Assembling the Chinese CF210SP AM FM Radio Kit

  • This time I got myself a small DIY kit from Amazon: The CF210SP AM/FM Radio. It's a simple little kit and I bought it in the hopes to relive a bit of my youth when I had an educational electronics kit, with which you could build AM radios from discrete components. However, this kit here comes with a few caveats: Chinese instructions, a less than stellar case and other ill fitting bits and things.

You need to test all the ceramic capacitors and be prepared to throw them away. I am sure they hoover up reject capacitors. It can really mess up the FM radio. Don't bother assembling the AM part. it is the most un-selective POS I have ever met.

Hi there. What do you mean by "non selective POS". Do you mean lack of AM stations or that the AM part of this kit is a garbage?

One thing that would help would be instructions in the world's Lingua Franca, namely English.

I built one. The most disappointing Chinese kit I ever built. In general, I do like Chinese radio kits, and the six and 7 transistor AM ones I built worked well.
The actual circuit design is quite reasonable, remembering its simplicity. One IC for FM, one for AM (the traditional MK484 / ZN414 type clone) and an audio amplifier. Mine worked to a level I felt was satisfactory for something so simple.
But the kit was let down by poor quality of components, a PCB that was difficult to solder (and the copper came off when it got hot) and the dreadful, ill-fitting case and mechanicals. :-(

The AM part has two stations interfering with each other and everything else over the whole AM band. The FM part does nothing more than hiss.

I just got one of these kits in Chinese. Slightly different but your presentation helps.

Can't believe you got it to work at all .

Hey. I also soldered this kit recency. Could not find any AM station though 😐 I wasn't expecting much from this, at least I had some fun building this and FM part works at least

I read a comment from someone that said don't solder the short tab on the tuner because it shorts the am section. I haven't soldered the kit yet, so I can't give more detail than that. Hope it helps you!

Yeah.. or maybe I have soldered the variative capacitor incorrectly, as there are at least 2 ways to solder it
