It will take me years to implement and integrate everything I’ve been learning from these videos…BUT…..you give me the fundemental understandings of of lot of things that were previously either “foggy” or “unclear”. INCREDIBLE! Thank You Chris!!!!!
Thanks Dave! I would also remind us all that everything worth attaining takes time, focus, and effort. I'm still uncovering things as new to this day. Thanks for being here, viewing, liking etc!
I usually watch the intro several times just to listen. Chris, you're a great writer. Then the pick apart lessons are so nice to grab some understanding.
Why is that sound so pleasing? warm, peaceful, fond, when compared to other intervals. I also like how the Beatles used it in the opening to "Two of us" thanks Chris -James
Nice lesson friend... I been using this info that sound much better to my ears over major chords.. I can see how it works in minor progresssions as well... It just doesn't hit my ear as well.... Most will not lock down on this lesson but those that do will thank you for the rest of their playing days... Harmonized 3rd or inverted harmonized 6ths are the safest sweetest use of two and three string chards to stay out of the way and still add to the music I know of in contemporary music
I've been watching since the day marty mentioned your channel. By far my favorite lesson. I already new most of this. They way you laid it out made it stick. Its in my hands now. Thanks Chris
I hear 6ths played in so many songs. You started the video with Brown Eyed Girl which is one of my favorites. This make so much sense. Thanks for making the connection to inverted 3rd Chris!
man, a BIG click went off in my head when you showed the 6th shapes and related to wo the 'a' shaped bar chords. Learning a lot from your channel. thank you!
Ooh something new for me to investigate & play with! Just finished my evening meal & am now off to fetch my guitar & try these out. Thanks for sharing, Chris! :)
Thanks for the great lesson! I had watched a good lesson on 6ths from another site, but they only provided a linear example in one key. So, I wasn't sure how to identify all the shapes in other keys. Your lesson really provided what I needed in order to use these in every key.
Great lesson and explanation of 6ths. It's not too much information :-). I was still confused about the difference of 3rd's vs. 6ths. But when you said 6ths are an inversion of 3rd's, BINGO. Now I get it. Thanks for another great lesson!!
Ecelent...I'm trying hard not to include too much info that would cloud the main point. But here's a tip for your interval inversion adventures.... Every interval inverts to it's opposite interval, so 1-8, 2-7, 3-6, 4-5 etc...and they all add up to 9 :)
It’s surprisingly complex because there are different ways to visualize it: for example the A chord root A string could also be viewed as an A chord, then D chord (C shape) A (E shape) or E chord (C shape) so on and so forth. Rarely do I think of it as a minor chord cause it breaks my brain.
Great!! as per usual!!! I'd love to know your theory or breakdown of turn-arounds..., It's one of the things I seem to always kind of "wing'" ..I've never found a good theory lesson on their functionality and application. Thanks you!
That’s ironic, I’ve been messing with 6ths the last few days, taking them around the cycle. They’re special, especially minor 6ths. Why would you want to use a 6th chord? If that’s the sound you want, simple as that. They’re cool with some incredibly odd positions.
I guess I got a little confused when you went 6 intervals from C# to A (on the high E string) as I would consider that A note to be in the chord. Made sense when you went 6 intervals from E to B (since B does not appear in the chord).
@@curiousguitarist well, Chris, I am a bit of dullard so I will have to think harder about this. :) thanks for all you do. Love the content and your personal style and teaching style even more so.
Can I use this without Van in my name? Thanks for the lesson, I needed something new to finger as I was noodling too much last night. I immediately thought of "Sleep" by Phish.
Mister Sherland thanks for this tutorial however I am confused.........you say that c sharp is the sixth interval of A major but surely that's the 3rd...........can you please explain as I really want to learn these

Happy to hear that Franco, thanks and you are most welcome!

I love them too James...so sweet and mellow. The 6th, just down for chillin'!
Thank you so much for your very clear instruction.

Added significantly to what I knew... great job Chris. That's what it's all about.
Hey Chris, there you go again.
Another Jewel of a lesson.
Can no longer claim I'm self taught. Being taught by the very best :) ...

Every interval inverts to it's opposite interval, so 1-8, 2-7, 3-6, 4-5 etc...and they all add up to 9 :)
@@curiousguitarist Well that's a little spooky. "Number 9, Number 9, Number 9" :-)
Wow Chris. Thanks
You bet!
Beautiful opening ❤️
Thanks Dean! I wrote that after a terrible break up, so there was real melancholy material to use :)
Wonderful! Inverted 3rds ! Got it
Cool eh? Each interval inverts to it's "opposite" and the two always add up to 9 :)
@@curiousguitarist oh man I love 9s !! 9 math is mind blowing

On a smaller level, a 6th is also the top and bottom strings in diatonic triads (that make up the barre chord).
Yup! The diatonic 6th happens twice in that shape.
Good one! Thx

Great suggestion, I did a video on the ii-v-1 on the channel, but not on general turnarounds. Thanks tone!
@@curiousguitarist That would be Awesome!
Sir firstly i love your knowledge why the people not make bunch of like idk.

6ths within the diatonic progression just seem to never stop being amazing to me. Thanks Mark!
I guess I got a little confused when you went 6 intervals from C# to A (on the high E string) as I would consider that A note to be in the chord. Made sense when you went 6 intervals from E to B (since B does not appear in the chord).
6ths are inverted 3rds, that's why the first one includes a chord tone :)

@@curiousguitarist That's what I'm thinking. Haha.
I translate these video lessons to Baritone Ukulele.

DONE! Thanks for that Aritra!
Mister Sherland thanks for this tutorial however I am confused.........you say that c sharp is the sixth interval of A major but surely that's the 3rd...........can you please explain as I really want to learn these
6ths and 3rds are inverted intervals...in the key of A for example:
A - C# = 3
C# =A = 6
Let’s not forget Soul Man’s 6th’s
OF COURSE!!! DOH! I should'a included that one!
😊
At 6:21... do you mean A and D strings?... not G and D?
Yup, good catch! Thanks!
:)
I had a feeling you'd like this one Melody :)
@@curiousguitarist It's nice to see it played, part of it anyway :)
Lucky me. 1st comment. 😍🙏
