I remember watching this cartoon as a kid, now I'm 22 and Im surprised that others enjoyed this cartoon as much as I did. Those ants looked so cute especially that one who contemplates to break the glass haha. I will make sure when i have kids they will enjoy quality cartoons like these
i was actually born in 2000 so most kids never even heard of these cartoons but i never had cable so my dad always bought home these cassette tapes with these cartoons aha they were great!
I remember watching a lot of Fleischer Cartoons as a kid, I grew up watching cartoons all my life, and there are some that I have never seen before, this is one of them and it is just plain cute. It used to never bother me how when the characters speak in those high chipmunk like voice I couldn't make out what they were saying. Now that I'm older 26 that is, I want to know what their saying, the soldier ants' singing is just too cute for words.
Another insect cartoon, my 2nd favorite genre, another great voice characterization from the gutsy queen, and more of the Fleischer's signature lush visuals. And someone could write a paper on the psychoanalytics of the ant eaters rather astonishing and ambiguous snout. Another of my favorite and somewhat signature Fleischer cartoon motifs, those unique creative combinations of disparate common objects, like an ear of corn and a magnifying glass, into weapons for an unequal battle.,
Jeanette is the Voice of the queen, and Simon is the voice for all the other ants. LOL, Just kidding. Thank you sooo mouch for the upload. I was searching for this video for about 10 years. also, the VHS I used to have with this on here was in Black and white, so I do appreciate the color.
@ifyouseekayou what i didnt realize was the voices they used are like chipmunks, im 19 now and im just shocked i love it! its more creative and unexpected rather than what todays cartoons are like
This terrified me when I was a kid. I have been looking for it for ages as I only had vague memories of it. The new Cuphead game on Xbox One made me find it as the art style was the same. Fleischer, Thanks!
I was born in 2002 and I remember seeing this cartoon as a child and being terrified of it. For some reason this cartoon gave me nightmares and as I've gotten older, I've been trying to find it.
I grew up with this video and other Fleischers as a kid because my mom found them on an old cassette tape at a yard sale. Nowadays every time I hear someone say "uncle" I go "Yeah! Ummahummablimmablmblalumblmaubmlamlaumlbalaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!" (or something like that, it's mostly gibberish lol)
@mrchuckmorris FYI, it's actually "for our brothers and our sisters and our nephews and our cousins and our aunts(ants)!" I watched when I was a kid too! My grandma had this on a video.
Good lord, I had totally forgotten this until the poster of the anteater! I probably haven't seen it in almost 40 years. I remember thinking the ants were mean little bastards for dumping all that stuff in his nose.
OK I just listened to it again. yup, you nailed it! that was quite impressive. my hat's off to you sir. I say old chap, really good show govner.. pip pip and cheerio!
@Rlotpir1972 1940--You win the turkey. Lots of similar themed cartoons at the time, thanks to what was going on in Europe, as you're obviously well aware. My favorite was a WB toon with a cat becoming ruler of a colony of mice, that used "My Mama Done Told Me" and "We Did It Before and We Can Do It Again" as the basis for the songs.
LOL@ talking about watching this 70 year old cartoon when you were a kid....18 years ago! Now THAT's funny! I've got a daughter older than you and this cartoon is way older than me....and I'm 50! It's even older than my father....probably made when my grandfather was a kid! They even sing like the Munchkins on The Wizard Of Oz!
@SIMPFANN THANK YOU! That is exactly right, it's also on YT-- Again, I had forgotten the element of the cat tricking one mouse into being his "agent", makes the title very appropriate.
I've been looking for this for so long! Was there ever a movie with a collection of this style of cartoons on it? I remember the VHS I'm talking about had a section with hens in it (and maybe too cocks fighting) and something about fireflies, or bugs on fire? A name would be greatly appreciated
This cartoon used to really freak me out as a kid. I always hated to part where the ants pour all that stuff in his nose. I'm not suprised this gave peolple nightmares.
I wonder if someone found the original titles to these cartoons. Most of the "restored" Color Classics seen here have had their existing titles Photoshopped to approximate their originality, close to how they were originally shown before they were altered by NTA in the 1950's.
I wonder what year this was made; the ants sound like the Munchkins from the Wizard of Oz and the queen ant sounds like Glinda , the witch of the North.
i was going to say Mid- 30's.. since they introduced colour animation in 1934.perhaps at late 1938. but i just checked. Its from 1940! i amazed that they retained the style of animation.
does anyone know one of these cartoons where there was a battle between a group of gnomes and a group of trolls? I've been searching for it, but can't remember what it's called. And the gnomes fought by throwing milk at their opponent.
@xpertbooks For some reason, I had not remembered it being in color until I looked it up on TH-cam some time ago. (And our TVs were in color, so it wasn't that.) But the rest of it had stuck with me.
Quite right. It may be called a trunk by some, but as my wife said when she got hers broken, "Id'z dot tupposed to be plegzible!" Did i mention my wife is an anteater?
Make him yell "Uncle" (Uncle, yeah!) And let him feel your boot, (We'll let him feel our boot!) For our brothers and our sisters, for our nephews and our cousins, and our aunts. We're not a-scared of anything at all We're not a-scared of anything that's tall (If we see him first ) Make him yell "Uncle" (Uncle, yeah!) And sock him in the snoot, (We'll sock him in the snoot!) For our brothers and our sisters, for our nephews and our cousins, and our aunts. We'll make him yell "Uncle" yeah!
@xpertbooks It's funny what kind of impression things can make on a kid's mind. Bad as this is, it's still a lot less terrifying than THE COBWEB HOTEL!
I'm 23, and I LOVE these classic cartoons. My cousins and I used to watch these cartoons aaaalll the time when we were younger too! =)

