After disassembling everything, I was so scared of putting it all back together but like every long road trip... the coming back was so much quicker!! I kept putting this off for so long because I was nervous and thought I couldn't fix it but now thanks to you and your incredibly clear step by step instructions... I did it!!! You are an angel for saving all of us here lots of money while building our confidence!! Thank you so so much!! God bless you and your awesome channel!! You got a subscriber for life!!
We watched a few different videos. This was the very most informative & easiest to follow. Thank you for taking the time to make the video
The world needs more helpful people like this guy. Cheers mate.
really busy dad here - after 1 beer and about 45 minutes my dyson v11 works again with a new metal trigger.
what a GREAT VID, thanks a lot for it ❤️❤️❤️
Glad to hear from another busy dad! That's great! Thanks for letting me know, haukepauke7963!
Same here- busy dad but this video saved the family V11! Thank you
Thank you very much for the video. What the trigger is still very unmovable when put back in, it is very stiff. Any trick for that? Thank you!
This is hands down the best video I’ve ever seen on u tube. All information nothing else ,now I need to find that trigger clip. Thank you😊
My local appliance centre has just fobbed me off saying it was irreparable - thanks to your video I'm going to give it a go myself. The clear instructions you give here are probably the best I've seen on TH-cam regardless of topic! Thank you!
Thank you so much for this video. Dyson service centre wanted to charge me a motor replacement but I felt something wasn’t right about their diagnostic. I saw your video and it’s exactly what was wrong with my V10 Dyson. I can’t believe how they wanted to charge me a new motor just to make more money. I’m glad I saw your video. It saved me so much money. 👍👍👍😀😀😀
Thank you for being so patient to put this video together! Besides financial savings, it has shown my family the importance of experimentation and perseverance!
Followed the steps and it totally worked. Thank you Tech4Baba👍🏻😄
Writing this in 2024.. Dyson has put a glue (?) all over the board now, so it was such a hassle to remove all the glue jelly. Scrapping off bit by bit, i was so afraid to scratch the board, or accidentally cut off a wire. And the torx screw on the board is almost impossible to remove now, because of the glue. FYI.
Really excellent and thanks
My v10 had a off-min-max assembly on the top of the cleaner into which a small circuit board fits in from the white backing cover - I left this outside and had to reassemble the white cover a little, I note it is not in your example at all, must be small differences.
Would be good to mention the red trigger should not be springy at the start as it will pop out and work when the battery unit is inserted - I spend a small amount of time figuring this out, thinking there was something wrong.
Very minor point but be careful with singular/plurals in English.
Thanks for your great feedback and suggestions, @headingtonheritage7721! Yeah, sounds like small differences in the V10 circuit board and assembly. Glad you were able to fix yours!
Agreed, the trigger not being sprung when first inserted fooled me until I realise the battery assembly was needed for it to feel 'right'
Same re the trigger! I thought the spring needed replacing as well. Glad I scrolled down to the comments and realised it was meant to be like that until the beattery is inserted, phew!
Thanks so much, you saved me the cost of a new vac! I'm a 72yr old woman. Your step by step was hust like having you by my side. ❤
Your video was clear, concise and easy to follow! Had my Dyson repaired in no time. Thanks!
Great to hear! Thanks for watching and letting me know, @John040799!
I’m a 70 year old woman, and just saved us $150 CDN by watching this video and buying a metal trigger. this is a FANTASTIC video. I got the trigger clip too, which makes vacuuming easier for someone with arthritis in their hands.
A 45 year old single lady says thank you because there’s no way I could have paid to get this fixed. I didn’t have thin nosed pliers, mine wouldn’t fit in the thingy to pull those thingy bobs through and that took ages, so will buy some for next time, but thank you great video. Mission accomplished 😃
I used your video to replace my broken trigger. By far your video was the easiest to follow. This is my first broken trigger to replace. Not hard, but did take a lot of patience. Thank you!
Thanks for letting me know, @charlestonyouthcompany2617! Too bad Dyson makes it so difficult. Glad you were able to fix yours!
Awesome video! I actually called Dyson about this issue (Aug 2024) and even though my warranty expired in DEC 2020, I said it was a manufacture defect and that it’s a known issue. The representative sent me a new main body and cyclone free of charge. This was after I was told my warranty expired - it’s all about wording and saying it’s a known manufacturer defect. Hope this helps anyone else out there who has also spent a good amount on a quality vacuum, that has some parts that need better engineering. Overall, I’m still very happy with my Dyson, and I’ll be able to have two batteries now with new body that’s coming in.
does yours light up when connected to charger?
