I know this comment is two years late but I thought I’d give it a shot anyway. Thank you so much for painting this aircraft in the scheme you did! My dad was stationed at Mansfield right before they got their C 27‘s! I remember watching these planes takeoff! I was so psyched when I saw that you painted up in the Ohio air guard paint scheme! I was totally geeking out watching this video! Thank you again!
Outstanding work as always. I really love to see your transformations of these models. In every single case, they are massively better than the stock setup.
1000% improvement Chris! You are the master of ARF transformations. You need to go, with Brent , to St, George this year! Best backdrop to fly any plane in.
Thanks! He’s been trying to get me to go, but timing hasn’t really worked out the last couple years. I’ve been eyeing an event in Texas in the fall this year, we’ll see though.
Great job bro!!! I done mine in Olive green, used Army decals. Add gun on side to make a gunship. I use a sharpie to die LED covers, put paratroopers in bay. Thanks for sharing 👍🏻✌🏻🖖🏻
Oh yes, I like this a lot. I never cared for the orange color. The tech notes are very helpful. I have some paint schemes in mind as well. I think you should send a picture of it to Horizon and get a commission when they change it! You know they'll double sales. AirHammer out!!
Thanks! Yeah, I need to pick up some parachute guys. Although, we have had so much fun driving the mini tank out the back during touch and goes, haha! Did that with some kids a while back and they were having a blast.
That was a brilliant paint job Chris. Not sure we can get that can paint in the UK, but defiantly thinking if spraying one of my planes. Great video. 👍🏻
Yeah, epo is both good and bad imo. I just wish paint would stick to it better mostly and it would swell in direct sunlight. It’s amazing how resilient it is to solvents. It’s pretty incredible!
I did this with my 2nd Sonic Binary. I got Callie Graphics to make some Low Visibility Stars & Bars and U.S. Air Force decals. I really like the look. Doesn’t look as good as yours, but it’s better than the plain white look.
Great job Chris, I want to use this technique to do a E-Flite 1.5 P-51 in Military scheme. I have already used this technique on some hanger rash on the Cub. Keep up the great videos!
The "Black Leading Edges" on the full size are not paint but black rubber De-icing panels or Boots that expand during flight to knock the ice build up off.
Weight gain wasn’t much, but I couldn’t tell you exactly. Generally I find that the foam aircraft are so lightly loaded, that they tend to fly better with a little additional weight to them.
Great video. The paint lifting up - did it need cleaning of mould release or some kind of prep on the foam before the primer etc? Just wondering as thinking of painting eflite turbo timber and love to know any tips you might have to try and avoid the peeling issue. Thanks 👍
Thanks! The issue is that unprepared epo foam is kind of oily which makes paint adhesion challenging. So, I’d recommend rubbing the airframe down with acetone , scuffing it down with a scotchbrite pad and then applying a good primer down before painting.
looks amazing so many possibilities great bonding project also have you ever used aluminum foil for masking its great for complex curves keep up the great videos hope all is well with you and your family Take Care
Thanks man!! We’re hanging in there. I use foil tape for detailing and such, but not for masking. Truthfully, there are better products for that as the foil tape tends to stick pretty hard to the surface which puts your finish at risk. I really like using 3m fine line tape to get super crisp paint lines. Not an option on this one based on the adhesion problems.
Hi Chris. Enjoyed this video. What clear gloss did you use. My flying field is also used by lots of sheep so my planes need to be wipeable. Is acrylic gloss ok or is a polyurethane better and will it make the room marbling worse.
Thank you! I used the rustoleum 2x clear gloss. Worked really well. Most any spray clear should work. This was the first time I’d used the rustoleum clears and I was pleasantly surprised by them.
I'm getting ready to turn the eflite air tractor into an at802 longsword (pretty much the same grey you used). After removing the decals, the epo still looks pretty sealed. How necessary is the polycrilic at this point?
It’s probably not necessary. I used it on this one to try and help get the paint to adhere to the bare foam a little better. It didn’t really work, haha!
The issue is the untreated epo foam underneath. Scuffing it up a bit helps before applying the poly. The rust oleum is a good option but my go to for primer these days is dupli color filler primer.
Hi Chris, Looks fantastic! Did you print all of your decals or did some come from Callie Graphics? If they came from Callie Graphics, what scale does this plane take? Thank You!
@@Thercgeek thank you for the response! Merry Christmas and thank you for all of the great videos! I’ve been using some of your techniques and having great success! Cheers!
Totally unrelated question. I am looking to get back into the hobby, and see a used DX18 online for sale, and noted that you still use one. Is it outdated and not worth buying ????
