man, this song takes me back to summer time in the beer gardens here in the UK.
I think you guys will absolutely love 'Extreme - Play With Me'
The guitar work in that track is top tier
Defining song for my teenage years. Was used on a lot of promos and in featured in “American Pie.” Never Let You Go is another favorite of theirs!
Losing a whole year, my favorite!!!!
This is one of my favorite 90s songs! But my favorite of theirs is “JUMPER”.
I can smell the vanilla fields perfume and surge soda… *sighs nostalgically*
I listened to this song and "Jumper" all the time ON CASSETTE (in a Walkman) when I took the bus from Hoboken, NJ to New York City back in the late 1990s. I was bobbing/nodding my head as the refrain played. :o)
First concert I ever went to was ThirdEyeBlind…they were awesome!!!
love 90s alternative music!!! third eye blind is one of my faves, have their first tow albums and they're both great!
Such a good band. “How’s It Gonna Be” is by far my fave. Love “Graduate”, too - hard hitting.
Wow! What a beautiful story and memory for all time.
Love this song, brings me back to 1997 in 6th/7th grade and how I knew what the song was about while most people didn’t and they just thought it was a happy pop rock song
Honestly this is one of the best rock songs, on one of the best rock albums of the entire 90s. This entire album is bangers! Love Third Eye Blind.
❤LOVE THEM. Their Power Pop Alt Rock Vibe disguises their lyrics well. It took forever for me to pick up on the meaning back in the day. It is a killer song......never gets old.
How's It Going To Be is my favorite 3rd Eye Blind song. Another one of their hits is Can I Graduate.
Do more Kansas, please. Like ' Carry On Wayward Son' ... thank you.
You didn’t have to tell me this. He should always be 35 years old. Always.
OMG!!
This brought tears to my eyes..
Such memories ..
This was my coming of 21 track..played in every bar and nightclub..
Then played at every girl's house that I spent the night at in those days ..
I hate to live in the past ... But id give anything to go back..
I fell in love with Third Eye Blind's music!
And this one sticks in my head too.
This was still so popular on radio in LA in the early and mid 2000’s….love it…and yeah, gotta listen to the lyrics ha
Such a feel good song for such a dark subject!
for real
The happiest sounding song about trying to replicate the high of using drugs.
One of my favorites of the 90’s!! Love them way before everyone else did!! Love them from NY!!❤️
Divine Thing- Soup Dragons. J/A another early 90s banger from a new band for you to react to! Love to see you react to it! Thanks for Third Eye Blind!