My warranty expired in July and same thing, the Dyson rep is sending me a new body. Didn't have to explain anything, just offered to replace it. As you say it must be a known fault/weakness so to protect their reputation. It is a great vac when its operating.
Wish this was the same in the UK. I contacted them today and they want £105 for a new body refused to send a free replacement because warranty has expired. Guess I’ll be ordering a new switch from Amazon…
You just saved me about £450 buying a new Dyson. Superb video. Thanks so much!
Great! Thanks for watching and letting me know, @markdixon8625!
Thanks for the video. I fixed my Dyson easily. Thank you so much.
I used this video to repair my Dyson trigger. Followed exactly as the author described to include purchasing the new reinforced trigger & T8 screwdriver. Worked great! Thank you for posting this and the toughness of your instructions!
Glad to hear, @jafackl! Thanks for watching and letting me know! Hope your Dyson last for a long long time!
Great tutorial my friend-saved me a small fortune!!!🙏
Glad to hear! Thanks for watching and sharing, @gavinclark9179!
Thank you, I was quoted $400 by our local vacuum centre. With this video it cost me $20 for the part and shipping plus 1.5 hours time (I didn’t have quite the right tools so had to do some workarounds to get some of the screws out). Great video, this is my first time trying to fix something myself.
Awesome! Glad to hear. Thanks for letting me know, @user-pn5zl7fm5g!
Perfect instructions.. worked like a charm... thanks a million!
Glad to hear! Thanks for watching and letting me know, @jimanderson5479!
Yes! It’s worked perfectly. Thank you ❤
Great! Thanks for watching and letting me know, @TheWCHWA!
Thanks for your video. I had issues with intermittent power on my V10, knew it wasn’t the battery, followed your video and replaced the broken trigger. I hope you don’t mind but I posted the video link on the Dyson community as so many customers face this issue and no doubt a percentage of these are the broken trigger.
Glad to hear! Yeah, this seems to be a common issue unfortunately. Thanks for watching and sharing it, @markhoward8141!
This is by far the most useful video I have ever found on TH-cam. I easily found the new trigger and 6 Swiss francs later instead of 145 for what dyson were going to charge me for the repair and I fixed it myself! Many thanks
Glad to hear! Thanks for watching and letting me know, @chrissimkiss9043!
holy crap i cant believe i was able to disassemble it and put it back together and still work!!! thank you for this video!
Yeah me too! But I did it too.
I don't know why you aren't upset with this flawed design by Dyson. I certainly am. I have the V10 and the trigger broke on me in close to a years time. I have since replaced the trigger similar with the one you have. The package looked the same anyways. Guess what? It broke...again. I was ready to give in & buy another Brand (Makita) cordless vacuum, but decided to replace the trigger one last time. Like you said it isn't too difficult, but it does take some time. The bending of the meta plates I am leery about. I noticed there is a beefier trigger out there. It has a thin layer of metal. I will replace it with this version when I receive it.
u saves the day and my wallet.Thank you so much !
Glad to hear, @juliendel7455 ! Thanks for watching and sharing with us!
You’re an absolute legend, followed along from start to finish and fixed it. Thank you so much for the video!! Great work💪🏻
I've done the repair according to this video and it worked. I had a big difference in my vacuum on the way though, the whole PCB with connected wires and battery cables was sealed with some glue-like substance. I had to cut it out with knife, which was risky, but worked.
Thank you so much for your video in replacing the V11 trigger, it was expertly explained and inspires confidence,I’ve ordered a stronger trigger and will be following your video to a T 🤩 👍
I just went through this step-by-step after purchasing a kit on Amazon that included the metal replacement trigger and a torx screwdriver. And (...drumroll...) it worked like magic, and my family was well impressed. ONE TIP TO NOTE -- once you push the trigger assembly (with the new trigger) back up into the handle, the trigger button will be sticking out in its original place but won't feel springy and won't seem like it's going to work. You need to reassemble everything and power it up before the trigger actually works. Cheers!
Top man - followed it to the tee - now fixed 😊
I was quoted $400AUD by Dyson to fix the trigger.
