I have never had the pleasure to see Tommy live but there's nothing on TH-cam of him I haven't seen. All his collaborations and his kindness to all his admirers. This man is without a doubt one of the finest guitar players to have ever lived in any time. A true student of the instrument. I have played guitar since I was 5 years old and although I don't consider myself a professional guitar player by any means I can play a lot of different styles. I've been asked by many friends over the years why I don't play professionally. It's simple just like a prize athlete you have to know your limitations. Trust me when I say this man has no limitations. I've watched him improvise and work his way through some very complex impromptu situations with other artists. I grew up with Chet, Merle and Reed. Over the years I've enjoyed everyone from SRV to Johnny Smith. Bought dozens of guitars to emulate their sound. Hats off to this gentleman. In my humble and honest opinion the best there is.
Thank you Andy, and thanks for the comment, interviewing is not my expertise but when it comes to talking with someone as great as TE - I had to do it!
I'm soooooo pissed .. Toronto boy born and raised , seen 100s of shows at Massey ( my absolute fav venue btw ) How the F did I not know about a Tommy visit , how did I manage to miss this one 😢😢😢... Great interview , Tommy is always awesome..
He'll be back soon 😀😀😀 , I'm gonna hold you to that one lol... Tommy is one of those performers I'm not even sure is real ( my theory is , he's an A.I. lol ). I can't prove that , but I'm close. Glad you enjoyed the show , I'm sure it was as cool as your conversation. Cheers from Scarb.
That was an excellent interview Dave great work!!! Tommy said so many inspiring things ( to me). His music being a roar to a whisper speaks to his amazing use of dynamics when he plays in a performance setting he makes it all very exciting. His comment about being entertaining again so insightful!............If you want a big crowd make a big sound. I loved the whole discussion about melody...poetry on the melody is an epiphany with respect to instrumental music. I often hear lyrics in my head and feel the emotion so now I know Im not crazy🤪.......great listen thank you and great work Paul Reid!
interesting statement from tommy about what is heard at front of house is very important to him...i totally agree!! presentation of quality can really make an amazing performance
Very interesting. The part when Tommy talked about the music itself being an expression of poetry. That’s what you brilliant artists do. It’s a unique expression. Many thanks, David - Howard
Dazzling. Pure guitar Joy. And Goodness. And I appreciate the Articulation of his Vision of the sound and his performance. So savvy about the Gear, all through his career. The interviewer unfortunately keeps interrupting the amazing points he's attempting to develop to stroke his own storied career, and again, TE's interpretation of the scene he's the pinnacle of is so interesting, e.g. the difference between likes on social media and successful touring. Fascinating person as well as the Best acoustic guitarist on the planet. "You can't beat the melody", I liked that quote.
What an incredible joy it must be to conduct an interview with an absolute master of his craft. Maestro Emmanuel is a world treasure.
