Soul gem and desolation are good, as long as you get a decent amount of cooldown reduction, it’s not the end of the world whether you go for 1 item or another. But both will offer different things. For example going for soul gem and desolation will sacrifice heavily on percent penetration and power for some sustain, and flat pen. But yes mage builds vary very heavely. Hope that makes sense ♥️