Following your video I fixed it borrowing someone else’s tools for free and $15 trigger replacement. Thank you so much for your great work and easy to follow steps. I have liked and subbed ❤. Cherish every moment
Great video! The instructions were spot on and gave me the confidence to do the trigger replacement. I would not have dreamed of dong this without the detailed instructions. I had extreme difficulty removing the Phillips case screws - especially the battery screw. I had to use a lot of strength to slowly unscrew them, sometimes a quarter turn or less while pressing hard to make sure the tip was seated in the screw. The Dyson screws are crap and are easily damaged. Fortunately, the kit I purchased included replacement Phillips and torx screws. I found removing the white connector easy by just using my finger nail to pry it up. It pops up and out and snaps back in easily. Thanks again for the detailed instructions. It saved me a lot of money in repairs.
Just replaced my trigger. Has anyone else come across the entire circuit board, connections, everything covered in a silicone coating? Also I found a wiring cap between the trigger assembly and circuit board. Made the entire process a big pain. The whole circuit board under the white cap just covered in silicone. Smh
It works. ❤❤thank you
Just used your video to fix my V11 pro. Ordered the button, tools and trigger holding switch which work really well. Holding the trigger down has always been an issue for me. Now problem solved. Thanks
Thanks. I'm about to do this for my ex's V11 (I'm guessing it's a trigger issue). I've been fixing stuff since I was a kid 55 years ago (ok, I started taking stuff apart when I was a kid, slightly older before re-assembly :) ).
Back then, almost everything came with an exploded parts diagram. Now, I check YT for stuff like this. (there are still diagrams and part numbers for many things online)
Ya gotta love it when manufacturers use multiple fasteners/screw heads (Phillips and Torx in this case) GUH.
Nice job. Clear, concise, etc.
I think I did everything according to the video and put everything back and the vacuum won’t turn off 😆. I might’ve connected the metal terminal wrong.
Did u fixed I have the same issue 😆
@@manuelirizarry9982 lol where did we f up. I just ordered a new cyclone and the motor from Dyson.
This video saved me from buying a new vacuum. Dyson wouldn’t replace the body for me, they only offered 30% off, and in top of that the body is out of stock right now. They were willing to charge me to fix it at a service center but it was 2 hours away from San Diego. So I’m really disappointed in Dyson, but really appreciative of this content creator!
Thanks so much for creating this very detailed step-by-step tutorial. With your video as my guide I was able to successfully change my trigger, and changed my battery while I was at it. My Torx 8 screwdriver was not able to access the two screws holding the wire cover, but a crafty setup with a 1/4 socket wrench and Torx 8 bit I was able to get into the cylinder at a 90deg angle. For anyone attempting this, while dismantling I would highly recommend laying the screws out in circles on a piece of paper to group/label which ones are which, as they are similar but of varying lengths/thread.
Fantastically detailed and well explained video with every step explained. The V11 is working again!! Thanks, you are the MASTER! I can't imagine what the assembly line is like at the factory!! This thing wasn't engineered for building or repairing - but it does have a very fancy 'cyclone' styling on the outer plastic which is clearly there to look cool. It wasn't clear until well into the video that the Torx driver required was a size 8. I was also very confused when i mounted the new switch back into the handle: I expected the finger bit to 'pop out' of the handle. I now realise that the handle seems to pop out only when the power/battery is in place. Seems really unecessary over engineering - in fact a simpe on/off rocker switch would be much preferable in every way.
Thank you so much for your guidance! I followed you step by step and managed to successfully switch out the broken trigger. The vacuum is as good as new! And I feel so proud of myself :D
Good job! Glad to hear. Thanks for watching and letting me know, @EretzLaAm!
I am not very technically skilled. I repaired my dyson V10 in a couple of hours with the metal trigger replacement. Thank you so much! You saved me from buying a brand new vacuum!!!
Awesome! Glad to hear. Thanks for watching and letting me know, @user-qk4pf7us3g!
I was about to sink $650 into a new Dyson when I found your video and I was able to successfully change the trigger. Like many others, I went with the metal trigger and now I hope to get a few more good years out of this vacuum. Thank you :)
Many thanks for this video. I'm pretty useless when it comes to repairs and can generally be relied upon to create another couple of jobs when tackling one. With your help and a kit from China that cost about £6 I have managed to repair my £400 Dyson.
Thanks so much for posting this!! I successfully changed the trigger. My local vacuum repair person said they don't do this and he didn't know anyone in town who would because it takes too long. Best part... this Wifey did the job solo while Hubby is out of town!! 💪👩🔧
Great video! Super clear instructions and easy to follow. Thank you for making this and sharing it-you’re helping a lot of people!
worth the effort! My vacuum works again perfectly! I, too, replaced the trigger with a metal piece. Thank you!
