As a fellow Irishman, I salute James as a great spinner of yarns and of prodigious practical intellect. However, that "sub" never went anywhere underwater with a hatch like that. Fair play to the man for getting both the BBC and RTÉ to come to film his hijinks!
And when the Reporter spotted some Tanks and interesting looking Rockets,'Yer Man'he would have said this is for my nxt project .Designing and Building a New Rocketship to break through the Stratosphere! And the BBC Reporter would have bought it 'Hook, line and sinker! ( But while failing to hear how the testing would take place oop North!
I can actually recall watching this when it was broadcast. I was mortified that people from another country would see this. I was thinking at the time 'no wonder the English make Irish jokes when they see the likes of this'. Even now I still get that cringe watching it. It's amazing how far we have come as a country in the space of a couple of generations.

@@SoCalSoNice ah right so basically zero connection to Ireland. 1/4 of your descendants lived on Ireland for a part of their life and spent the rest in america.
Never been to Ireland and thinks it's looks like something out of the "The Quiet Man" with happy drunks, strong-willed Colleen's and fatherly priests. Rather than the poverty-stricken backward church-run 3rd world country it was right up until the 90s
Priceless- having spent many a happy year fishing, swimming and drinking with wonderful folks just like these. Alot of the faces and characters now gone and sorely missed. The inventor of the modern submarine John Holland was an Irish American who designed his submarine with the thought of using them to sink british ships and help to further Irish independence.
Your taking this far to seriously,of course he's a liar,if that sub had submerged James would have died, the hatch isn't waterproof, you can see that when it's removed, possibly you know nothing about real submarines?

Sure the BBC were only delighted to document and broadcast this type of thing. De-lighted.

it's a laugh but innit!😊
It would look a lot better with a lick of paint and it would go faster through the water as it creates less resistance
I used to love nationwide when they had bits like this on,
I firmly belive it could go down to the bottom of the lake. Getting it to resurface would be the issue.
I'm so jealous of that community! That level of freedom is truly priceless.
This would make for a very good "Father Ted" episode :)
haha

The real embarrassment is the fact the english believed it.
You realise the locals were taking the piss out of the bbc reporter?
The Blarney of this man is legendary

You didn't if you run around a mine or steelworks? And could not afford a dr !
Life expectancy has continued to rise across the world. Your interpretation is just wrong.

Very Millegan esq, Im sorry but this has given me a very smile.
So this is why the Royal Navy employ old men in rowing boats.....to tow the submarines out to sea. Of course, why didn't I think of that before??!!
He’s a good laugh 😂
Was that bob wellings doing the interviewing?
Indeed it was.
He is taking the Mic.
It had to be yellow didn't it.

The inventor of the modern submarine John Holland was an Irish American who designed his submarine with the thought of using them to sink british ships and help to further Irish independence.
Shame that isn't true. John Holland was an inventor from Ireland in America, but he sold his designs to America and Britain.
The irony of it!
Why are you telling people he's Irish American? He's just Irish, thanks.
Coincidentally John Holland was from co. clare also.
Beatles inspired bit of blarney . As he said "it's a bit too small ." Only designed for the " little people ! " 👯
"oil barrels?" "Isle barrels."
The thumbnail looks like Chris Penn.
The second sub with the name Finian Ram. The first has a darker history...
Hey, have you heard the one about the Irishman who made a submarine out of oil barrels?
this was the Irish Fleet at its zenith🛀
relax, my ancestry is Irish
Batteries you say? 😜
Did he ever make it to the bottom of the lake?
No.
Yes and he's still there.
Every Gypsy I’ve ever heard talk must’ve come from County Clare
I thought Irish submarines were filled with water and designed to fly?
Captain Nemo he isn't.
PUTIN WOULD BE ENVIOUS...!!!!!!
Fernando Alonso
It's a brick.
Ahahahaha🤣
BUT!!!!
You can't show this now, it's not p.c!!!!
This was edited by the producer to make him look like a fool and a liar.

And you wonder why no major inventions came from Ireland 🤣i think Charles babbage and frank whittle are safe 🤣
