Quite an incredible 0-60 time of 2.8s with 1- almost no traction and 2- considering this is a manual...Thank you Motorweek for your wonderful shows on TH-cam.
Munditimum - Don't believe the hype. I've owned Corvettes since 1992 and three Z06s (so far). The manual is actually faster 0-60mph. The gearing is better and you don't change gears until after 60mph so you're in first the whole time. GM has been pushing that "automatic is faster" bullsh*t for years now because they want to sell more cars. The automatic costs less to make, they charge more for it, and you can sell more of them because most people are lazy and want an automatic. It's just $$$ in their pocket. Watch Randy Pobst's track test at Sears Point from a few years ago. The GM executives told him the automatic was faster around the track and he agreed until he drove the manual. He went faster and faster with each lap. Just my two pennies. Have a great day.
We are so lucky to live in a age where you can go to your local dealership and purchase car's making 6-700 HP. And the car's are comfortable and affordable ( compared to Italian exotics) and you can drive them to the grocery store and then go to the track. I think the true muscle car era is now. Sorry 60's muscle car fans but the car's of today are way superior to those old metal death traps. Now anybody have 90,000 I could borrow, I saw a vette that I just have to have.
Those 60s muscle cars were affordable to the people that wanted them. This is a very important factor that can't be ignored. 6 figures is the price of most people's cars they'd own over the course of a couple of decades.
Nope, the charme of the muscles of the 60ies is unreached. Superior my ass. You don''t buy a car to crash. Just learn to drive. Chances to die in a car crash without being to blame is low. :)
Interesting how Callaway bumped the power up mostly by adding the 2.3L supercharger. The 1.7L in the regular Z06 is too small and didn't have the proper cooling, causing overheating in track use. Kind of ironic that the last gen ZR1 had the same size 2.3L supercharger and didn't have cooling issues. Chevy should have used that 2.3L from the beginning.
They put the 1.7L in because they wanted to keep a low hood line. Callaway had to cut the hood to create space for their 2.3L. Personally I'd rather have a supercharger sticking out of my hood and running/looking cool all day instead of deal with any overheating. The extra horsepower is just an added benefit. :D
LynksysV Keeping a low hood line was GM's lame excuse after they had realized they made a mistake. The TVS 2300 will fit under the stock hood with no modifications. The reason why it sticks through the hood on this particular application is because of the (larger) triple-element intercooler configuration.
it ran a 2:44 stock without the Callaway. Not sure how much faster it would be since there is no suspension tuning. Only thing is it may run cooler since of the bigger blower.
yesterday I punched my c7 z06 in first and not that hard I thought. I was in SPORT mode with full TC and the TC light came on but the back end immediately came in. Now in the old c6 z06 that thing kicked like a mule and literally had the tail out at 90 degrees. The new car with the EDIFF and much stickier optional CUP tires is a more controllable car by far then the c6 z06.
I have the Z06, but it doesn’t need more power. It needs more traction. I am putting Toyo R888R tires on it in the Summer. This should get me 2.8 0-60 and 10.8 1/4.
So a Procharger system, the base of which is around $7000, gives you 825 HP at the crank, and figure $10,000 installed and tuned, no need to cut a hole in your hood. Plus completely reversible. Plus centrifugal superchargers make more sense for a 6.2 L motor which already has enough torque to smoke the tires even without forced induction so it drives more predictably. And has a cool turbo sound instead of the Hellcat whine which I hate. Z06 is my next car, current '15 Z51 has 600 crank, 520 RWHP and is plenty for the street.

The Callaway Corvette is nothing. I've got a 2015 Corvette Z07 1,200 HP twin turbo with racing transmission. Super fast 0-60 and 2.7 seconds. Oh did I mention it's all wheel drive AWD. Blows away anything and it'll keep up with a Ferrari looking in the rear view mirror!.
Z-06 is a better handler and easier to drive overall, ZR-1 is brute and requires a good driver to corner well but it would take the Z-06 in a straight line easy because Z-06 has too many wings and spoilers, ZR-1 is more pure GT Class.
Damn!!! I just wish the Z06 would deliver that kind of performance right out of the GM's factory. And I'm sure this Callaway Z06 is capable of producing even better acceration figures, as Motor Week usually don't achieve the best acceleration results for cars that they test on their track.
