Thanks for this! Almost close to buying the Macbook Air M2 this month, perfect timing that I watched this video.. Can you recommend accessories (portable monitor, keyboard etc) for the Mac Mini when travelling and doing remote work?
Yes, definitely, right now the espresso monitors are the best portable monitor and get their power from the computer itself. I would say though the Mac mini won’t replace a laptop so if you need a laptop wait for the m4 air to get released. It just works really well as a portable desktop
Yep! Will work on that some time soon, next video is going to be about editing on it full time as I’ve been using it primarily for editing to stress test it. Once that’s over server video definitely next
@@f0restwow now I get the best of both worlds :) a good NAS ends up being more expensive and I have tons of Thunderbolt 3 and 4 drives with crazy transfer speeds. I’m loving it
Deja vu. How are compressor exports vs the M1 Pro? I usually film in all-I and run it down to a high bitrate h.265. My m1 pro 14 macbook pro (lol) never manages it realtime or better. If the mini in pro or vanilla guise beats it, I want it.
I just watched someone else who was editing 8K video on his M4 pro Mac mini which kept crashing in DaVinci Resolve but he and some commenters believe that it may be a software issue with possibly Sequoia. This is the link to the the video: th-cam.com/video/BY7_YeO1JII/w-d-xo.htmlsi=VrL_JYNmeQXvq9Fr
I did the same thing Geoff!! It'll be my desktop for my M3 MacBook Pro. Mine's comes Wednesday thanks for the video! Great job
The M4 mini is insane value for money.
Yup!!
Yessss thanks for this. I need a computer asap but not sure what to get and this is the right price with crazy power.
It's a great computer! You're going to love it. Check the amazon links looks like they are doing $50 off through Black Friday.

I'd like to see a video where you detail your server use.
That is a great idea!
Can someone tell me if the base M4 could edit 5.1k video at 50 fps or would I be looking at the pro chip ?
It all depends on the codec, it can handle most. Canon raw is still the hardest.
I have been looking at upgrading my M1 Mac Mini to the M4 Mac Mini. You kept referencing the $600 Mac Mini. Did you get the base model?
@@AndrewTindale yes I did! I did mention in the video I got the base model
Guess I lucked out - my Mini does 3800+ and 15000+ multi on Geekbench. That…or you had something running in the background.
Do you have the base model? I just ran geekbench didnt have anything running but I did install all my programs like davinci, plugins etc
@@ReachFilmsYou absolutely should be getting at least ~3800 for single core on M4 Mini (Geekbench 6.3).
can you do a video on doin a server setup and how you use it at home and away? greatly appreciated

Great video Geoff. Definitely going to pick one of these up myself.
Thanks Nick! It’s really the best value from Apple in years
What you needed was NAS. Not a mini :)

@@POVwithRC for real lol, few issues with the first version quality
@@POVwithRC the export for this video wasn’t bad but I need to work on some more videos to better evaluate. So far solid value
Please, no more unboxing video's, enough!

I’m not sure about 8k. In this video I only mention cameras that top out at 6k. So unfortunately I don’t have experience with 8k on the Mac mini
