  • In this video I bring out the 1982 El Camino to see what it needs to be put back on the road, so I work on it and continue the build of the 78.

    Lee you just reminded me I didn’t hook up my vent to the gas tank and I bet that’s why I’ve been having trouble. Thank you.

    You may know this already. I noticed the nicer cars you have under cover are parked on dirt. If you place some 2x10's down and drive up on them the tires won't dry rot. Or not dry rot as fast as leaving them on dirt. Keep it up. I enjoy watching and hearing your knowledge of the classics.

    Nice summary of work. Lots of small things that just need TLC. These all add up and previous owners give up. Fortunately Chevy very popular then, parts still can be found. Great discussion about too much gas tank pressure that overwhelms float bowl valve, flooding engine.

    I like that you are keeping the SS stock. I wonder if with your skills if you can sand the chrome trim on the door panels and paint them to look like brushed aluminum. Great channel.

    My 72 SS El Camino 350 four bolt main only to freeze plugs on each side. One freeze plug went out on the driver side front underneath the header that was hard enough to do and I put a rubber one in there and tighten that up then another one started leaking so I just pulled a motor replaced with brass soft plugs and for some reason there was a lot of gunk in the water system in the block so I had to do dush out which I think helped on the cooling.

    Can you blow the vent line out with your air compressor? The EVAP canister itself could be saturated as well. If the loose hose you showed is the purge line, it should be routed to recover the vapors when the engine is running. If you search 1978 El Camino SS. evap canister hose routing, you should see how it was routed from the factory.
    That's a limited slip rear diff. The console looks good!

    Those jugs that you used that have the rearend fluid in it if you stick a piece of hose on it that's like about 6 in long and makes it much easier.

    Too bad about the paint on the black El Camino,but I bet you know a good paint guy :)
    It would be neat once all done go for a ride in both El Camino's and see what the power difference is with the 1978 305 vs the 1982 with the 70's 350..Would make a good video,I think.

    There are aftermarket gauges holders that fit on the side piller. If you keep the door panels black, the center console would look great black too. Looks good either way 👍

  • @paulsampson6024

    That crossmember is aftermarket.. you can cut and weld a half circle into it.. but they cost about 300ish depending on if it’s jegs, summit or the eBay ones.. the car only came with single exhaust so the crossmember only has the bend in it for one pipe

    305’s don’t last? My ‘83 El Camino 305 has 275,000 and still going. Smokes when you crank it up but only uses about a quart every 3,000 miles. Never had the intake, oil pan, or timing cover off. My dad bought it in ‘86 with about 30,000 on it and we’ve used havoline 10w40 in it since.
    Good job on yours coming along nicely.

    Looking good, have you ever used the Oatey extra special medium black ABS cement, I bought some off Amazon or eBay and glued plastic back. I bought a sheet of ABS plastic to help melt together and I thank it might help you repair the plastic parts you have if you can’t find a set, They may have this at Lowe’s

  • @joelowery7300
    @joelowery7300 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Silver on top black on bottom. With red SS stickers. Kinda like a negative of the 82. And if you are going to repaint the 82 you can get all the color at once. I honestly don't know if it's cheaper or not. I just think they would look cool sitting next to each other with opposite paint jobs. I'm sure it's going to turn out awesome whatever color you go with. It's come a long way already.

    Paint the lower door panels camel color. The rest of interior is camel. I think the camel color is really sharp when it’s fresh and new looking. Just look at the black Camino’s interior-it’s sharp!

    Yeah 4 hundred dollars on Lutty's Chevy Warehouse but if you want to do the hood it would be worth buying like i said it would increase your value when you go to sell. or just leave the stock hood the way it is.

    • @clunkersandclassics
      @clunkersandclassics  ปีที่แล้ว

      $499 plus truck freight shipping which I can't get a quote from them but that's usually $300. Yeah, too much to spend, money I couldn't recoup when selling.
