In short, by 1978, from a few sources, I was under the impression Joe Morello had stopped playing, had lost his chops, and was very much a recluse.
When I had the chance to interview him on March 7, 1978 I asked him. This excerpt is Joe's reply.

i saw a few of very later in life Clinics.He Barely could make it to the kit by Himself..But once he sat down..Good Lord fiyah information and Just sheer elegance!
