    Hi I live in central Mexico in an area where we have very crapy roads (Paris-Roubaix style...almost) so I always thought that I have a very nice test lab for durability and puncture resistance. I used Continental and Vittorias and lasted 3,500km, Schwalbe around 4,500km. The only ones that truly worked for me where Michelin Power All Season 28mm I had used 2 pairs for the las 2 years and survived over 20,000km a year each. I am 80 kg and I mostly ride over very bad surfaces let´s say 60% asphalt and 40% gravel. By the way, I use clinchers.

  • @rp6760
    @rp6760 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    They use 50kg as it is the load per tyre. Two wheels
    Load might not be evenly spread between front and rear but quess 50kg is a good reference point.

    I run Michelin tires on my car but their bike tires are crap. They puncture for fun. For that reason I've had Vredestein (before they stopped making them) and now Continental ever since.

      I switched from Conti to Michelin for the reason that Conti punctured every ten miles and the sidewalls disintegrated. Went to Michelin and never went back. But... That was the ProRace series. These Power series tyres look to have traded puncture protection for rolling resistance.

    I have a pair of the new power cups and they certainly just that little bit more comfortable and they are a tad more compliant than gp 5000 faster maybe . I’m lucky that I have a little strip of cobbles out side my house . And it’s easy test to find out which is faster at a given pressure and power for the distance, I know they don’t catch the wind as much as the conti either giving a more confident ride. What I don’t like is they have lost the ruler, they size up huge. For people that are running clinchers get the 23s if you want a true 25 on a 20mm I’d rim. Hunt aero wide 34s for reference.

    Back in the day I raced/trained on Michelin Bi-synergic 23mm clinchers, they were absolutely superb! then Michelin moved onto the pro race which I never thought much of so went over to Conti's. Would hope these new Michelin's are what they claim.

    Bicyclerollingresistance confirms this is the fastest road bike tire when it comes to tire rolling resistance. But that comes at a durability hit which is expected.

    Was it Wheel Energy in Finland that did the independent testing? They need to do more tests. A range of tests over each variable. E.g. a range of tests where the weight varies, a range of tests where the tyre pressure varies, a range of tests where the surface varies. The data then shows the effect of each variable.

  • @slt5431

    I'm using with this tyre for 7 months and travelled around 700km. For performance, I would say it provide excellent rolling feedback from the road with the latex tube. But in durability, I'd say is just average, I have experienced a puncture at ~500km and the tyre wear is faster then I expected, I can see some of the protection layer at the sidewall (imperceptible). Overall, I think this tyre is a really outstanding option for racing purposes not good for training.

  • @feedbackzaloop
    @feedbackzaloop 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Unlike aerodynamics mechanical properties change consistently, so if a tyre compound has less hysteresis in one conditions, it will have less in other too. The Zipp findings about pressure are not so much about tyres themselves, but use scenarios.
    However it is true to say that testing tyres not at same pressures but at pressures (and with rim width) recommended by the manufacturer is a fairer holistic approach, but currently people want to compare apples to apples, so 6,5 for everyone, folks
    120vs160 tpi can be rather explained by economical aspect: tubular is a premium option, can justify the costs. You also add confusion when talking tube vs tubeless while both have same 120.

    I changed my s works turbo 26mm for 25mm GP 5000s tubeless, I didn’t notice a difference at all, I think the marginal gains in all of these things only really benefits the pros that are squeezing every single gram of performance out of the kit. I think it’s the same with groupsets, dura ace is no use to casual rider, because the rider is no where near there peak ability

    • @waynosfotos
      @waynosfotos  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It is true, many of these claimed gains are extremely small and make no difference, compared to bigger gains, like rider position. Rolling resistance, although real, is a much smaller variable than other benefits like aero, i.e. rider optimised rider position.
