Great footage of very rare behaviour, your lucky to able film one in the open and on your own, when I filmed this same behaviour 4 years ago now the spot I was in was just full of very noisy people. Great stuff :)

Heard one at RSPB Ouse Fen in June this year, when it was cloudy. The bird was somewhere in the middle of the reedbed section of the reserve (it is very large compared to most reserves I have been to), and I could hear it all over the reedbed section. They are known as Britain's loudest bird for a reason. Also saw one the day before yesterday, got some photos too. :D
A T-rex would have been much deeper, to communicate with its kind over greater distances, much like elephants do today. You would have felt it more than hearing it.
I have them in my area and listen to them every night. I love the booming sound, it's so eerie and soothing at the same time. Always wondered what kind of bird does that. Now I showed this video to everyone who live with me and for some neighbors so they know what it is. Despite living for so long here, nobody (my parents, grandparents, etc.) never paid too much attention to them nor saw the bird as it is a camouflage master. Edit: top right corner of Poland is where I listen to them
This is called booming. Certain birds like grouses, ostriches and bitterns do that. They stretch their neck and inflate that, or use a specialized neck pouch for that.
I lived in a Polish village for a few years. You could hear one of these things do it’s call from kilometers away! They usually lived near a lake. When we went to our local lake, we usually heard it. It’s beautiful nature…
When i was a child i used to h arthis every summer. Since the boice was cining from the wide of the lake which was 2km away from my home i always thought the sound came from wind blowing into bottle lol. Only in my 20s i somehow tound out its a bird. In reality it sounds differnet, like i said you could heat it from at least 2km away. Amazing sound.
Wait I thought they didn't make any noises this time of year... Ive been to a few lakes with these things and even saw one a few days ago but no sound anywhere
@@mojosuzo9617 Right if its new zealand then its a different species, That would be the australasian or brown bittern as far as im aware, if you saw it consider yourself lucky cuz its an endangered species. There used to be another species of bittern in new zealand but it died out in the late eighten hundreds as its habitat was destroyed
I ran across this because, in Patrick O'Brian's The Nutmeg of Consolation, one of the characters mentions a bird known as 'the bull of the bog' and, naturally, the Great Bittern is what that turned out to be!
Čuveni Bukavac. Old people here on Balkans were afraid of that sound, and considered it some big nasty thing, creature of the night. It can be heard for kilometers away-.
Behold, the number one basis on the study of dinosaur vocalization... Yep.
yes.
I came here from the "What did volicaraptors actaully sound like" your mind is my ware house, video
I came from what carnotaurus sounded like.
Alligators and cassowaries were also used.
A cassowary’s calls sound like grunting and alligators let out a loud, gurgling “burp” sound.
Or bunyip
This bird is trying to cast a spell that’s on cooldown

You also coment that on the velociraptor video 😂😂😂😂
I thought i saw your nave on that video
If you think about it, he actually sounds like someone saying Eeeeee very stupidly.
Sounds like video game sound effects
So this is what I heard in swamp. Very strange sound, indeed.

@@dragon-mw5ru ... Jurassic park reference but sure, friggin sherlock holmes was in Jurassic park xD.
Such a weird but oddly cute bird, love how proud it looks (0:39) after the performance! Of course, what's not to be proud of?
Ngl that looks pretty badass
He sounds like a broken trombone but sure. Great performance.
It seems to inflate in the manner of a bagpipe, taking on air to fill the sound cavity before letting out the call. Incredible creature, thank you
We have a swamp at the back of our garden, I hear this strange sound literally every 10 minutes in summer :D
What country?

Exactly what I was thinking. The inventory noise from SH2 and 3.

To me it sounds a little lower-pitched than that sound effect but it's very similar.
Now imagine this amplified a hundred times. Ladies and gentlemen you have a dinosaur
A bigger dinosaur, considering that one is a dinosaur as well.
The one in the video already is a dinosaur
So, dinosaurs sound like the THX intro?
That sound it makes is like something from the dinosaur age!
Because all birds are dinosaurs.
it is! velociraptors likely made very similar sounds!
The call of this bird would best be described as similar to some one blowing over the top of a bottle
Exactly. When I was a kid used to think exactly that. every summer hearing this mating call from nearby lake 2km away.
I came here because of Dangerville's Veloceraptors sound video anyone else?
Jackie Lee yep

Dam that is a strange sound, talk about resonance.
I have watched this over and over. The strangeness, silliness, wild adaptibility and deep beauty of nature all combined in 50 seconds.
Excellent video, one of the best on TH-cam! So interesting to see up close how the bird sings.
An absolutely gorgeous bird.

At last a recording in which you actually hear the bittern! A rare thing indeed on TH-cam.
Now I know who wrote this notification sound on my phone.

This bird is amazing not only do they sound like water but I'd wonder what a tuba player was doing out in the swamp if i heard this. And so cute!