I did. I mostly watch the old Mickey, Bugs Bunny, and Popeye cartoons, though I still see these older cartoons.
I will watch these classic cartoons until I die!
This is one of the first cartoons I ever remember watching. I am now 25 and enjoy it just as much now!

It's crazy how you watch some cartoons you watched as a kid, and you realize how little you actually understood of what was going on.
I am 27 and watched this as a kid... its still good! :)
Im 22 now and I LOVE this cartoon, I alsoi enjoyed it as a child :)
I remember watching these cartoons with my family, good times good times. :)
The opening scene is some of the best layering in animation that I have ever seen.
@bamboleo THANK YOU SO MUCH I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS FOR OVER THREE YEARS, BUT WITHOUT THE TITLE I COULDN'T FIND IT!!!

@AlmightyToonGod That's right, this was featured on the "Luau for Two" episode from season 1.

Good lord, I had totally forgotten this until the poster of the anteater! I probably haven't seen it in almost 40 years. I remember thinking the ants were mean little bastards for dumping all that stuff in his nose.

The Fleischers are awesome cartoonists!
OK I just listened to it again. yup, you nailed it! that was quite impressive. my hat's off to you sir. I say old chap, really good show govner.. pip pip and cheerio!
Blast from the past.

Anteaters are mammals that pray on ants (obviously) as well as termites.
@xpertbooks Thank you so much for the Translation!

i was going to say Mid- 30's.. since they introduced colour animation in 1934.perhaps at late 1938. but i just checked. Its from 1940! i amazed that they retained the style of animation.

That's not an anteater. Anteaters are sweet and beautiful. this is some sort of bizarre wolf-elephant hybrid.
MY CHILDHOOD
Is that a queen ant's voice that looks like Alvin Seville?
@Jinxxed0 There's something very Freudian about the anteater's snout.
Quite right. It may be called a trunk by some, but as my wife said when she got hers broken, "Id'z dot tupposed to be plegzible!" Did i mention my wife is an anteater?
I remember this when I was a kid..but was it black and white
@mrchuckmorris YES YES YES YES. Same with me. I NEEEED THAT TAPE. What was it called?