I wasn't so lucky , the while trigger assembly is really stuck in there and completely broke while trying to pull it out.
Pins and all broke and the plastic piece is still stuck in there... fml
Thank you! My husband was able to repair our 3 year old vacuum, saving us $150 that Dyson wanted to charge us for another head. I opted for the heavy duty trigger. It works perfectly. Thank you again.
Thanks, .Could not have done the job without you ! Have done these before but still found this video essential. An awful job and very dusty !!
Many thanks for your great video, it has been very helpful to replace the plastic body (with trigger) that contains the trigger, mine was broken in several parts, and thanks to you I have now a brand new Dyson V11🎉🎉😊❤
You my friend are absolutely brilliant. This is by far the most detailed instruction on ANYTHING on the internet :-) Thank you. Stay blessed!
thankyou for extremely helpfull video, i fix Dyson V10 trigger follow this video 👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Everything went smoothly, but when I popped the battery in and squeezed the trigger, I heard a pop. Looks like I fried the board. I checked and I don't think I crossed the wires--I had the red on the left and the black on the right. What gives? Is it toast or is the board replaceable? Thanks.
I opened, replaced the trigger and put it back together with no problem. But now, it doesn’t work. 🤦🏽♂️
what could’ve cause this to happen? I plugged the cable back in the motherboard and battery terminals put back the way they were.
The battery life indicator turns on when i pull the trigger but nothing happens.
Pls help
Awesome!!!! You saved me some bucks as well… your step by step instructions are amazing!!! Thank you so much😃
Great video! Thanks! One suggestion: at 7:40, before pushing the trigger assembly back to its position, already place the T8 screw on its place. Makes it sooo much easier!
Thank you!
Great ….and our Dyson now has a working trigger. Thankyou for making a great video. I struggled getting the big terminals back through the cap but rather than using pliers to pull them through and risk damaging the small wire I threaded a bit of string through the terminal holes and used that to pull them through. Worked a treat for me.
Nice video! I just replaced the switch on my v10 Animal. I did notice that there is an extra sensor on my model located at the top of the control board that sticks into back housing that must be treated with care. It is a sensor that identifies the position of the speed switch (low, med, high). Other than that, it was pretty much identical.
Thanks. Worked perfectly.
Great to hear! Thanks for watching and sharing, @hansgisch6748!
I have followed you video and replaced the trigger, but now my vacuum goes.glat within 15 seconds when fully charged, what could I have done wrong
Just installed new metal trigger. Now, the vacuum will turn on with the trigger but stays on until I pull the trigger again. Would accidently switching the red and black wires be the cause?
I disassembled it and changed the button but I don't understand why once mounted it doesn't come back, whereas if I try it outside the hoover it works.
In any case, by dint of disassembling and reassembling, the pin on which the button screw is screwed and one of the connectors broke...I'll see whether or not to continue or change the motor body.
Anyway, one suggestion: to extract the button it is more convenient to push from the cables with the connectors rather than pulling from below.
My V10 for some reason had a bunch of rubbery plastic stuff coating the circuit board that i had to peel off to access the screws. Then the trigger assembly just would not come out. No matter how i wiggled or how hard i pulled. I even pulled out one of the copper plug things. They just built my v10 in a way that it could never be repaired for some reason. Im now out of a vacuum.
This worked! Went with the metal replacement trigger to avoid letting it crack again. Thanks for the detailed tutorial!
Thank you so much for the very clear video. I just repaired my dyson by myself, using these instructions. Very proud of myself for that.
Thank you so much. It took me longer than for you . But I did it. I am Engineer. But I would not do it without your video. Thank you again .
Excellent video. It was absolutely invaluable in getting through this rather arduous DIY repair/replacement procedure. So thanks very much!
If you don't mind, I wanted to pass along a couple of observations that might be helpful to anyone planning to attempt this. First, the circuit board in my V11 was covered with a thin semi-transparent layer of what appeared to be silicon caulk. I had to scrape off the material in order to remove the torque screws as well as to disconnect the small wire connector. Second, the only part of this video that caused a little confusion for me was in disconnecting that small wire from the PCB. In watching the video, I thought it was the black wire that needed to be removed. It's actually the small thin red wire that is almost hidden by the black wire in the video. The black wire is soldered to the PCB. Fortunately I realized my mistake before doing any damage. Third, for me the hardest step by far in the entire replacement procedure was sliding the two terminals and the thin red wire back through the removable cover in the handle. The opening in that cover is very narrow and very tight and it took me nearly ten minutes and a fair amount of cursing to pull the three wires through. But once that was completed, the rest was all downhill. Thanks again for this very helpful video!
When trying to pull the housing cover I pulled too hard and it ripped the two wiring points that was holding the cover. I carefully put them back into those two holes when putting it back and give it a try. I thought I stuffed it up but it seems to be working and charging fine. Would you know what those two wires are for?
Spot on!!! Used this guide to fix my V10, fantastic video, greatly appreciated!
Thnk you.
BENT SPRING: the spring to the trigger was bent. Any suggestions to deal with this? Ugh.
Good video. Thank you very much. The original trigger was a weak piece , probably by design on purpose.
Just done mine … a real bitch of a job… but hey it’s fixed now… thanks for your help… much appreciated
For people with a 3D printer, Online you can find for free the model for the trigger and print it yourself. I did it and works fine
I need help.
I just got done doing this exact thing. Once I added the new trigger, the spring does not appear strong enough to cause it to close? Am I the only person? Please help 🙏
Could you let me know how to purchase that trigger clip l couldn’t find that information anywhere thank you Jim😊
One of screws that holds the terminal on was already stripped. What do I do? Everything went so smoothly until that point.
Awesome - thank you! I thought I might have to buy a new Dyson - instead I've replaced the trigger for approx NZ$15! Very happy 😎
Glad to hear! Thanks for watching and letting me know, @enthusiastsofbritishmotors!
😂e installed a new trigger and after attaching the spring it still didn’t push the red trigger button plug far enough to keep the vacuum running. An suggestions?
Thank you so much. I replaced the trigger but when I put the spring back on, there is no tension. Any idea what to do next?
Really want to thank you! My V11 is working perfectly again. You have helped me so much!!!!!!!! 🤗❤
Great! Thanks for watching and letting me know, @lexus996!
Thank you very much for the fab video!!! My vaccume's working now again yay🎉
Merci Dyson d'avoir conçu quelque chose d'aussi simple. (fumier que vous êtes)
Was exactly how you described and I changed it out. Perfect!
Thanks watched others doing to the same thing but this was much more informative. Love the trigger extension!
Thank you it took me 60 minutes even with a short torque screwdriver, I had bought two triggers off of Amazon prior now I’ll look for that trigger holder. Thank you so much again.
Glad to hear! Thanks for watching and letting me know, janetr3703! Did you find a good trigger holder?
Just replaced my trigger with a metal one seems to work fine but however it won't turn off, any ideas?
Finally, a video that shows each and every step! This is exactly how to do it. Thanks!
This was so so so helpful! Because we disassembled and then when it was time to put it back together we were screwed! Thanks for an informative video. We replaced trigger yay!
Great! Glad it worked for you, too! Thanks for letting me know, tinatinydancer!
Truly an excellent video. You deserve a medal......from Dyson!
Great video and love your advice about the gadget. We like the vacuum but that is the one disappointing feature.
Fantastic video, and thanks for saving me the $500 repair bill. All sorted for $5.
Great to hear! Thanks for watching and letting me know, @glridge!
Great video, easy instructions and we now have a working Dyson. Thankyou !!!
Well explained, thank you ! I did it exactly like you and it worked.
Just used this great video to do the repair and it worked, thanks a lot! I would say however that the absolute c***s at Dyson added a bit of "fun" in my case, because when I opened the white cap I had the surprise to discover a layer of a hardened gel-like subtance covering the circuits. So I pretty much had to dig out this layer to release the small cable from the circuit. Furthermore, the two iron clasps that you need to straighten a bit to get out through the plastic casing were wrapped in some black layer which made it much harder to straighten them using pliers (I actually ended up sawing off the bottom part of the casing to get them through). All in all, I find it outrageous that Dyson gets away with what I believe is programmed obsolence (I mean, everyone knows this is an issue, there are kits on Amazon specifically aimed at fixing this issue and yet it persists) and that it makes it so hard to fix the device. Where are consumer protection authorities? Dyson basically wants you to buy a new expensive vacuum after the shitty trigger inevitably gives in two years in or so into using the device or at the very least they want you to send it for repairs and pay what I am sure is a scandalous fee. Anyway, I needed to vent a bit as it took me two intense hours to fix this damn machine, but at least I got some satisfaction when I pressed that trigger at the very end :)
Thanks for sharing and letting me know, alexciungu! Good that Dyson is finally switching over to power buttons on the latest models. Even more glad you were able to fix yours!!
